Produced between 1989 and 1991 as a sport-focused version of Porsche’s flagship 928 S4 grand tourer, the 928 GT featured increased power as well as a standard 5-speed manual transaxle paired with a variable PSD limited-slip differential. This 1990 example is one of only several hundred 928 GTs delivered to North America and comes finished in Black over a matching leather interior. After spending time in Florida, California, and Illinois, the car was purchased by the seller in 2021 who oversaw major services including replacements of the timing and drive belts, water pump, camshaft seals, tensioner assembly, and more. This rare 928 GT is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Alabama with approximately 88k miles showing on the odometer.

This 928 GT is finished in Black (L700) and features an optional rear model designation delete, body-colored side moldings, and an electric sunroof. Standard equipment includes pop-up headlights, integrated fog lights, dual exhaust tips, a rear wing, a rear window wiper, and a roof-mounted antenna. The car rides on factory 16” Design 90 alloy wheels mounted with Fuzion ZR1 tires. The seller describes the exterior to be in excellent overall condition apart from a small paint bubble near a rear window. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The black interior features four seats in optional supple leather upholstery with matching carpets and headliner. Accessories include power-adjustable front seats, power windows and mirrors, cruise control, automatic climate control, optional increased rear-seat air conditioning, a four-spoke leather steering wheel, a digital trip computer, an analog quartz clock, a heated rear window, a central locking system, and an aftermarket Pioneer head unit. The seller notes the air conditioning has been converted to R134a and was recharged within the last 200 miles.

Producing up to 326 HP and 317 lb.-ft of torque, the 5.0-liter DOHC V8 engine in the 928 GT was specially tuned from the factory with a modified control unit and a more aggressive camshaft layout with altered timing profiles. The GT was also offered as standard with a 5-speed manual transaxle and a variable PSD limited-slip differential. The seller notes that service in 2021 included replacements of the timing and drive belts, tensioner assembly, water pump, camshaft seals, crankshaft seal, a coolant flush, and new rear hatch struts.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a spare tire, a battery charger, service records, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “The 928 GT was the lowest production number of all 928s with only 2078 built for the worldwide market. Out of those only a few hundred made it into the United States. Out of that few hundred, many to almost all are not in the condition of this one. This is truly a wonderful and fun car to own, but an amazing investment as this car is becoming very collectible. There simply are not many if any left in this condition. Decided it is time to sell my 928GT. Mine is black on black and beautiful. Everything works and probably has the coldest AC I have ever felt. It has a R-134a conversion. Replaced the compressor about 6 months ago. The 928 had two maintenance requirements that had to be done, the timing belt and engine/transmission mounts. I have done both and have not even put 200 miles on it since having the timing belt and engine/transmission mounts done. This car needs nothing and is ready to have fun with. The 5.0 32-valve V8 is amazing, and it starts right up. No smoke or oil burning, and the oil pressure is fantastic. It shifts like butter and is just a joy to drive. The interior is black and the seats, dash, and everything look amazing. No tears, fading, or cracks anywhere. I also have a certificate of authenticity from Porsche on it and every service record from when it was built till now. This is probably the best documented 928 in existence and all the records come in a nice binder. Numbers matching, original paint, and just outstanding. Always garaged. This might be the most documented 928 ever. I have every service record from the day it was purchased plus a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. I occasionally take it to Cars and Coffee, park it amongst 30 911's and it gets more attention than all the 911's.”

@914-FAN No leaks in the sunroof and it works fine. No idea on the bubble, it was there when I bought it 3 years ago. It is very hard to see and has not gotten any worse, so i have not worried about it. Thanks!

  • 914-FAN 1 month, 2 weeksago

Have you had a leaky sunroof? A headliner screw in your pic has a rusty surface. Just wondering where / how the bubble developed.
    Thank you, 928 fan!!

  • Iznod (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@914-FAN It is on the outside

  • 914-FAN 1 month, 2 weeksago

@Iznod Is that on the outside? A pic a little further back may make not look so nasty. Hard to decipher walking up to it for a look.

  • Iznod (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@914-FAN It is on the passenger side about half way down the triangular rear window right next to the window rubber trim. Thanks! John

  • 914-FAN 1 month, 2 weeksago

@Iznod Where on the exterior is the small rust paint bubble? Is it above the fuel door at the r-side window? Pic 137
    Thanks.

Yes, it’s automatic. You could test it by lowering the pressure of one tire to 30 Or lower psi. It’s easy to disable by jumping the two terminals on the tpms wiring harness. Most are not functional because failure is usually the sensors in each wheel which there are 2 in each total of 8 which cost $500 each. To most cost prohibitive.

  • Iznod (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@buccicone I could not find a button to activate it, seems it is automatic. When a tire is low it just tells you

I added a picture of the rough area in the paint. I put a nickle next to is for sixe calrification. It is pic 137. You actually have to look hard to find it.

@needanothercar I am goint by my warehouse where i store my Porsches and will check tire code. Not sure how to get pics of the rough are of painr in here. If it is not against the rules, I could text, email or put a pic in a dropbox file sharing site. Please let me know. Thanks! John

What a beauty of a 928 GT. I haven’t seen this car in person, but simply wanted to comment on the auction presentation. Bravo for presenting the car in such a clean, tidy state, and best of luck with the auction!

  • Iznod (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@buccicone If it has it, I assume it works. I have not messed with the onboard computer systems much.. Car is in an warehouse with my other Porsches (and my Lotus), I can run by there and check this moring. Thanks! John

  • buccicone (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Does the tire pressure monitoring system function or is it disabled?

  • Iznod (seller) 1 month, 2 weeksago

@needanothercar Not sure on the tires, but can check tomorrow. I tried to upload the paint issue. Not resally a bubbly, more of a rought spot about the size of a nickle. I will try and upload again. Thanks! John

@Crumbs The video posted is a cold start, been about a week since I had fired her up. Oil pressure cold is pegged at 5 bar. When warmed and runnng, between 2 bar and 5 bar depending on RPM's. t does not blow smoke at all and exhuast tips are clean. On pic 122, that might be a brake line, could also be the parking brake. Looks like the fitting that holds the line has a rubber gromet in it that has deteriorated some allowing the copper to come into contact with the metal fitting creating some surface oxidation. Seems to get less the farther away from the fitting you go. The car is 34 years old and in great condition, but I am sure some small issues may be present, but overall, she is solid. I am 54 years old and wish I was in the condition of the car! lol

  • Crumbs (registered bidder) 1 month, 2 weeksago

Any cold start video or view of oil pressure?

picture 122, the green oxidation, does that mean the line is starting to fail? I've seen this on other cars too and always wondered. Think that is the brake line.

  • Iznod (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

@PORCOR I uploaded 2 pics of it with a nickle next to it so you can see the size. Thanks!

  • Iznod (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Not that I can tell. I took a close up of all 4 tweeters and will be posting them.

  • jmorin (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

@Iznod Sorry, I was referring to the foam surrounds. There is of course no foam in the tweeter. What is the condition of the foam in the other 3 mids (driver door, rear hatch area) and 2 woofers (in the b-pillar)? Are they all deteriorated? Thanks.

  • Iznod (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

@jmorin The tweeter is not missing in pic 62 and there is no foam visible. Perhaps a different pic? But all tweeters are there

  • jmorin (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

@Iznod Pic 62 shows the speaker foam is deteriorated/missing in the passenger side door mid and tweeter. Is it safe to assume all the speakers are this way? Pretty common issue on Porsches this old...

  • Iznod (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

@Iznod It is about the size of a dime, located on the drivers side rear quarter panel right against the rear window.

  • Iznod (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Sure, it will be later today as I am all tied up this morning.

  • PORCOR (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Nice car! Can we see a picture of the described paint bubble?
