The Volkswagen Type 2 T3 represents the third generation of Volkswagen vans which were produced in Hannover, Germany from 1979 to 1991 before finishing production in Austria and South Africa. This 1990 Vanagon GL Westfalia was acquired by its seller in 2013 and is finished in Champagne over a grey cloth interior. It is said to have undergone extensive upgrades and modifications including solar panels, a cell booster and antenna, aftermarket wheels, new seat foam, a GPS speedometer, a rebuilt engine, a rebuilt transmission, new suspension components, an upgraded braking system, and much more. Reported to have been regularly maintained under their ownership and accompanied by a host of documentation, this Westfalia is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Oregon.

This Westfalia is finished in Flash Silver Metallic and features a pop-up camper roof and a 10’ awning. Features include solar panels, a cell booster antenna, a rear externally-mounted spare tire, and lower bed liner paint for added rock protection. It rides on black aftermarket 16” wheels dressed in Mazama Reputation Luxury Touring tires with 2018 date codes. The seller notes that there have been some minor paint touch-ups on the side of the van. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The interior is upholstered in its original grey cloth and the seat foam is reported to have been replaced within the last eight months. Features include power mirrors, power windows, power door locks, original curtains, front swiveling captain chairs, a fold-out sleeper bench, and a kitchenette. The upholstery is reported to show signs of aging along with wear at the base of the driver’s window. Interior upgrades include plugs for exterior lighting, a 120V inverter, LED tape lighting, a cell booster, a 2 DIN radio, a propane heater, and a fridge removal kit for more storage. A previous owner is reported to have removed the air conditioning unit. The seller notes a GPS speedometer was installed due to a failed odometer, which shows approximately 305k miles. All other gauges, electronics, and accessories such as the sink and stove are reported to be working properly.

This Westfalia is powered by its original flat-four-cylinder engine, which is reported to have been rebuilt in 2017 with a 2.2-liter displacement. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a rebuilt 4-speed manual transmission with normal gear ratios and posi-traction. Mechanical upgrades include a more robust shift lever, a new steering gear, larger diameter front brakes, a rear disc brake kit, a new brake master cylinder, a K&N air filter, an aluminum coolant expansion tank, a BlazeCut engine compartment fire suppression system, new springs, new shocks, and new suspension rubber. The seller notes that during their ownership they have performed oil changes every 2k-3k miles, tune-ups every 15k miles, air filter cleaning and re-oiling every 25k miles, and transmission oil changes every 60k miles. The seller notes that a coolant system flush is indicated in the next 10k miles. A list of upgrades provided by the seller is shown in the gallery.

This sale will include a clean title and spare tire.

The seller would like you to know: “This Van (Buckee) has been a joy to drive and camp in. I have done a ton of upgrades to him, both for comfort as well as safety. When not out camping it is kept in a parking garage where the temps never get below 45 degrees. When at work he was also in a covered garage. I have recently treated the fiberglass top and also used a quality wax on the body. Thank you for viewing my auction!”

You may notice the slight hesitation on the cold start video. Anyone familiar with the VW Digifant engine controls knows the equipment is next to impossible to find, so timing is adjusted with a hot engine, 2500 RPM and adjust timing to 35 degrees advance. This is further explained on the GoWesty web site library. Cold starts will have that slight hesitation, not the case on a warm start.

As the owner of Buckee, I have enjoyed owning this Van. The only reason for my selling is the lack of time camping. I feel is is a waste to only use this as a daily driver, not camp. In the past, I have found the van a comfortable, easy to park, joy to drive. I will answer any questions about work done.
