Representing one of only 746 U.S. specification Targas produced for the model year, this 1991 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Targa comes finished in Guards Red over Cashmere Beige partial leather upholstery. Pairing a G50 5-speed manual transmission with its 3.6-liter flat-six, this example was also selected with cruise control and an amplifier. Modified with H&R lowering springs, Mille Miglia Cup 1-style wheels, Rennline interior components, and more, this rare 964 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California accompanied by a host of service documentation.
This Targa is finished in the classic shade of Guards Red (L80K) and features a wraparound glass dome rear window, a removable roof panel, and a black Targa band. Modifications include European-style clear side markers and Mille Miglia Cup 1-style wheels. H&R lowering springs were installed by Sleepers Speed Shop in Costa Mesa, California in 2019 and the Targa top canvas was previously replaced by Dan Petchel in New Jersey. The seller notes a couple of dings on the hood and some pitting on the wheels. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report and paint meter readings.
Factory-specified in Cashmere Beige partial leather (LC) upholstery, the cabin has been fitted with a pair of matching 993 front seats while the rear seats have been removed. An upgraded stereo and sound system have also been installed, along with Rennline floor pedals and gauge bezels. Some wear is noted on the driver’s seat bolster, and the original rear seats are included in the sale. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.
Power is provided by an air-cooled 3.6-liter M64 flat-six engine, sending as much as 247 HP and 228 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a G50 5-speed manual transmission. The seller adds that a host of service records will accompany the sale, and a recent pre-purchase inspection (PPI) found no major issues. At 69k miles, TRE Motorsports in Van Nuys, California, performed an extensive engine reseal, including cylinder replacement, cylinder head resurfacing, and the installation of new valve guides, piston rings, gaskets, sleeves, O-rings, hoses, and hardware. A late-model head gasket and a new clutch were also installed, all completed within the last 30k miles. The car also features a muffler bypass pipe for enhanced sound.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This car has been meticulously maintained and is in excellent condition. Major components have been addressed, including an extensive engine rebuild and clutch replacement. The paint is in very good condition (I have annotated and highlighted any flaws in the pictures I will be uploading soon). The interior is well-preserved, with only minor wear on the driver's seat bolster (which can be easily refreshed with a re-dye, although I couldn't schedule an appointment in time). The car recently underwent a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) upon receipt and has since been serviced. A photo of the PPI is included.”

Down to the last 15 mins- Please scroll down to my first comment on the car at the beginning of the auction summarizing my view on it + the services conducted.
In the photo Gallery you can see the PPI + invoice for most recent service. There are 2 videos posted with paint meter readings, cold start, undercarriage, walk around & driving.
- No reason to wait till the last secs to bid as the clock restarts anyway
Thanks.
*The car has an extensive top end engine rebuild done at TRE motorsports + Clutch & a lot of other work, that can be seen in the receipts in the gallery.
*Car comes with rear seat delete , pretty sought after upgrade, these sell over $2500 regularly. (Original rear seat cushions & hardware also included )
@JAB12 Thanks Julio...appreciate the comment!
Bid in the amount of $85,000
I’ve bought several aircooled cars from @Tarek307 including a ‘94 C2 Targa. If it’s listed by him it suredly is a great car. Bid with confidence. Happy 4th! To all.
@NYC993S Thx Pete, glad you're still enjoying the 2S, waiting for you to get tired of it and sell it back to me ;) haha.
@C4ll911 your point is? Good luck finding a clean C2 Targa under $100,000. In my humble opinion this one should do $95,000-$100,000 especially with a major engine rebuild & the very rare rear seat delete cubby.
I bought my 98’ Carrera S from Tarek 2 years ago sight unseen and it was even better than described, bid with confidence this is one of the top sellers of air cooled 911s in the country.
Now that’s a rare bird, seldomly do we 964 Targas for sale, love this and it’s a C2 , recent engine rebuild for the win.
Bid in the amount of $64,999
@Luft78 Yes the shocks are original, i just added HR springs to lower the car, if you wanted to go with better shocks like Bilstien B12 or B7 (semi adjustable) you would just use the same springs. If you want a full coilover system those come with their own springs already on them.
Quick question, so the shocks on the car are original it’s just lowered with H&R springs? When it’s time to replace the shocks would new springs need to be fitted as well?

Guys I just realized the PPI wasn’t in the gallery; just uploaded it- after the PPI the car went to Mini Corsa where findings were addressed.
Notice the leak turned out to be from the breather hose when Mini Corsa got into it- and this was addressed (please see the mini corsa repair order)

@th535is AC works fine, but highly doubt you'll ever use it even in Alabama, i've been driving the car and just leave the Targa top in the Garage, haven't even put it on in a month lol. (you could also store it in the car especially with the rear seat delete shelf, makes it easy to put in the back seat area)
Great looking Targa. I'm in Alabama so this is probably a relative question compared to California's climate but how well does the air conditioning work?
Can always tell when it’s a Tarek car from the background, trusted seller with a great reputation.
I saw this car this weekend in Laguna Beach, one of the few times my wife actually said a car was beautiful , if this was a tiptronic you’d be seeing a bid from me as I could pretend it’s for her lol. 964 Targa are one of the rarest 964 variants, and this one with an engine rebuild and all the work done to it is quite tempting.
@C4ll911 a C2 that’s sorted with major work including an engine rebuild these days anything under $100k would be a deal.
FYI this car no-sale’d on a different auction site recently at $87k. $92k or so offered after. A pristine 964 targa recently went for $101k. Am I missing something about this car?

@Nybuilder no prob , Yes it is a DING just as annotated in the first photo you saw where I marked it and pointed it out and the 2nd pic I uploaded. Thx
@Tarek307 thanks for the explanation. So it's just a ding without damage to the original paint. That is my concern. In the photos posted I can't tell and when I zoom in on the photo it isn't clear if the paint is damaged in addition to the "ding"
Thanks again

@Nybuilder another photo added. the closer you get to it you can't see it in a photo this is best clearest way to show it- Again most likely easily removed by PDR guy, my guy isn't around and didn't want to just hire anyone to do it.
@Nybuilder it’s a ding like a door ding it’s not a “dent”
@NYbuilder please see photo 51 in the gallery, it’s not easy showing the ding because it depends on reflection , photo 51 where I circled / annotated it shows it best
There isn’t a chip where the ding is, it’s a ding on a hood of a 30 year old car, if my PDR guy was available I’m pretty sure it would easily be taken out.
Plz also see the walk around video. I will take another pic of it later today or tmrw and post thx.
Gm
Nice looking targa
Can you please post another photo of the hood ? A close up of the dings please. Is the larger dent also a chip?
Thanks
Hello all, i'm here to answer any questions or comments- You can research me online, i've specialized in Air Cooled 911's especially 964/993 for close to 10 years. Many references and reviews online.
I first had this Targa in 2019 and just recently rebought it last month. Its a very clean car that was always properly maintained, and has had all the major big ticket items taken care of including an
extenstive engine rebuild + Clutch done.
The paint is in really good condition (i’ve annotated & pointed out any flaws in pics i’ll be uploading soon) Interior is very nice, aside from a little wear on the drivers seat bolster (which can easily be refreshed w a redye but i couldn’t get an appt in time to have my guy do it )
*The car was recently PPI’d once i received it and was subsequently serviced *See service record images*
BEAUTIFUL work on the restoration here
