Built by Porsche Motorsport to be used in their U.S. customer racing series, the Porsche 964 Carrera Cup cars began as European-market Carrera RS models which were reconfigured to meet U.S. regulations and then shipped to Porsche’s motorsports partner Andial to be modified for racing. As the with Carrera RS, the Carrera Cup features a seam-welded chassis, an aluminum hood, a limited-slip differential, and a blueprinted 3.6-liter flat-six engine. When the Carrera Cup series was canceled shortly before its first scheduled race, the cars were distributed and sold through Porsche dealers throughout North America. This 1992 example is one of 45 cars imported to the U.S. for the Carrera Cup series, one of 29 cars that were shipped to Andial to be prepped for racing, and among only four that were intended to be parts cars. It was delivered new to the Sewickley Car Store of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, and was acquired by the current owner in 2019. Showing approximately 27k miles on the odometer, this authentic 964 Carrera Cup is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.

The 964 Carrera Cup comes without a sunroof and shares its special seam-welded chassis and aluminum hood with the Carrera RS. This example is finished in Grand Prix White and features Carrera Cup graphics on the doors, a cowl-mounted external cutoff switch, a front tow hook, a B&B dual exhaust, and aluminum 17” Cup wheels which were professionally refinished in 2020 and mounted with new Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires in late 2023. Front fog lights were also added in 2023. The seller notes a replacement Sigla windshield has been installed and rust repair was performed to the windshield cowl and battery tray in 2020. The car saw track use under prior ownership and received paintwork on the passenger front fender and driver rear quarter. Some chips and cracked paint are present on the right-rear quarter panel and the car has an older layer of front-end paint protection film that shows signs of age. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The black interior was fitted with a pair of replacement electrically adjustable seats in April 2023. Equipment includes lightweight RS-style carpeting, RS-style door panels with red pull straps, power windows, airbags, a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, and an engraved Carrera Cup USA placard on the passenger-side dashboard. The seller indicates a previously installed bolt-in roll bar and telemetry equipment have been removed.

Shared with the Carrera RS, the Carrera Cup features a blueprinted 3.6-liter M64/03 flat-six engine with hand-matched pistons and cylinders, sport-tuned DME engine management, solid rubber engine mounts, and a lightweight flywheel. Up to 256 HP and 240 lb.-ft of torque is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50/10 manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. An aftermarket B&B dual exhaust system was installed under prior ownership and new Carrera RS-style Bilstein dampers were installed in March 2023.

This sale will include a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, a Porsche Carrera Cup Technical Training Binder, a Porsche Production Specifications Certificate, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “We are proud to present our latest Enthusiast Spec listing on PCARMARKET! This 27k-mile 1992 Porsche Carrera Cup USA is 1 of 45 cars imported to the US for the Carrera Cup series, 1 of 29 cars that was shipped to Andial to be prepped for the series, and 1 of only 4 which was intended to be a parts car. Due to the lack of sponsorship and sales, the race series was canceled before it started, and these cars were later sold through the Porsche dealer network as the Carrera Cup Edition. These cars feature an M64/03 engine, a seam-welded chassis, an aluminum hood, a sunroof delete, lightweight door glass, a G50/10 transmission with shorter gearing, and larger brakes among other upgrades. In other words, this is the closest car to a Euro RS that we received in North America!”

@burnrubr: You never know! We are still a ways off from where the car was bid to on the other auction site, but many of these auctions pickup in the final minutes/seconds and I’m confident we can find a new caretaker for the car with the help of the PCar Market team!

With just a little over 3-hours left to bid on this 911 Carrera Cup USA I wanted to take a moment to highlight a few of the unique items that make this car a very unique 964.

1 of 45 cars imported for the US Carrera Cup series
1 of 29 cars that was shipped to Andial to be prepped for the series
1 of only 4 which was intended to be a parts car for the series

The Carrera Cup Edition car is essentially the European Carrera RS Basic N/GT car with added safety equipment to make the car USA legal.

    It features the following items:
    M64/03 engine
    Seam welded chassis
    Aluminum hood
    Sunroof delete
    Lightweight door glass
    G50/10 transmission
    Limited Slip Diff
    Larger brakes
    Radio Delete
    A/C Delete
    Manual Side Mirrors

With brand new suspension, shifter bushing, fluids, and alignment completed in April/May of 2023 and just 27k-miles, this car is ready to be driven and enjoyed! If anyone has any additional questions please leave a comment or send me a message.

    Best of luck!

    -Dave@Enthusiast Spec

@Lottacars: I have not observed any remnants of a cage with the RS carpets in place. If you removed the carpets I suspect there are some signs, it was removed by a reputable shop named Dunn Fab in Pennsauken, NJ under current ownership.

Just a reminder that this car and the other three Parts Cars did not have roll cages installed by Andial. The rear section of the Andial roll cages are still visible in cars that were not converted back to Andial spec.

  • Lottacars (registered bidder) 1 month, 3 weeksago

Any noticeable remnants of where the roll bar was?

Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.

  • enthusiastspec (seller) 1 month, 3 weeksago

With under 24-hours left in this auction I just wanted to thank everyone for their bids and comments thus far!

As @Lottacars pointed out, this car was listed on the other popular auction site last year and I encourage everyone to look at the comments and bids from that listing. I would also like to point out that new tires have been installed (July of 2023) and the oil and brake fluid were changed (February 2024) since that listing. I have uploaded additional photos of the new Continental Extreme Contact 2 Tires and a receipt from the recent fluid change.

I have also added a few photos from the Andial archives which were taken when this car alogn with 28 others were being prepped for the US Carrera Cup series, and an AutoWeek issue which featured one of the first Andial cars on the cover.

If anyone has any questions please send me a message or leave a comment. I will be traveling tomorrow, but checking both regularly.

@FlyBoi: As one of four cars that was intended to be a parts car for the series, Andial had their clutch discs exchanged, and the engines sealed and dyno'd, but they did not receive the full conversion. When my client purchased the car it had an aftermarket roll cage in the car and Recaro racing seats, both have since been removed and are not included with the sale.

  • enthusiastspec (seller) 1 month, 4 weeksago

@Jetpaul: As @burnrubr indicated, the car was invited by World Auctioneers to participate in the Saudi Kingdom's (Riyadh) first ever international salon/auction event. After the even the car returned back to the states.

  • FlyBoi (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

    enthusiastspec -
Do you still have the original roll bar/cage and seats? If so, will they be included with the sale?

Great car. I’ve owned one (589) and done DE’s, and PCA Club Races with it since 2008. Really a blast to drive. I don’t think it’s possible to ever regret buying, owning, and driving the snot out of it. GLWTS.

I was lucky enough to spend some quality time with this special 964. @CBRacerX I go by Cobalt here not 965. I was going to add to the comments but you said it already. I can say I have known more than half of the 45 US cups including the red one over the years and other than a few outliers owned by some here this is one super special 964 Cup. I wish I could add it to my collection but management said no. 😢

You can't go wrong with this one. It has been completely gone through and is all one needs to have the ultimate 964 experience. You will love the short ratio gearbox accompanied by the extra power, lightened weight and fresh factory RS suspension. The true US spec RS which one day I suspect will be recognized as one of the rarest 964's made. This being just one of 4 parts cars and 29 sent to ANDIAL. Makes my heart beat faster, hopefully I will get another drive in it before it goes to its new owner.

    GLWA

As the “stunt driver” of the car in the video, I approve this auction :) It’s a really nice 964 and dergarage.com has enjoyed being part of keeping it running as it should.

    TL;DR; - I’ll summarize – this 964 is huge fun to drive.

As someone who has been fortunate enough to spend a few hours behind the wheel of this Cup Car, but not fortunate enough to have spare garage space (and change) to keep it permanently, I agree with @965. This is the strongest street friendly 3.6 964 I’ve ever driven. The RS shocks are just right, and handle tooling around town as well as backroad barnstorming or a track day without punishing you.

The whole is greater than the sum of the parts here. Just a pleasure to drive, with a grin inducing soundtrack (listen to the attached mp3) and ideal air cooled 911 front windscreen view. Excellent chassis dynamics without any electronic nannies or power steering getting in the way. Brakes are outstanding. G50 transmission shifts perfectly. And it looks pretty good as well, but am especially partial to the official German motorsport white on my fun cars.

It really needs nothing to enjoy it straight away. Just put in the key, start it and drive on.

The fact that it has such an interesting history and is a rare bird is icing on a very delicious cake, I’ve owned two 964s and driven many as a driving instructor. This is one of the good ones :)

  • RapidGT (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

Phenomenal cars! Own #592 (1 of 16 unmodified “port” cars) and it’s a blast to own and drive.

@RJ80 These cars were meant to be imported as street cars to avoid any issues with the US Federal Government as they had with the 959. Once the cars reached Andial these seats would’ve been replaced with a Recaro SPG racing seat. They didn’t see any reason to equip them with sport or bucket seats as these weren’t intended to stay with the car.

@burnrubr A lot were raced in whatever series they could find. At least a couple were raced at the Daytona 24 hours in the 90’s. Couple were rebuilt and rebodied into 993 RSR’s. Some were also crashed.

  • Vahamiryan (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

@seller. Are these seats a replacement of an original electric seats or the replaced instead of the buckets?

  • burnrubr (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

Wow! one of 45 ever made! i'm wondering how many of these are left in existence? I remember seeing one for sale at Canepas a couple of years ago.

  • RJ80 (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

These are really cool cars with a great story behind them. I was lucky to see one in person in the collection of an acquaintance several years ago. It is interesting to me that these were chosen to be equipped with full power comfort seats (not even sport seats, with their larger bolsters), what with all the weight savings and race focus elsewhere. Porsche probably figured there's only so much inconvenience Americans can tolerate. It will be interesting to see where the price ends up compared to Euro Carrera RS models. Good luck with the auction.

  • spartansix (registered bidder) 2 monthsago

A rare bird and not over-restored... you could still drive this hard without too much fear.
It's interesting to see all the little touches that Porsche/Andial did differently on the Cup... no rubberized stoneguard under the car, for example! With no sunroof and no rear seats, I expect this is one of the lightest 964s to roll out of the factory (unsurprising, given its intended purpose). The Pat Long signature is a nice touch too.

  • enthusiastspec (seller) 2 monthsago

    Hello everyone,

I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself, my name is Dave and I own and operate Enthusiast Spec and I am excited to represent this special 964 Carrera Cup USA on behalf of my client!

As the listing states, this is 1 of 45 cars imported for the US Carrera Cup series, 1 of 29 cars that was shipped to Andial to be prepped for the series, and 1 of only 4 which was intended to be a parts car for the series. A dedicated group of Carrera Cup owners have compiled a wealth of information on these US Cup cars on https://www.carreracupusa.com. These cars have a fascinating story and I encourage everyone to visit their page.

I will be monitoring the auction closely over the next 7-days, and adding undercarriage photos, paint meters readings, invoices, and other photos throughout the week so please feel free to comment if you have any questions at all.

    Best of Luck,
    Dave@Enthusiastspec
