A street-legal derivative of the 964 Carrera Cup race car and a spiritual successor to the original 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7, the limited-production 964 Carrera RS was offered to the European market as a lightweight, high-performance model. Based on the Carrera 2 Coupe, it features a stiffened chassis with a seam-welded bodyshell, Recaro bucket seats, shorter gear ratios, unassisted steering, and more. Finished in Guards Red, this 1992 example was originally registered in Germany and frequently kept in Spain. Acquired from a previous owner of approximately 25 years, it was recently imported to Ontario. The vehicle is said to have been campaigned in club racing and various vintage rallies. Within the last 10k kilometers, it underwent a comprehensive engine rebuild with a displacement increase to 3.8 liters and a transmission overhaul by the specialists at Hartmann + Köster in Bielefeld, Germany. Showing approximately 73k kilometers (under 46k miles) on the odometer, this modified Carrera RS is now being offered for auction out of Canada.

Compared to the standard 964 model, the Carrera RS variant was manufactured using a special seam-welding technique and utilizes an aluminum front bonnet, thinner glass windows, a lightweight rear bumper design, and aero-style mirrors borrowed from the 911 Turbo. Other details include front brake ducts, an RS-specific rear bumper, European-spec side marker lights, manually adjustable side mirrors, and a speed-activated rear spoiler. Finished in Guards Red, this example has been modified with hood and decklid pins along with 18” RH Speedline wheels. The seller notes a few minor paint imperfections, and detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The Carrera RS features a weight-saving interior without rear seats, airbags, air conditioning, a stereo, or sound-deadening material. It came standard with fixed-back Recaro bucket seats and basic door panels with cloth pull straps and roll-up windows. The black interior of this Carrera RS includes tri-tone grey leather seat centers with contrasting red seatbelts and door pulls. A leather-wrapped MOMO Mod 07 steering wheel has also been fitted. The seller notes slight signs of wear.

The Carrera RS is powered by a special version of the 964’s M64 engine featuring hand-selected pistons and cylinders, solid rubber mounts, a lightweight single-mass flywheel, and revised ECU programming. This vehicle’s original 3.6-liter flat-six engine was rebuilt and upgraded to displace 3.8 liters at Hartmann + Köster in Bielefeld, Germany, within the last 10k kilometers. At this time, a sharper camshaft, upgraded intake system, and aftermarket exhaust were installed, while the transmission was overhauled, and a Sachs clutch was fitted. An estimated 350 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a close-ratio 5-speed G50 manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. Additionally, nearly $17k in maintenance was performed at Lndn P Auto LP Porsche Centre London in Ontario, Canada, including a major engine-out service, the installation of a new clutch, and a brake service as detailed in the accompanying record.

This sale will include a Canadian registration, owner’s manuals, and service documentation.

The seller would like you to know: “The ultimate drivers 964 Carrera RS.  This car takes an already raw and driver-focused experience and dials it up another notch with a great hot-rod/'street cup' attitude.  The 3.8L engine feels and pulls like nothing I've ever experienced in a naturally aspirated air-cooled car. Paired with the RS's factory short gearing and lightweight flywheel, it is one of the most responsive and raw 911s I've had the pleasure of trying.  The car has just the right amount of compliance to keep it street-friendly and approachable, but with a clear edge towards its racing heritage.  This is not an all-original purists car, but for a real enthusiast seeking the ultimate multi-purpose car & coffee cruiser, and weekend track warrior, it doesn't get much cooler.”

Good morning folks, final day here for this 964 RS! For US buyers, this car is over 25 years old and therefore US compliant without modification. There is a 15% import tariff payable on this car to import the car from Canada to the US, we are happy to assist with the entire import / transport process (we do it all the time). Try to get your bids in early to avoid any last minute glitches. I will try to be near the car and my keyboard this afternoon when we are near closing time. Best of luck everyone!

@wreiter - yes unfortunately the magnesiums are no longer with the car. generally those original wheels are not recommended for track use so I suspect they were removed a long time ago.
@texman500 - the speedlines I believe are from RH. I have never bothered with paint readings, already knowing the car had paintwork. the decklid is carbon so paint readings will not be possible, but I can try taking readings on cowl and roof if youd like. no known accidents and no reported signs of prior repair from the Porsche body shop nor from Porsche when they did their big service. the seats are brand new from FVD. thanks

Are the speed lines replicas or OEM?

  • Texman500 (registered bidder) 1 week, 3 daysago

Also - Are the seats original/reupholstered or are they replicas?

  • Texman500 (registered bidder) 1 week, 3 daysago

Do you have any paint meter reading from before the car was repainted. Also do you have any meter readings of the original parts - the cowl, roof, and decklid?
Also - Do you know of any accidents? Has the car been checked for previous damage etc?

  • WReiter (registered bidder) 1 week, 3 daysago

Really cool beastie. Are the original magnesium wheels long gone?

Just added photos from before painting (distinguishable by the cup wheels that I later changed to speedlines), as well as photos at the body shop. As you can see, the car didn't look too bad before painting, but it was ready to be freshened. I had the brake calipers professionally refinished from red back to factory black as well.

@993David - of course. When I bought the car it had plenty of stone chips/road rash in the vulnerable areas. Some of the car was original paint and some panels were previously touched up. We originally planned to just refinish the front fascia to freshen the cars appearance but once it was at the body shop we decided to keep going. Our local Porsche-authorized repair facility repainted the front fascia, doors, rear quarters, and rear bumper. Only the cowl, roof, and decklid were left alone. They did a very nice job, the car looks much better now. I will attach a couple photos to the gallery of before the car was painted (how it arrived to us originally) and when it was at the body shop.

@Jarod964 Can you please give some more details on the repaint?

Just added a bunch of current underside photos to the listing, taken Saturday. The engine is shockingly dry for an air-cooled. Also attached transmission serial number (yes, its matching to the build sheet from Porsche @clayman ).

    @cobalt
Power estimate is from the shop who performed the work, have no documentation beyond butt-dyno feeling substantially quicker than a stock RS - think the estimate is probably accurate. The hood is a carbon fibre RSR hood, it was not black, it is carbon showing through underneath. We have had most of the car repainted by Porsche to address wear and love marks, I am not aware of any prior damages nor did the body shop make note of any evidence of previous repair work, but most race cars have been bruised so I would not pitch this car based on its originality. Doors open and close nicely, body gaps look great. Yes, factory RS suspension. I plan to take underside photos in the next couple days as soon as we have a break in the weather up here.

  • cobalt 2 weeksago

@Jarod964 Can you explain what is different about the intake and how you estimated 350HP? Any dyno graphs to back that up? Should we assume the hood was replaced with a black one and the car was fully repainted inside and out? Any body damage while it was campaigned? . If I read this properly it has its original RS suspension currently? Any underside photos? It appears the 3.8 RS or RoW 3.6T rear bumper was added?

In preparation to list this car for sale, we just had Porsche perform a thorough inspection and $17,404 major engine-out service including new OEM (lightweight) clutch, flywheel, front brakes, 4 tires, alignment, fluids, spark plugs, belts, various seals and gaskets to make sure the car has a clean bill of health for its next owner. I just uploaded that invoice below (see end of gallery).

Good morning viewers, thank you for checking out our 964 RS. We are a small dealership in Ontario, Canada called JCARS INC, specializing in air-cooled Porsche's. We've had many 964 Carrera RS's over the years and this one is by far the most exciting, engaging, and fun to drive. The car is available for viewing by any interested party during the auction period (our showroom is in London, ON, just a couple hours from Detroit and a couple hours from Buffalo). For U.S. buyers, we can assist with every step of the import/transport process - the current applicable import tariff to a U.S. buyer will be 15%. I am here to help if there are any questions along the way.
