We are pleased to offer for auction this highly collectible 1991 Porsche 944 Turbo Cabriolet finished in Grand Prix White over a Classic Grey interior.  One of the rarest transaxle Porsche’s ever made, the 944 Turbo Cabriolet was produced exclusively for the U.K. and European markets with only 625 examples built in total.  It features the same engine from the Turbo S model and this particular Cabriolet is one of only 100 that were configured in right-hand drive.  Said to have been imported from London in 2016 by its 3rd owner in California, this sought-after 944 is now being offered with approximately 67k miles showing on the odometer, accompanied by original manuals, service records, a stamped maintenance books, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

The Grand Prix White finish is said to be in very good condition overall with only a few minor scratches on the trunk lid and an imperfection on the passenger side door molding (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  The paint is said to appear original and the seller notes that a brand-new black cloth top was installed last year under their ownership along with a new boot cover.  The Cabriolet rides on factory D90 wheels that were recently professionally refinished and dressed in new Pirelli P Zero tires.

The Classic Grey interior features leather front seats and is reported to have been kept in great condition except for some minor signs of wear.  The factory stereo and speakers have been replaced with Alpine units and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.  The original radio will be included in the sale.

This Cabriolet features the same turbocharged 2.5 L inline 4-cylinder engine from the Turbo S model.  250 HP and 258 lb.-ft of torque are sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.  An upgraded turbocharger is said to have been installed by Speedforce racing in San Diego along with a custom exhaust system from the headers back, at a reported cost of $8k.  This car is said to have been properly maintained throughout its life with a full service last carried out early in 2020 and less than 200 miles driven since.  A fresh service will be carried out by the seller's mechanic and they have also offered to make the sale contingent upon a California smog pass.

This sale will include original manuals, a stamped maintenance book, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.  For any transaxle Porsche enthusiast, this extremely rare right-hand drive 944 Turbo Cabriolet is not to be overlooked.

@PaulLittell it’s the texture of the panel. Its uniform on both sides. I can assure you that there is no rust or paint bubble/peel

@SeaCay that is correct. At the time I acquired the car I was not able to register it in CA so I registered it with my NY address. Honestly from now on all of collector cars will be registered in South Dakota

  • SeaCay (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

I see the car is currently registered in NY, but is it located in CA?

@Maui928 No accident history that I an aware of. I did notice the headlight yesterday when taking photos. The bumper spacing looks equal on both sides? I will ask my mechanic to investigate the light. It could be a travel distance setting issue.

  • Maui928 (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Any accident history? The passenger headlight is out of alignment and the rear bumper has a gap on the passenger side where it meets the quarter panel. These areas look off so I’m wondering why? Thanks so much!

  • joecash24 (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@PorscheRICH Hello. The car is currently registered in NY. As the original euro spec exhaust wouldn’t pass CA smog. However the current exhaust system has a 50 state Cat. Also because the car is more than 25 years old it is exempt from DOT standards.
More simply put I don’t believe you would have any trouble.

  • PorscheRICH (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

I live in New Jersey and am wondering if I will have any difficulty in getting this 1991 Euro spec car registered in my State. Any comments you can add would be appreciated. Thx.

  • joecash24 (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Surface rust was the catalyst for the exhaust replacement. The brake lines were also replaced.
No sill repairs have been done/needed
I will try to get her on a lift for some added pics

  • canaus 3 years, 3 monthsago

Any comment from the owner on rust issues? These UK cars can suffer from sill rust due to the winter salted roads and corrosion to the underbody mechanicals. Is there any record of sill repair & body repainting? Any additional photos of the underbody?
