A spiritual successor to Porsche's legendary 1973 Carrera RS 2.7, the 964 Carrera RS is a super lightweight performance-focused model born from the Carrera Cup racing series. It was offered exclusively in the European market and was built around a lightened body with a special seam welded chassis, minimal interior, upgraded brakes and suspension, a regeared transmission, and a more powerful 3.6-liter engine. A total of 2,276 examples of the Carrera RS were built, and the car has come to be regarded among the greatest driving Porsches of all time. This Maritime Blue 1992 example is said to have been cared for by its original owner in Germany before it was sold to a collector in Switzerland during the mid-1990s, whom it remained with until 2022. Accompanied by a dealer-stamped service booklet and a binder containing over 100 pages of maintenance records, this coveted Carrera RS is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Gstaad, Switzerland.
To save weight, the Carrera RS utilizes an aluminum front bonnet, thin-gauge windows, and plastic transparent covers in place of front fog lights. The undercoating was also omitted from the factory along with the sunroof, and a unique rear bumper was fitted with a specially shaped RS center section. This example is finished in Maritime Blue, perhaps the most characteristic color of the 964 RS. It rides on lightweight 17” magnesium Cup Design wheels dressed in Michelin tires from 2018. The seller describes the exterior to be in very good overall condition, noting only minor signs of road-going wear on the front end. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Continuing inside, the Carrera RS sheds weight by eliminating rear seats, sound-deadening material, power accessories, and air conditioning. A pair of racing-style bucket seats feature blue striped inserts, Maritime Blue painted backings, and matching seatbelts. The basic door panels include manual window rollers and lightweight colored pull-straps in place of traditional handles. The original Blaupunkt radio is said to remain fully functional along with all other accessories and instrumentation.
Claimed by Porsche to have been crafted with hand-selected pistons and cylinders, Carrera RS utilizes an upgraded version of the 964’s 3.6-liter M64 engine featuring solid rubber mounts, a lightweight singles mass flywheel, and revised ECU programming. Up to 260 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a close-ratio 5-speed G50 manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. The RS derives its front brakes from the 911 Turbo and includes a lowered suspension with stiffer rate springs, Bilstein dampers, and adjustable anti-roll bars at the front and rear. An original service booklet shows dealer maintenance stamps and an extensive collection of records is included in a binder. The seller states a recent service and inspection were performed by an authorized Porsche service center.

@Hi What's VIN on your 928? If it include "ZZZ" it will be automatically rejected at DMV. Early 928 with number only VIN have good chance of going thru CA DMV system if the car is previously registered in other US states.

@garrege there is no modification required to pass CARB for california. The emissions equipment on US and international cars is the same. Assuming the car is stock, it will pass the test. Only 1 private company does the certifications however. http://gnkauto.com/ I haven't gotten a quote recently, but I'd budget close to $20k. They have done multiple 964RS. not a big deal. just expensive and time consuming which is why most CA owners get more creative on registration.

@jbauto In Switzelrand cars are subject to a yearly inspection once they are over 10 years old. These inspections are very thorough and strict, this ensures that all the cars registered are in perfect working conditions.
The Swiss and Germans take better care of their cars than any others on the Continent.

I just brought in a Colbalt Blue 964RS. As stated the 25 year exception is 49 state, no CA. I was told it would not be passed by CARB. Since I don’t live there I was not effected.

To be more accurate, this car cannot be brought into CA without doing major modifications/federalizing. The recommendation would be to go through other states.

This is the second 964 RS produced ( number 062 ), German market in maritime blue , it has some peculiarities such as, for example, the leather of the seats which is not perforated, exactly like the other first 30 RS produced. Could the seller please remove the spare wheel and take some pictures of the trunk without ? Could you also take pictures of the stamped numbers found under the front and the rear lid, inside the doors and behind the knee pads? Thanks

The car always lived in the region of Lausanne and never used in winter so there is so no concern for corrosion from salty roads. In Switzerland people usually drive a winter car for the winter.
Can you post underside of the Maritime Blue car? For the high mile car in snowy area, I am bit concerned about corrosion. Is it also hard to post driving video at this time of the year in Gstaad? I am an owner of Ruby Stone 964 RS and in the market for Maritime Blue!

1. Our 964 has performed a Compression test and it was very successful with values like a factory fresh car (ranging from 210 and 220 psi). The car has never been tracked and always used on mountain roads and well maintained.
This no corrosion of the body this is simply the metallic tin plate that surrounds the engine. Part number *96410628XXX*. We have already ordered the part to replace it. This is a normal phenomenon as the part is extremely thin and is subject to both cold and hot temperatures.
The body and shell of the car has no corrosion whatsoever.
Yes we will upload on Monday pictures of the underbody and suspension.
Three requests :
1. Compression and leak-down results (critical info)? My last 92 C2 had a very robust engine with great results of 160-165 PSI and 0-2% at 112km (including much track time).
2. Photos 41 and 42 show apparent corrosion. Please explain the extent, probable cause, and any suggestions to address to stop it from progressing.
3. Photos of the underside of the car including the suspension.

@Dude356 Yes this car is ok to import to the US, its over 25 years old and the procedure is very straightforward.
@bphillyer As the car is over 25 years old it can be imported and registered in any states without having to comply to emissions etc..

@DriverM Thanks for your message. The body does not show any signs of repaint and the measurements are within the tolerances of a first paint. The paint has a few very small stone chips on the from bumper but otherwise is in outstanding shape. The car is accident free and has never been damaged.
On the mechanical side the car is perfect and there is nothing to be addressed. We will perform an official Porsche service prior to the delivery of the car to its future owner.

Beautiful car. I am not familiar with that paint meter but see variations in the readings. Could you please confirm what panels have been painted and if there has ever been any damage to any body panels.

As this car would probably find an owner in North America, it would be nice to see a PPI from a local Porsche Classic dealer and post it here. It costs around 400€ but it is an exhaustive inspection, and I am sure the price of it would be counter balanced by more confidence from potential bidders, and in the meantime of the inspection, photos from the undersides could be taken.
This car looks certainly amazing on photos, one of my dream car, in Maritime Blue.
And with this mileage, no guilt to drive it when you want :)
