Introduced in 1989 as a performance-oriented version of the E30-generation BMW 3-Series Coupe, the 318is featured a new 1.8-liter M42 inline-four engine, a 5-speed manual transmission, front and rear spoilers, sport seats, and a sport-tuned suspension. This 1991 example is finished in Alpine White over a beige vinyl interior and is equipped with an optional limited-slip differential, a sunroof, anti-lock brakes, power windows, and a central locking system. It was acquired by the seller from their mechanic who reportedly purchased the car from its original owner. Benefitting from a recent engine overhaul, new suspension, and brakes, this 318is is now being offered for auction out of California with approximately 165k miles showing on the odometer.

The 318is model was exclusively available as a two-door coupe and has a unique front air dam and rear trunk lid spoiler. This example is finished in Alpine White and equipped with quad headlamps, integrated fog lights, power mirrors, a sunroof, a power antenna, a dual-tipped exhaust outlet, and 14” cross-spoke alloy wheels. The car rides on Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring A/S tires showing 2020 production date codes. Some cosmetic imperfections are noted around the exterior and the seller notes a hole in the roof was repaired and covered in primer. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

Appointed with beige vinyl upholstery and matching carpets, the cabin features adjustable front sport seats and a black leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel. Accessories include power windows, air conditioning, a central locking system, a rear window defroster, BMW-branded carpet floor mats, aftermarket pedal covers, and an aftermarket stereo. The seller notes a new dashboard has been installed and all electronics are fully functional.

Power comes from a 1.8-liter M42 inline-four DOHC engine with four valves per cylinder, hydraulic valve adjusters, and coil-on-plug ignition. Up to 134 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission with an optional limited-slip differential. Compared to a standard 318i Coupe, the 318is features a sport-tuned suspension with thicker anti-roll bars and stiffer shock absorbers. Braking is handled by four-wheel ventilated discs with ABS. The seller states an engine overhaul was recently completed along with replacements of the brakes and suspension components.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This is a great car in and out. Perfect for carving up canyons, or just grabbing your morning coffee. If you want the feel of a classic BMW but want something modern. The 318is with its fuel-injected engine is that perfect balance.”

I maybe blind too but do you have photo of the roof prior to repair? I assume it was a rust hole but please clarify. Also it looks like possible rust on lower front valance and nose of hood, can we get better hi def close up pics? Does it come with the center caps for the wheels and do you have the clock that is missing from the dash? Does AC blow cold, heater and complete climate system perform as it should, does sunroof work properly and do power windows and door locks work correctly? It has clearly been repainted at one time with over spray on the lower rockers that should be semi matte black. What is the condition of the paint overall?

@n_l To the best of my knowledge, the current Odometer reading is true. I will check with the DMV and previous owner. Trying to be totally transparent. Not trying to mislead anyone.

Do you have any information about the mileage inconsistency on the Carfax? Are we looking at a 175K mile car, or a 225K mile car? (although at these levels, does 50K miles really matter?)

Maybe I'm blind this morning, but I don't see any clear roof photos detailing the hole. Do you have any information about the cause or method of repair?
