We are pleased to present this highly collectible 1992 Porsche 964 America Roadster finished in Black over black partial leather.  Commemorating the 40th anniversary of the special lightweight Glaser-bodied 356 “America Roadster” developed for Porsche distributor Max Hoffman, the 964 America Roadster was built in a limited series of 250 examples between 1992 and 1993.  This unique Cabriolet features the wide fenders, suspension, brakes, and Cup Design wheels the Turbo model paired with the naturally aspirated rear-wheel-drive platform of the Carrera 2.  Purchased by its current owner in July of 2019 with over $7k worth of service carried out since, this America Roadster is now being offered for auction out of Southern California with approximately 38k miles showing on the odometer.

Reported to have been professionally refinished in its factory Black (L700) color during May of 2019, the paint on this 964 is said to be in excellent overall condition with only minimal signs of road-going wear (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). The America Roadster incorporates the retractable soft top and smooth rear decklid of the Carrera 2 Cabriolet with the wide fenders of the Turbo model, providing for an aggressive yet understated look.  The Cabriolet top has been recently replaced and the matching boot cover is included as well.  This Cabriolet rides on replica 17” Cup-style wheels that are currently dressed in healthy Sumitomo tires.

Inside, this 964 features a beautifully presented black partial leather interior with an 8-way power-adjustable driver's seat.  The rear seats were omitted from the America Roadster in favor of a luggage compartment and this example has been equipped with stainless steel pedal covers and an aftermarket Alpine stereo and amplifier.  All gauges and accessories are said to be working properly including the factory air conditioning, power windows, and retractable top.

A naturally aspirated 3.6 L flat-six engine sends 247 HP and 228 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a G50 5-speed manual transmission.  The upgraded suspension of the Turbo model was equipped for the America Roadster along with the Turbo’s larger brakes with cross-drilled rotors.  A comprehensive service was recently carried out under the current ownership at a cost of nearly $7k which included the following items:

  • Electrical Diagnosis
  • Inspection
  • Wiring Harness Repair
  • Remove and Repair Clock
  • New Brake Lines
  • Brake Fluid Flush
  • New Fuel Lines
  • Chain Cover Gasket Set
  • Power Steering O-Rings
  • Seal for Power Steering Drive
  • Air Filter
  • Crankshaft Seal
  • Fuel Pressure Regulator
  • New Battery

This sale will include a toolkit, spare tire, boot cover, and a clean title.  For any enthusiast in search of a truly special air-cooled 911, this rare and well-presented 964 America Roadster is not to be missed.

    Was the car repainted?

  • drbruno (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Italus2 I’m not too interested In the Roadster any longer. Nice car, but I am not a fan of black on black or black cars in general

  • drbruno (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Mezgerman Hi. May want to? Interested in my 328?

@Italus2 apologies for my confusion about the maintenance records. I was not able to identify the repairs referenced in the listing from what was legible and made a bad assumption. Thanks.

  • Italus2 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@911dudette Those records are not from prior ownership, they are mine with my name on it.
    Every one of them. Thanks

  • 911dudette (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

italus2, thanks for posting the records. From what I am able to read, those posted are from prior ownership, although I was hoping to see detail of the more recent work you have performed that was referenced in the listing (e.g. Electrical Diagnosis, Wiring Harness Repair, New Brake Lines, New Fuel Lines, Chain Cover Gasket Set, Crankshaft Seal, Fuel Pressure Regulator. etc.). Apologies for not being clearer. Thanks.

  • Italus2 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@911dudette PCM just loaded some additional pictures of service etc.

  • Italus2 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Bondtrader I asked the mechanic to make sure the car was as perfect as new because I like my cars that way and some lines were not in perfect shape so I asked to have them changed. I'm very anal with cars and their condition.

  • Italus2 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Tierod There was no water damage ever to my knowledge and in the opinion of my Porsche mechanic.

  • Italus2 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@911dudette I bought the car from the dealer in New Jersey in 2019 and the cat is titled in California where I live. I will download some pictures for you ASAP.

  • 911dudette (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Italus2, are you able to post photos of the recent maintenance records? Also, would you mind clarifying the title/ownership status? Carfax shows the most recent title date of 2013 and issued in CO. The vehicle is then shown listed for sale in NJ in 2019 by a dealer. Your reference above about the dealer where you bought the car seems to infer it was purchased more recently, perhaps by the dealer in NJ who appears to have had the car painted in 2019 shortly after they listed it for sale (see BaT). However, there is no title shown to be issued since 2013 in CO. Have you owned the car since 2013 and the car is under CO title? Thank you.

@Bondtrader Water damage is the only reason

  • Bondtrader (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

I wonder why the brake and fuel lines replaced. Seems unusual.

  • 911dudette (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

I could be incorrect but believe this vehicle was listed in BaT in June of 2019. A review of that listing may be helpful in answering some of the questions about the repaint and wheels. Been looking for an America Roadster for a while...

  • 993David (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

I have this cars twin and previously had an 89 speedster. The 3.6 is a big upgrade over the 3.2 in the speedster. Wide body, bigger brakes and better suspension make a huge difference. Also, the AR is the only way to get a wide body 964 convertible. 964 speedsters are narrow body. They are great cars. Think of it as a better driving and faster speedster. Whoever gets this is going to be very happy. GLWTS!

  • Dare (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Dare You can always take one off and look for a 964/965 Porsche part no. You will probably not find one, but the Mille Miglia manufacturers name for the Cup 1 copies

  • Italus2 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Dare The dealer where I bought the car told me they were the original and from all my research they checked out but you may have more knowledge than I do. Thanks

  • Warner (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

    Beautiful ??

  • Dare (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

These are not the original wheels. Originals have the offset and wheel width numbers (for example 8/52) next to the valve stem.

  • Italus2 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@JNasty also, the repaint was partial for nicks and scratches. The car has never been hit.

  • Italus2 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@drbruno I like your car but I have too many cars already. Thanks

  • drbruno (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Want to trade for a perfect 1988.5 Ferrari 328 gts? Red on black.

  • Italus2 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

    Hi JNasty,
Those are the original wheels. I have the receipts of all the work I did. The car runs like new.

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Italus2 - hello, lovely car. Says "cup style" wheels? Not OEM? Why the repaint? Thanks! Have receipts for all work?

  • Italus2 (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago
