Tracing its roots back to the original 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, the 964 Carrera RS is a lightweight high-performance car born from the Carrera Cup race series. It was produced in limited quantities for the European market featuring a stiffened chassis, shorter gear ratios, unassisted steering, a lightweight interior, a special seam-welded bodyshell, magnesium wheels, and a hand-assembled engine producing 260 HP. This 1992 example is finished in rare Amethyst Metallic paint over a Black interior with multi-tone leather Recaro bucket seats. It was originally delivered in Switzerland and has been cared for by two owners since. Accompanied by its original service booklet showing a history of routine maintenance, this Carrera RS is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Switzerland with approximately 88k kilometers (54k miles) on the odometer.

The Carrera RS variant uses the bodyshell of the standard Carrera 2 with special weight-saving modifications including a sunroof delete, fog light deletes, an aluminum front bonnet, thinner glass windows, and special seam-welded panels. This example is finished in Amethyst Metallic, a rare option for the RS and one of the most desirable colors from Porsche’s current Paint to Sample catalog. It rides on factory lightweight magnesium 17” Cup Design wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The seller indicates the front bumper was previously refinished and all body panels remain original with their factory stampings in place. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The weight-saving interior of the Carrera RS came without rear seats, airbags, air conditioning, a radio, power windows, or sound-deadening material. The basic door panels are without pockets and feature manual window cranks, door lock knobs, and cloth pull straps. A pair of black leather Recaro bucket seats come with purple multi-tone centers and Rubystone Red seatbelts. Accessories include a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel, a heater, a glovebox, a rear window defroster, and a VDO quartz clock. All gauges and accessories are said to remain fully functional.

The Carrera RS is powered by a special version of the 964 Carrera’s 3.6-liter M64 engine featuring hand-selected pistons and cylinders, solid rubber mounts, a lightweight singles mass flywheel, and revised ECU programming. Up to 260 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a close-ratio 5-speed G50 manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. The car borrows its brakes from the 911 Turbo and features unassisted rack and pinion steering. It also includes a lower and stiffer suspension compared with the standard Carrera 2. The seller notes that the original maintenance booklet is included and shows many service entries dating back to the original purchase.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a toolkit, an air pump, a car cover, a battery charger, some documentation, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “We are very pleased to present this 1992 Porsche Carrera RS for sale. This top conditions example was delivered new by AMAG the then Swiss importer of the marque in Switzerland. The car is finished in Amethyst metallic with a three-tone purple interior. The car is supplied with original documents including a service book which shows a very healthy maintenance schedule since 1992. The 964 Carrera RS represents the pinnacle of motoring sports in the 90s, the car was launched in 1992 to homologate the N-GT category for the Carrera Cup program. Amethyst metallic is arguably the most desirable color for the 964 Carrera RS and has shown to be very popular on the recent PTS / Porsche exclusive builds.”

    Thanks guys. And to Dave and James. And to seller. Mild battle with good bidders. I've had four 964 RSs and I keep selling them when someone beats me up with money. I am keeping this one. Buddy in Scottsdale had a N/GT in Amethyst and it was gorgeous in person. I've had Polar Silver, Rubystone, and Maritime Blue - over those. NOW, if a Mint Green comes along, we'll have a real fight. Happy New Year to all.

    We would also like to add that this one of the rare cars to be delivered to the Swiss market by the then official importer for Porsche AMAG AG. The car was delivered by the dealer of the Lausanne region and has remained in the Lausanne region with the same owner from delivery until Spring 2023. The car features the metallic AMAG plaque in the engine bay, with it delivery number.

    @porschegstaad thank you!

  • Porschegstaad (seller) 4 monthsago

    Sorry for late reply, it is dinner time here in Europe and the car is in our garage. As far as we know the car was subject to a respray on the bumper, front hood and rear bumper. The front hood has the original stamping where the light usually is attached and has the original options sticker which has been well preserved by the previous owner. Regarding the underbody, we have submitted pictures, the car is in very good conditions with all original parts, no leaks and still shows the original corrosion protection layer on the metal parts.

    @Porschegstaad Are there any paint meter readings?

  • Porschegstaad (seller) 4 monthsago

    Videos have now been added by the PCar team. The car has just been serviced by an official Porsche service center, has new tyres and is ready to be shipped. Alternatively we can store the car if a buyer wishes to enjoy it in Europe this upcoming spring and then ship it to the US during the summer. A sort of Porsche European delivery experience.

  • Porschegstaad (seller) 4 monthsago

    Thanks for the info, we will check with the PCar team.

  • DocGraham629 (registered bidder) 4 monthsago

    @Porschegstaad Hi

    Where can we find the videos?

    Thank you

  • Porschegstaad (seller) 4 monthsago

    Dear All, we have just uploaded three videos of the car from today. All the best.

  • Porschegstaad (seller) 4 monthsago

    @DocGraham629 @Groundchuck50 no rust car has only been driven during the summer months and has avoided the rain as much as possible

  • DocGraham629 (registered bidder) 4 monthsago

    How’s the rust situation?

  • sixspeed71 (registered bidder) 4 months, 1 weekago

    @porschegstaad Thanks for the information!

  • Porschegstaad (seller) 4 months, 1 weekago

    @sixspeed71 you could get them directly from Porsche Switzerland at the time, they would replace the dummy front fog lights and Chanel air to the brakes. The air channel is on every 964 RS

  • Porschegstaad (seller) 4 months, 1 weekago

    @vintage911racer They were refurbished at some point due to normal fading of the color.

  • sixspeed71 (registered bidder) 4 months, 1 weekago

    I'm curious about the ducts in the front bumper instead of the more commonly seen clear lenses. Does anyone know if these (or any) ducts were original equipment on these cars? Thanks!

  • vintage911racer (registered bidder) 4 months, 1 weekago

    @Porschegstaad Thanks for the wheel pics. Lettering is diminished. Were the wheels repainted or refinished in an alternative manner?
    Thank you very much.

    One of the best driving Porsches and probably the best priced iconic RS out there. These will be 1M cars in the next 5-10 years, maybe sooner.

  • Porschegstaad (seller) 4 months, 1 weekago

    @CWSales Hello, the process is very simple, we recommend shipping by air for such a car and it costs about 15K door to door and takes 4 days.

  • vintage911racer (registered bidder) 4 months, 1 weekago

    Pretty please show close-up photos of the wheels showing the word "magnesium" on the rims. I have blown up all your photos showing the wheels and cannot see the metal molded-in labels.
    Thanks huge.
