Up for auction is this nicely configured 1991 Carrera 2 Coupe.  Offering classic styling coupled with a refined air-cooled driving experience, the 964 represents one of the most revered and desirable 911 models on the market.  This 1991 example was recently purchased from a longtime enthusiast and pathologist currently working on a non-profit app called Move Up that is centered around aiding patient transportation within the healthcare industry.  It was agreed that half of the proceeds of this sale will be donated towards his non-profit app.  Finished in White over a sensational Magenta interior, this show-stopping 964 displays 144,000 miles and is being offered for auction in honest driver’s-grade condition by a dealer in Houston Texas.

The classic Alpine White finish on this 964 shows generally well, exhibiting only minor signs of age appropriate wear.  The seller indicates that there are no obvious signs of a respray, however due to the extremely clean nature of the front hood, believes it may have been resprayed at some point.  Some minor flaws are present including touch-up paint on the rear bumper and general patina/fading.  This 964 rolls on freshly powder coated factory wheels and has been fitted with the updated aero mirrors found on later 964's and 993 models.

Inside, this 964 is appointed in an exotic Magenta leather interior; a rare configuration that really brings life into this car and sets it apart from others on the road.  The interior is in all around good shape, exhibiting typical wear while remaining free of any major flaws or damages.  Modifications include a Momo steering wheel, aftermarket pedals and a Kenwood head unit.  The seller confirms that this interior is complete with fully functional accessories and electronics.  They also note that the original steering wheel will be included in sale.

This 964 is equipped with the venerable 3.6L M64 flat-six engine producing 250HP and 228 ft-lb of torque.  Power is sent to the rear wheel via a smooth 5-speed manual transmission.  An upgraded Fister sport exhaust has been installed, freeing up some horsepower while making for a lovely exhaust note.  This car has undergone a recent service including a valve adjustment as well as fluid and filter changes, spark plug replacement, brake fluid flush, and drive belt replacement.  A copy of all work performed is included in the photo gallery.  Upon preparation for sale, compression and leak down tests were performed and the measurements more than satisfactory.  With its solid internals, this agile rear-wheel drive coupe is said to drive beautifully and stands ready to clock another 100k miles.

According to Carfax, a mileage discrepancy is reported just this year.  The seller states that the previous owner noted that the odometer stopped working after pressing the reset trip button while moving.  It has been professionally repaired and is operating correctly.  Upon glancing at the Carfax report, you will see consistent mileage readings and should be assured that the current mileage on the odometer is fairly accurate.  Included in the sale of this solid Carrera 2 will be three keys, one valet key and some recent maintenance records.  Also included will be a clean Carfax report confirming this as an accident free, 3-owner vehicle.  As previously mentioned, half of all proceeds from this auction will benefit the previous owner’s non-profit app Move Up that aims to improve patient transportation within the healthcare industry.  This unique 964 looks truly spectacular on the road and with a clean bill of health.

    @DrivenTexas Thanks very much.

  • DrivenTexas (seller) 4 years, 6 monthsago

@rsabeebe Leakdown was between 10-15% across the board. Compression is as follows:
    C1 - 192
    C2 - 190
    C3 - 195
    C4 - 192
    C5 - 186
    C6 - 193

Just one more question. I see the receipt that includes the leak down test, but I do not see the results in the paperwork. Possible to show the leak down results? Would be very helpful at this mileage. Thanks!

@rsabeebe Ill try to answer your questions as best I can.

There are no dents or door dings, just rock chips. I have highlighted the major ones. Please keep in mind this not a perfect exterior. It is an old car that has been enjoyed. Plenty of good patina.

The ding on the A pillar is a ding with touch up paint on top. I am not sure what the smudge is, my best guess is an attempt to clear coat over the touch up that got a bit dirty. It does not wipe off with a rag, but I imagine anyone with a buffer and some polish could take it out.

The front seats do not have gray piping. The interior is magenta throughout.

I do not have a COA. The documentation that shows the color codes is the original sticker under the hood. It is photographed.

The interior has never been re-dyed or anything like that. It is typical discoloration from years and years of use and sitting in the sun. I like to call it interior patina. The car is nearly 30 years old. The shifter is in fact dark from years of absorbing oils from the driver's hands. Very typical on any high mile aircooled.

There is absolutely no rust anywhere.

The connector hanging below the dash is a tail for a trickle charger. Its nice to have in the interior so you don't have to leave your hood popped when keeping it charged up.

    Hope that helps!

Just a few more questions before the auction gets close to the end. I see a handful of chips and cracks highlighted in the gallery. Are there any additional chips, dents, dings in the body that might not be highlighted? Are the doors and fenders free of door dings? The picture of the roof by the A-pillar - the black smudge that is being pictured - is this in the paint? Is this something that can not be cleaned or corrected in the paint? Further explanation on that? The front seats appear to have gray piping. Is that accurate? Is there any documentation - COA - that shows this is the original color interior to the car? The front seats appear to be a bit darker than both the door panels and the rear seats. Have they possibly been redyed or likely just from use? The shift boot seems to have a similar darker appearance. Any rust apparent anywhere on the body or undercarriage? The connector/plug hanging below the dash on the passenger side - any thoughts on what that might be? Thanks!

@rsabeebe listened a few times to see if I can hear what you’re hearing. Ive been around Aircooled Porsche’s for years and years and it sounds like a normal healthy Aircooled with a raspy exhaust. They do tend to have a fairly mechanical sound if you will.

  • rsabeebe (registered bidder) 4 years, 6 monthsago

I have a question about the walk-around video. There is a constant ‘rattling’ sound, like think metal being hit, in the background. Can you explain what that might have been? The driving video sounds strong, so I’m thinking it might have been a background noise, but I’d like to confirm. Thanks.

@Chaskaporscheguy @Chaskaporcheguy in my experience it is not wise to share the reserve.

  • DrivenTexas (seller) 4 years, 6 monthsago

@mobileuniverse it does have center caps. They were getting powder coated while my photographer photoed the car. There are a few close ups of the center caps

  • DrivenTexas (seller) 4 years, 6 monthsago

@Flatironsautohaus Absolutely! Id be more than happy to drive the car over to a shop of your choice. Also, if you're not familiar with any shops here, I dont mind recommending a few.

  • Flatironsautohaus (registered bidder) 4 years, 6 monthsago

Can a PPI be done on the car?

  • rsabeebe (registered bidder) 4 years, 6 monthsago

So, the simple fact that he mentioned the odo was broken to DMV is the reason for the ding on the Carfax? Man, that is such a simple DIY repair, it’s a shame the car now has the hit on the Carfax. Thanks for the explanation.

  • DrivenTexas (seller) 4 years, 6 monthsago

@rsabeebe Missed a bit of your question. The odometer was broken for about 3 months, so I assume whatever miles he put on it in those months were not logged by the odo.

  • DrivenTexas (seller) 4 years, 6 monthsago

@rsabeebe I apologize for the confusion. A common issue on aircooleds is someone pressing the trip reset button which breaks the plastic gear causing the odometer to stop counting miles. The previous owner mentioned that (the odometer broke) to the DMV when he was registering the car a few months ago. It is a simple fix, about $200, and we have had it done. Hope that helps clear the air.

  • rsabeebe (registered bidder) 4 years, 6 monthsago

I’m curious about the mileage discrepancy. If the gears simply cracked and we’re replaced, why was the odometer reading ever out of sequence? It’s a simple repair and would not effect the reading of the odometer at all. Am I misunderstanding what happened?

  • DrivenTexas (seller) 4 years, 6 monthsago
