We are pleased to present this 1992 Porsche 964 Carrera RS finished in Amethyst Metallic over a lightweight black interior with multicolor hardback sport seats.  Often regarded as one of the greatest Porsche 911’s of all time, the 964 Carrera RS made its debut as a lightweight, track oriented-version of the Carrera 2, devoid of any heavy or unnecessary equipment.  Finished in the rare color of Amethyst Metallic, this example is reported to have been delivered new in Belgium where it is said to have remained before making its way to the U.K. in 2001, and then eventually the U.S. in 2019.   With some major service recently carried out by a reputable specialist, this 964 RS makes the perfect high-quality driver with any passionate enthusiast.  It is now being offered by its seller in Massachusetts accompanied by historical documentation and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.

The rarely seen Amethyst Metallic paint on this 964 is reported to be in superb condition with some areas professionally refinished to maintain excellent cosmetic standards.  A collection of detailed images is provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings.  The RS shares the body of the standard Carrera 2 but with subtle revisions including a sunroof delete, lightweight magnesium Cup 1 wheels, and clear lens inserts for the front fog light cutouts.  European side marker lights are also standard on the RS along with an aluminum front bonnet.

The lightweight design of the RS is most evident in the cabin.  The black interior features lightweight carpeting, an air conditioning and radio delete, a rear seat delete, thinner glass, basic door panels with pull straps, manually operated windows, and hardback Recaro sport bucket seats with centers upholstered in Rubystone, Aubergine, and Grey Violet leather. Records show that the original odometer was replaced with an MPH unit in 2006 before the original odometer was reinstalled in 2009.  Today, the car is said to have covered approximately 44,700 miles.  It is worth noting that the odometer was removed in 2005 at 38,355km for repair before a replacement MPH unit was installed and used for just under 9,300 miles. The original odometer was repaired and re-fitted in 2009 as is documented in providing correspondence from the previous owner. The current reading shows 57,111 (35487 miles).

Power comes from a type M64/03 3.6L engine which is a revised version of the flat-six found in the standard Carrera 2.  260 HP is delivered to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed G50/10 manual transmission which offers closer gear ratios, steel synchros, and a limited slip differential.  Other unique performance features include standard rack and pinion steering, stiffer engine mounts, and a stiffer track-oriented suspension setup with lowered ride height and adjustable stabilizer bars.  A full engine rebuild is said to have been performed in 2013 at 50k kilometers and a comprehensive service was recently carried out at European Performance Engineering. This RS is said to drive beautifully with service documentation dating back to new.  Invoices from the recent service are provided for reference in the photo gallery along with a previous owner's service history breakdown.

This sale will include a set of 2 keys, the original warranty card, the original maintenance booklet, service records, U.K. MOT certificates, and a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.  If you are a passionate driver in search of the ultimate air-cooled experience, this stunning Amethyst Metallic RS makes the perfect choice.

@azcobra I apologize for the confusion in the response, something amiss with the syntax on these responses when a paragraph break is included, and no way to edit.

The tires are from mid-2016, with the exception of the right rear which is 2018 (that specific replacement noted in the work orders). I do not have a specific record of valve adjustment.

@azcobra the tires are dated from mid-2016 with the exception of the left rear, which is 2018 (replacement noted in the EPE work order). Valve adjustment, I have no specific record.

Adam -- thank you for the response-- not the response i was expecting—With all due respect, as the seller this should be something that you should manage not the buyers.... It is of great concern that the expert servicing the car is servicing and charging for power steering inspection and service and topping up when there is no power steering...I certainly puts in question the service records (I feel this could hurt the car if it goes unanswered)?  I think any of us would want to know --

  • azcobra (registered bidder) 3 years, 4 monthsago

    Thank you Adam,
    Your answer is very clear.
    3 final questions
What are the dates on the tires? -
I see that engine was said to be rebuilt 7 years ago ... When was the last valve adjustment done?
The car has aftermarket suspension etc - Are the original components that were removed included in the sale? Or available?
    Thank you-

  • copleymotorcars (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@daveallan the EPE invoices presented here document the most recent servicing that the car has had. Regarding power steering, you correctly state that an RS would not have power steering and this is no exception. Specific questions about the work orders could be directed to Jerry Pellegrino at EPE.

I’m looking for the right RS, would like to clarify service records showing “check for leaks, low power steering fluid level ......... RS’s don’t have power steering, Please clarify?

This car had an engine out service 7 years ago, please clarify when the last major was done since then? Ie. re seal, valve adjustment etc.

Good morning PCARMARKET on this exciting final day of auction for the lovely Amethyst RS. I'll answer the recent flurry of activity below:

@RS136 there are no records of the paintwork. We can deduce that it was performed in the UK at some time 10-15 years ago, and to a very high standard (it appears that all rubber seals, glass, etc was removed for the process).

@azcobra Porsche has changed their "CoA" process in the past few years and no longer quotes engine number as part of the "Production Specifications" certificate. The only way to have a Porsche-verified engine number is to submit the vehicle for true certification with the Porsche Classic center, akin to the Ferrari Classiche program for those familiar. We do however, have the engine and gearbox numbers verified from the letter from Porsche Cars Great Britain, dated January 24 2019. This confirms that the car is in fact, fully matching numbers.

@aberas2529 "radio delete" is the correct/factory configuration for this RS. It did at one time have a basic radio with speakers added. The radio has since been removed with the proper blanking plate in place. The door speakers do remain.

Thank you all for the interest and best of luck to our bidders today.

@copleymotorcars Perfect color choices on a legendary model! Noticed the radio delete, which is perfect for the character of this car; but was this car ever optioned with one considering the presence of door speakers? Thank you!

    Good day Adam,
I noticed that on the “C of A” provided in the gallery, it does not show the Engine Number/Type nor the Transmission Number/Type. It only shows Type. I have never seen “Number” omitted on the Porsche CofA for the 1992 Model for the RS nor any Cof A that I have seen. (I have definitely not seen them all). My question is: Is this RS being represented as a numbers matching ( original engine and transmission car)? I am only asking this question since I spent much time on your website and other sites reading about this exact car and seeing very specifically the description saying that this RS is all matching numbers, but your description here does not mention anything about numbers matching nor is it on the CofA. This car looks quite nice and I am interested in this car, but confused on this issue. May I humbly ask you to clear up this confusion for me. Thank you in advance!

Do you have any receipts for paint and body work.

  • copleymotorcars (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@atlrvr correct, not federalized as it was imported under 25 year exemption. Today with a clean Massachusetts title transferable to 50 states (CA smog / CARB not withstanding). Wheels, believed original. Adam

Beautiful RS. Couple of questions. Are those still the magnesium wheels? Any chance the MPH speedo is still around/included? When was it imported, I'm assuming post 25 year exclusion, and has not been federalized.

  • copleymotorcars (seller) 3 years, 4 monthsago

@WT036915 there are for sure California registered RS out there. Likely an expensive process to CARB certify, however. Adam

Could this be registered in CA under show and display??

@91179viz we believe the correct mileage is 44,xxx as documented, and explained in the notes from the previous owner. The condition of the car supports that mileage. Adam

  • 91179viz (registered bidder) 3 years, 5 monthsago

OK. Heard lots of mileage /kilometer numbers. Any idea what the true mileage/kilometers are in total considering the two speedo changes?

Thank you PCARKMARKET for the listing of this terrific 964! While not the ultra-low KM museum piece RS that makes headlines , this example is free of the agony of mileage sensitivity and original paint preservation; ready to be thrown into your nearest S-curves guilt free in third gear, flat six snarling past 5000 rpm, grinning ear to ear. An opportunity to truly experience what is, in my opinion, the best Porsche ever made. Good luck to all bidders. Thank you, Adam Check / Copley Motorcars
