Up for auction is this 1992 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet finished in Grand Prix White over a black partial leather interior.  Equipped with a 3.6 L flat-six engine, a G50 5-speed manual gearbox, and an all-wheel-drive system derived from the legendary 959 supercar, this 964 Cabriolet is an excellent choice for any air-cooled enthusiast.  Showing just over 62k miles on the odometer and remaining true to its factory specifications, this 964 is now being offered for auction by its seller in North Carolina.

This Carrera 4 is finished in Grand Prix White and the condition of the paint is depicted in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX.  A new soft top is said to have been recently installed along with the refurbishment of the cabriolet mechanism with new cables and gears.  This 1992 example features updated aero mirrors and restored 17” Cup design wheels that are said to come dressed in nearly brand-new tires.

The black partial leather interior has been kept in excellent highly original condition with a period-correct Blaupunkt Stuttgart radio installed.  Factory options consist of automatic speed control and an amplifier.  Recent refurbishment includes new lights for the trunk, interior, and engine compartment, cleaning of the climate control module, and re-covering of the rear seats.

An air-cooled 3.6 L flat-six engine sends 247 HP to all four wheels by way of a G50 5-speed manual transmission.  The seller reports that the distributor has been rebuilt and that the battery has been recently replaced along with the alternator, brake pads, and rotors within the last 1k miles.

This Carrera 4 will be accompanied by a clean title.  A truly well-preserved example of the sought-after 964 generation, this 1992 Cabriolet is ready to be enjoyed by a new caretaker.

Either way, Very well sold and as long as buyer is happy that’s all that matters.

Highest bid price for a 964 Cab in the last 5 months between two popular auction sites was $48,500 for an 18,000 mile C2. This 62,000 mile C4 with missing back seats and no top boot sells higher? You’ll have to pardon my skepticism.

@Tomato I had every intention to bid, so please don’t comment on that which you couldn’t possibly know. I was just making a general comment about the sensitivity regarding the peanut gallery pointing out flaws of a particular vehicle. The seller has a right to sell wherever he/she chooses. This forum is what it is, and as a potential buyer I like multiple sets of eyes on the car. To your point about wasting the seller’s time, you can see that not a lot of time or effort has been paid to the questions here.......which leads me to the seller not wasting potential buyer’s time if they are not willing to participate or set a realistic reserve. The $55k asking price on the seller’s website suggests that this car will go unsold with an unrealistic DT buy it now.

@Pnut964 As a previous 2 time auction seller, I think there is something to be said for not taking up another person’s valuable time (when not intending in the slightest to bid) bombarding them with so many comments/questions (some of which could be presented more respectfully to the seller). I am guessing persons bidding are sailboat buddies who brought along the expert? Fromage Suisse logic

Hi Seller- Do you own the car or is it on consignment? What service records are available? What material was used when the rear seats were recovered? Does it properly match the front seats? Any corrosion on the car?

  • MC-Leather (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@LKNAutoExchange Great, thank you. Does everything work, heat, A/C , stereo and such?

  • LKNAutoExchange (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@MC-Leather The rear spoiler was being moved by the photographer. Does indeed work properly with no issues. There are no oil leaks. We will be posting a video and pictures of the undercarriage in the AM. We do have the service records from the current owner.

  • LKNAutoExchange (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Pnut964 The car will have a boot included with sale.

  • Pnut964 (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@LKNAutoExchange Auction ends tomorrow. Can we get some answers to questions please?

  • LKNAutoExchange (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Pnut964 Original seats are currently no with the car.

  • MC-Leather (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

This car looks great in white. A few questions for you. In a few shots the spoiler is half way up, does it work normally? Does the car have any fluid leaks, how dry is the underside? Any service records/history? Thanks!!

  • Pnut964 (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Seller, Is the boot for the top included? Never got a response to that question.

@Markthom67 It’s downright laughable to suggest a person shouldn’t comment on a car that they don’t plan on bidding on. This open forum for vetting cars is the reason good cars tend to bring top of market prices in these formats. It gives buyers a sense of ease to know that there are many sets of eyes evaluating the condition of a vehicle they may be interested in. Likewise, some cars that aren’t quite up to snuff get outed and surely save potential buyers from a poor buying experience. By your logic if I want to go buy a used sailboat, I could bring my buddy who is an expert on sailboats.......but he isn’t allowed to comment or point out issues with the boat. The issue that @springer3 pointed out is a legit issue and very common with these cars. Whether or not there’s “Too much of that here” is completely irrelevant. If the seller takes umbrage to those questions they are selling in the wrong place.

  • Pnut964 (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@LKNAutoExchange Are you saying that a perfectly good top was replaced because Porsche recommends it in their service intervals?

  • Pnut964 (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@LKNAutoExchange Did the owner misplace the rear seat backs or are they included? Is this consignment or do you own the vehicle?

  • LKNAutoExchange (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Pnut964 Porsche recommends soft top replacement every 10 years and this one was replaced with an OEM top. Previous owner deleted rear seats (by preference) new seat bottoms were installed same time as new top was done.

  • LKNAutoExchange (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Pnut964 The 911 currently has 62,775 miles, photos were taken Sept of 2020

  • LKNAutoExchange (seller) 3 years, 2 monthsago

There is minor paint blister on the front cowl (all original paint) which will properly be repaired prior to final delivery at no charge to the purchaser.

  • Pnut964 (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Odometer shows 62,775 but listing says 62,214. Is car continuing to be driven while auction in progress? What is actual current mileage as of today?

  • Pnut964 (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Seller, also might I ask why a car in this condition with this mileage required a new top and rear seat cushions recovered? It’s pretty unusual for rear seats in these cars to get worn out. Was there some damage or an incident that prompted the replacement of these parts?

  • Pnut964 (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Seller, Where are the seat backrests for the rear seats? Also, is the cabriolet boot cover included to keep the top secure while driving?

  • springer3 (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@Markthom67 Cash bidder and put in a $95,000 bid recently and got outbid at $105,000, so it was a serious bid. I like your car but not if rust is blistering from behind the cowl.

Can you please answer the question?

  • Markthom67 (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

@springer3 are you a bidder or just here to pick out negatives. Too much of that here

  • springer3 (registered bidder) 3 years, 2 monthsago

Is that a rust blister in the closeup shot showing the cowl and the windshield? If yes, was anything done to remove the rust and passivate the rust pit before the touch up paint was applied? Beautiful car otherwise. GLWS.
