Up for auction is this 1992 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Cabriolet finished in Grand Prix White over a Marine Blue partial leather interior.  Debuted with major revisions to styling, aerodynamics, suspension, steering, and brakes, as well as the introduction of a new twin-plug 3.6L engine, the 964 generation represents one of the most significant developments of the Porsche 911. This 1992 example is said to have been bought and sold by the two previous owners through a prominent collector and PCA member before being recently acquired by the selling dealer. With several major services carried out over the past few years, this 964 Cabriolet is now being offered for auction by its seller out of North Carolina while showing approximately 105k miles on the odometer.

This 964 is finished in Grand Prix White with a blue Cabriolet soft top and matching tonneau cover.  The seller notes a few cosmetic imperfections throughout the exterior including some hairline cracks in the paint on the front bumper and a chip along the edge of the passenger side door.  The CARFAX report indicates an accident to have occurred in 1996, and the seller states that the front bumper cover and hood were professionally refinished as a result.  Additionally, the rear bumper cover is said to have been refinished for cosmetic purposes in 2017.  Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with the CARFAX report.  The brake calipers have been painted red and this example rides on a set of 17” Cup Design wheels which are said to have been refinished at some point during previous ownership. The tires show date codes from 2012 and are recommended for replacement.

Inside, this 964 sports a Marine Blue partial leather interior with white instrument dials and silver gauge bezels. Factory features include an additional amplifier, cruise control, power-adjustable seats, and rear console cassette storage. The seller indicates normal signs of wear commensurate with the car’s age and mileage and notes that a crack is present on the dashboard above the gauge cluster.  An older Alpine radio has been installed and all gauges, lights, and accessories are said to be fully functional.

This Carrera 2 is equipped with an air-cooled 3.6L M64 flat-six engine which features dry-sump lubrication, electronic fuel injection, and twin-plug ignition.  As much as 247 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual transmission.  The 964 was also the first 911 to have been fitted with ABS brakes and power steering, as well as coil springs and shock absorbers in place of torsion bars. This example has received a secondary muffler delete, providing a more aggressive and throaty tone. This 964 is said to have undergone major services in 2014, 2016, and 2019, the most recent of which included a new clutch and refresh of the braking system. Corresponding invoices are provided for reference in the photo gallery along with images of the underside.

This sale will include a set of two keys, original owner's manuals, a collection of service records, and a clean title. For any enthusiast in search of an air-cooled Cabriolet, this nicely presented 964 Carrera 2 makes an excellent choice.

@bdonahue54 Do you have all the emission stuff intact?

  • bdonahue54 (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Good afternoon, closing down to the last couple hours . Will be checking the thread consistently. Happy to answer questions.

I’ve had the privilege of being around this car since I was 15 years old, seeing it coming in and out of service and storage. I didn’t hesitate for a second when I found out I had the opportunity to own it. The marine blue top always did it for me over the white exterior. This is a turn the key and go example. Runs very strong though all gears and rev ranges and certainly punches above its weight class.

I’m confident the next custodian will continue to treat her right and DRIVE it, as Dr. F intended ! Good luck to all bidders today!

    Brian

@bdonahue54 Thanks for the quick reply. I asked because I think the white dials look fantastic. Great car. GLWS

  • bdonahue54 (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@Cielo To our understanding it was not available as an option in period. With that being said from my research, they were available as OEM pieces from Pelican. They were on the car prior to our acquisition. With that being said they’ve grown on me a ton! Contrast the blue just right to pair with the exterior.

Beautiful! Are the white dials and silver bezels factory? Thank you.

  • bdonahue54 (seller) 2 years, 8 monthsago

@wutanec As the second paragraph of the write-up lists, there was a minor front end occurrence in 1996, where both the front bumper and hood were refinished. No blend issues or compromises. The rest of the body panels are original paint to my knowledge, as shown in the meter readings attached in the photos!
