Up for auction is this 1991 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Coupe finished in Guards Red with a removable Canyon Copper satin vinyl wrap.  This 964 sports a well-preserved Cashmere Beige interior and came factory equipped with power-operated seats, cruise control, a rear window wiper, and an electric sunroof.  In addition to its vinyl wrap, this 964 has been customized with H&R lowering springs, an upgraded stereo, and Porsche 997-style 18” Turbo wheels.  Acquired by the current owner in 2018, this 964 has been kept as part of a large private collection and driven sparingly ever since.  It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of South Carolina with approximately 43k miles showing on the odometer.

This 964 came factory finished in Guards Red and currently wears a removable Canyon Copper 3M satin vinyl wrap which was applied under prior ownership by Auto Addictions of Kingston, Pennsylvania.  A few minor imperfections are noted at the seams of the vinyl wrap, and the rear driver-side quarter panel is believed to have been refinished as a result of damage reported on CARFAX in 2002.  Following this damage, the car was issued with a salvage title in 2002 and later a rebuilt title in 2004.  Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a full CARFAX report.  This Carrera rides on Porsche 997-style 18” Turbo wheels dressed in a set of mixed tires which are recommended for replacement due to age.

Inside, you will find a nicely presented Cashmere Beige partial leather interior with matching carpets and a contrasting black dashboard.  Factory equipment includes 4-way power-adjustable seats, a rear window wiper, cruise control, and an electric sunroof.  An upgraded Sony radio has been installed along with a set of custom Coco floormats.  Some wear is depicted on the shift knob and the seller reports all gauges and accessories to be working properly.

This 964 is equipped with an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine rated at 247 HP and 228 lb.-ft of torque.  The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox, providing acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 5 seconds.  In contrast with its predecessors, the 964 received a heavily revised coil spring suspension and was also the first Porsche 911 to offer power steering and anti-lock brakes (ABS). CARFAX shows a long history of service carried out primarily by Porsche Wyoming Valley in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania with less than 5k miles driven over the past 10 years. Images of the undercarriage can be found in the gallery.

This sale will include the original owner's manuals, spare tire, jack, and a rebuilt South Carolina title. Offering an incredible value, this low-mileage 964 Carrera 2 Coupe is not to be overlooked.

Excited to see the auction end here. I believe we have a lot of room to go. I just want to encourage the bidders by reminding everyone this is a low mile, C2 964 coupe. I spend too much time each day scanning the interwebs for air cooled Porsches. When I see a head gasket 964 C2 Coupe for sale with 40K miles it’s typically an ask of $120K or more. The rebuilt title on this car is going to provide the buyer with an exceptional purchase price and all the driving experience of the $120k car. Perhaps a more thrilling driving experience because you’re now driving a machine and not the golden goose investment piece. Just drive and enjoy.
    Good luck!

    Thanks for asking Archer.
The owner of the 964 has some wheels that he just purchased from a 1990 964. I don’t believe they’re called cup wheels. In any event if the auction meets reserve then he would be more than happy to talk to the buyer about these wheels.

  • Archer1 (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

CartBeforeHorse- GM, any update on the Cup wheels?

  • CartBeforeHorse (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

Yes, not much has changed since then. A few hundred more miles, different wheels, and a 60% climb in 964 values. Singer has sent a massive ripple through this market.
Good luck to all bidders as we close in on these last few hours.
    Thanks

Wasn't this car listed/sold on Bring a Trailer a couple of years ago?

Hello. The 964 is guards red and is covered with a 3M vinyl wrap. In the last few pictures in the galley you can see the car before the wrap.

I appreciate your comments GeorgeJ. And I agree that the seller has been candid. But, GeorgeJ, you have not bid on the car; I have. I might do so again. I am doing my due diligence as a stake holder, as any prudent possible purchaser would. To this point, you have shown no stake in this at all.

  • CartBeforeHorse (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

According to the Carfax the 964 has traveled approximately 12,000 miles or more since the accident. I think that rules out remnant engine damage due to the accident.

I spent two days driving this car and it’s by far the finest machine that I’ve ever driven. I’ve got a 70s 911 and while it’s wonderful, it won’t stop, go, turn the way this 3,6 964 can.

As I promised you I will forward you the shop that performed the inspection. I believe that they will be able to rule out any concerns that you have about the bodywork.

This car is an opportunity for someone to experience the thrill of 964 driving at what I have believe will be a fraction of the price of a car that doesn’t have the same history. Some people can’t get over the history issue (which is fine) but they will pay handsomely for the same driving experience.

    Thank you

  • GeorgeJ 2 years, 5 monthsago

@avonwaldow The seller has repeatedly acknowledged the reported damage/salvage and provided reasonable commentary given the fact that there is not further historic data. What a patient seller.

Photos of the paint prior to wrap are provided so again question dealt with.

The best thing for a prospective buyer is to engage with the shop that did a PPI or have another one done with particular study on the left rear corner of the car. That should provide clarity.

I bought my 93 C2 13 months ago and 6000 miles. I’ve had the oil changed twice so this notion of 10,000 to 15,000 miles seems spurious to me. I also noted that previous owners of my car changed the oil in similar time frames throughout its history.

This is a nice lowish mile C2 and should provide the buyer thousands of miles and smiles. Good luck to bidders and seller alike.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, the open questions might make this car a bit of a risky proposition. Possible body and engine repairs could perhaps be expensive.

  • CartBeforeHorse (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Hello. My client acquired this car in 2018. Prior to 2018, there is no way we can answer anything beyond what is in the Carfax report. We just know the car was repaired correctly and is mechanically exceptional. There are pictures of the car before the wrap in the gallery.
    Thanks

  • avonwaldow (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Greetings: I have been reading the Car Fax report, and so additional questions have arisen, sorry:
    1) In 2008, two oil changes were performed in only 2,000 miles. (Typically, the 964 requires an oil change every 10K-15K). Why was this done? Does the car suffer from oil leaks or seepage? Does oil need to be added frequently?
    2) The car was involved in an accident and tree collision. The left rear of the car was damaged, the car could not be started and was towed. What engine damage was sustained and how was it repaired and by whom? How was the left rear fender damage addressed.
    3) What is the condition of the paint under the wrap, particularly at the left rear fender?
    Thanks very much, Arnie.

I’m selling the.car for a large collector. He was involved in a partnership that has a dealer license for a non Porsche related business.
This car is part of his personal collection.

  • CartBeforeHorse (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Thank you. I will respond once I hear back from the shop regarding permission to provide their contact info. I presume they are closed for a long weekend.

The details about the accident damage are unknown other than what the Carfax reports. At the time of the accident it would not have taken much damage for the insurance company to write off the car. 964s weren’t worth a fraction of what they are now.

There are pics or the car before the wrap in the gallery.

Again this car is ready for someone to take it and use it…daily driver, track car, canyon car. It’s a low mile and mechanically exceptional car that’s ready to work for the buyer. The best way to enjoy this car is :
    A. Don’t show anyone the title that says “rebuilt”.
    B. Drive the hell out of it.
    C. Don’t ever sell it because it brings you joy and you will regret it.

  • nate2046 2 years, 5 monthsago

Did the inspection diagnose the air conditioner issue? 76 degree outlet temps don’t indicate a healthy system. Carfax shows a change of ownership recently and the video has a dealer plate attached to the rear deck. Can you please clarify if this is a private party sale or are you a dealer?

  • avonwaldow (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Thanks. I sent the contact information as requested. What information/details do you have about the salvage title and subsequent rebuilt title? And what specifically caused the damage and how, and by whom, was it repaired? Finally, what is the condition of the paint and body under the wrap? Thank you very much, Arnie.

  • CartBeforeHorse (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@avonwaldow if you will hit the contact seller button and message me I will put you in touch with the shop.
    Thanks all

  • avonwaldow (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have bid on the car. How far is the car from Hilton Head? Is it possible to get a copy of the shop‘s inspection report? Thank you.

  • CartBeforeHorse (seller) 2 years, 5 monthsago

@macfly, there is a demo of the AC working (and the accessories) in the video….thanks.

@tystav I may have some news about an additional set of wheels but for now the Turbo wheels are it.

@avonwaldo, yes an inspection is absolutely a possibility. A local shop has already inspected the car and I’m willing to help put bidders in touch with that shop to discuss the car. I of course want to be considerate of the shop’s time so I won’t be just posting their information. If your bidding on the car, please contact me for their info.
    Thanks all

Hello all. Thanks for the comments.
The Carfax points to driver side rear damage that left the car not running. That is not surprising as the engine electronics are located there.
In any event back when these cars were worth a fifth of what they are now, body work, paint work, mechanical work was certainty enough to make the insurance company write off the car.
The important thing is that the car has been properly repaired, inspected, title rebuilt, and given a clean bill of health. Someone will have a mechanically exceptional 964 driving experience for a fraction of what it would cost for a concours show car. She’s got the looks too.
There are pics before the wrap and PCar is going to upload them.

    Thank you all

  • OilCanHarry (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Gotta wonder what it looks like under the wrap.

  • Needtoaddanotherone2 (registered bidder) 2 years, 5 monthsago

Hello Viewers (in my best James May voice)
Thanks for visiting with this beautiful 964!
Looking forward to the commentary but really looking forward to finding this glorious machine a new daddy that will use it…daily it, track it, canyon carve with it. This is not a diaper rubbed museum piece…it’s ready to work at making you joyful when you stop, go, and turn…like stink.
