One of 158 Targa versions produced for the U.S. during the model year, this 1990 Porsche 964 comes finished in Grand Prix White and equipped with a 5-speed G50 manual transmission. The car was modified by Patrick Motorsports under prior ownership with a rebuilt and blueprinted 3.8-liter flat-six engine as well as Bilstein PSS10 coilovers, 993 Turbo front brakes, OEM Turbo fender flares, Carrera RS exterior trim, Speedline-style wheels, a dual exhaust system, and a custom interior featuring Recaro Pole Position bucket seats with tartan inserts. Having been registered in California most of its life, this 964 was acquired by the seller out of Arizona in April 2023 and has been driven approximately 8k miles since the engine rebuild. Accompanied by build invoices totaling over $111k, this custom 3.8-powered 964 Targa is now being offered for auction out of Florida.

This 964 is finished in Grand Prix White and features OEM Turbo fender flares along with Carrera RS aero mirrors, front brake ducts, and a rear bumper with dual exhaust outlets. Other equipment includes a black Targa band, a removable roof panel, a speed-activated rear spoiler, polished dual exhaust tips, new H4 headlights, yellow-painted brake calipers, and 18” Speedline-style three-piece wheels. The car rides on a set of Continental ExtremeContact tires that were mounted approximately 4k miles ago. The seller notes two small rock chips are present on the hood as well as a very small chip on the windshield and some signs of road-going wear on the fenders. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a damage-free CARFAX report.

The black interior has been completely redone including lightweight RS door panels with yellow stitching and Recaro Pole Position bucket seats with black and white tartan inserts. Other accessories include matching tartan rear seat inserts, yellow seatbelts, aluminum Rennline pedal covers, a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, white instrument dials, CarBone houndstooth luggage compartment lining, and a custom stereo system featuring a new Kenwood Bluetooth head unit, Hertz speakers, and a 1000-watt amplifier. The seller reports all gauges and accessories to be fully functional, although the airbag warning light is present as a result of the aftermarket seats.

The 3.6-liter flat-six engine has been rebuilt, blueprinted, and enlarged to a 3.8-liter displacement including 11.4:1 Mahle pistons and cylinders, RS cams, lightweight Pauter rods, custom stainless steel headers, a high-flow muffler, a lightweight RS/RSR single-mass flywheel, and a three-angle valve job. Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a completely rebuilt 5-speed G50 manual gearbox with an upgraded RS/RSR 240mm clutch. The car has also been fitted with upgraded Bilstein PSS10 coilovers and 993 Turbo front brakes. The seller notes approximately 8k miles have been covered since the engine rebuild and service under their ownership has included an oil change, installation of a new battery, and conversion of the A/C system to R134a refrigerant. Invoices from Patrick Motorsports are included with the sale and images of the engine build are provided in the gallery.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, service records, a spare tire, a car cover, a battery charger, and a clean title. The CARFAX report shows a mileage discrepancy, although the seller confirms that a clean Florida title with "actual mileage" is included.

The seller would like you to know: “This 1990 "Widebody" Targa is truly a one-of-a-kind. With only 8,500 miles since the rebuild, it drives like a brand-new car. Financial hardship requires sale, or this car would never leave my garage.”

to duplicate this restomod build is probably way more than double the current bid and seems like the owner is highly motivated to sell. If i didn't have 4 P cars now (964 Cup USA, Cayman S Deman 4.0, 997.2 Turbo Cab, C4S) i will bid. Such a nice car to have!

@4lo You’re correct, the front wheels rub the fender lining slightly at full lock.
I looked into solving but to correct it means removing the spacers and narrowing the stance. Looked terrible so I decided against it.

  • 4lo (registered bidder) 5 monthsago

Love this build and believe I've seen the car come up a couple times in the past few years. Do the front wheels rub at full lock/turn? If I recall that was noted previously and was curious if it was resolved or still occurs? Thanks and look forward to bidding tomorrow.

  • Gimbel30 (seller) 5 monthsago

@Jhochwalt I"m 6'2 and have no issues at all but the seats are all the way back. At 6'5, I'd say it could be cramped. I know my independent mechanic said that the rails could be lowered and extended. He quoted me at 475.00 to do both.

  • Jhochwalt (registered bidder) 5 monthsago

How are 964's for tall drivers 6'5? Guessing the rails aren't as long as the 993 and the Targa Top would be too low. Thanks in advance.

Great car if it can be had at a reasonable price. This car was RNM on BAT in 2022… bid to $100k. Patrick Motorsports does a great job with their restorations.

  • Gimbel30 (seller) 5 monthsago

Hi everyone, I just uploaded 31 pages of invoices that covers many many items not mentioned in the description. Patrick Motor Sports builds great cars and are highly respected in the Porsche community.

@burnrubr Thank you for the kind words!!! This car is my favorite Porsche I've owned. Truly a "one of a kind build". If I wasn't forced to sell, it would never leave my garage.

  • burnrubr (registered bidder) 5 monthsago

you won't see this example for sale very often so if you have the means just grab her already! Got Patrick's name on it and that interior is so cool!

  • Gimbel30 (seller) 5 monthsago

@38ZFX Probably wasn’t a good idea to record with the top off.

  • Gimbel30 (seller) 5 monthsago

@38ZFX Ummm. Car was given the “once over” at Porsche Jax before listing. No mention of any issues whatsoever.

  • 38ZFX (registered bidder) 5 monthsago

    @Gimbel30
Sounds like the valve train is a bit noisy or maybe it’s just a bad clip?

@GreenTeamAuto I am unaware of any structural issues with this top as the previous owner never mentioned any.
When I purchased the car I folded the top once (to make sure it worked as intended) and it worked perfectly. That said, I've been told that folding the top is not a good thing and I haven't done it since. I never drive the car when the weather isn't perfect, so I just leave it at home. But yes, the top will fold and fit in the frunk!!

  • GreenTeamAuto (registered bidder) 5 months, 1 weekago

@Gimbel30 have the structural issues with the targa top been repaired? Can it fold up and fit into the Frunk?

@GreenTeamAuto I’ll take the requested photos tomorrow and send.

  • GreenTeamAuto (registered bidder) 5 months, 1 weekago

Apologies, I see those now at the end of the photo list. All good on paint pics. Would love to see top and bottom of the Targa as well as it fitted on the car.

  • Gimbel30 (seller) 5 months, 1 weekago

@GreenTeamAuto I'll take a few pictures of the top tomorrow and post. The top is in very good condition and fits snug with no leaks etc.
The seats are on a slider and adjust forward to allow rear seat access.
There are a couple of pictures of the rock chips on the hood already posted. Are you asking for even closer photos?

  • GreenTeamAuto (registered bidder) 5 months, 1 weekago

@seller, such a beautiful spec. If memory serves correctly, I remember seeing this on another auction site a couple years back. I have a few questions, mostly relating to usability.
    - Do you have photos of the Targa top? Does it fit securely? (none of the pics seem to include the top)
    - Do the front seats move forward to allow access to the rear seats?
    - Can you please provide close-ups of the front rock chips ?

@Tmoneyrunner I don't have a "dyno" reading but Patrick MotorSports says approximately 300. My true opinion is that it's more than a stock engine and something less than 300. The car has the usual 964 average torque at low RPM's but really really comes to life between 4500 and 6500 RPM. Also the exhaust note totally changes in the upper register !!

  • Tmoneyrunner (registered bidder) 5 months, 1 weekago

Now that's a looker! Beautifully crafted and engineered. Engine sounds strong and ready for some nice road trips. Any idea on the new horsepower after the engine rebuild? Thanks

  • Gimbel30 (seller) 5 months, 1 weekago

Hello potential bidders!! I'm excited to offer my 964 for your consideration. Please feel free to ask questions and I'll do my best to respond just as quickly as possible. I truly love this car and I know you will too. Good luck.
