Now up for auction is this one-owner 1992 Porsche 968 Cabriolet presented in the rare combination of Cobalt Blue Metallic over Classic Grey. Originally sold from Herb Chambers I-93 in Massachusetts, this 968 had remained under the care of its original owner from new. From the factory, this example was ordered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and the desirable limited slip differential option. Today with approximately 35k miles showing on the odometer, this highly original 968 is being offered for auction by its seller in Massachusetts accompanied by the original books, window sticker, and a clean title.
According to the 968 Registry, this is one of only 27 Cabriolets to have been imported to North America in Cobalt Blue Metallic, and only 5 examples delivered in this particular color combination. Having been garage kept throughout its entire life, the Cobalt Blue Metallic finish is believed to be all original and is described to be in very good condition throughout. The cabriolet top and window were also replaced in recent years, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery. CARFAX shows damage in 2002 which the orignal owner had claimed to be a minor incident in a parking lot that did not require repair. This example rides on factory 16” Cup Design cast alloy wheels that are currently dressed in Pirelli P7000 Super Sport tires.
Inside, the cabin is configured in Classic Grey with partial leather seats. The original Blaupunkt radio remains in place, although the seller reports that it is currently nonfunctional. Factory equipment includes a power operated cabriolet top, a central locking and alarm system, automatic climate control, a 6-speaker stereo system, heated mirrors and washer nozzles, and power windows, mirrors, and seats. The cabin is said to be in excellent original condition aside from some wear depicted on the handbrake lever.
This 968 is equipped with a 3.0 L inline 4-cylinder DOHC engine paired with a 6-speed manual transaxle and factory optioned limited slip differential. Other mechanical features include variable engine valve timing, force-sensitive power steering, power vented disc brakes with ABS, and stabilizer bars front and rear. Regularly scheduled maintenance is said to have been addressed by the original owner including a service in 2018 at 35,297 miles which included a new battery, drive belts, and a new alternator.
This sale will include the original owner’s manuals, window sticker, and a clean title. CARFAX shows two previous owners, and this is said to have resulted from a title transfer from the original owner to his wife. Transaxle Porsches are becoming some of the most increasingly valuable and sought after vintage cars on the market, and this low-mileage 6-speed Cabriolet is no exception.

The alternator and A/C V belt was replaced and power steering V belt was also replaced. Timing belt and Balance belt to my knowledge have not been replaced as I see no documentation stating it has been done.
Any service completed on timing belt ,water pump chain pads or timing chain ?

mbaum, yes I just photographed all Manuel’s, spare tire, spare tire pump, compete tool bag, two light up Porsche keys, one Valet key. I cannot locate tonneau cover. I’m in the process of reaching out to original owner to see if he has it tucked away in his garage. I will let you know as soon as I hear back. Hopefully the photos will be uploaded shortly.
@RGiller3401 - Do you mind listing what the car comes with? I see the owner's manual in the pics and mentioned in the text. I assume it also comes with spare, tools, tire pump, tonneau cover for the lowered top, etc.? Anything missing from all the original documents and accessories? - Thanks.
@stryker14 I would characterize it as blowing cool the fan has all speeds and the compressor is definitely kicking in. That is why the technician felt it could need a recharge and recommended an inspection after the recharge to check for any possible leak. It is definitely cool but not ice cold.
@RGiller3401 thanks Bobby, for the undercarriage pictures. Question, You say the a-c appears operational but needs a recharge. So what makes it appear operational? Is it blowing cold and is the compressor is kicking in? Thanks.
@stryker14 the under carriage photos and service invoices are now posted at the end of the gallery. The odometer is functioning properly. The alternator and A/C V belt was replaced and power steering V belt was also replaced. Timing belt and Balance belt to my knowledge have not been replaced as I see no documentation stating it has been done. All fluid levels were checked and are fine. The A/C has been converted to R134 and is operational , may require a recharge and inspection as stated in recent inspection. All electrical items, power windows, power convertible top, power pop up headlights are all functioning properly. The original radio as stated in the description is currently inop.
@msa615 as stated in the description the Title is a clean Massachusetts Title. If you also check the CarFax at the end of the gallery the last line item date 11/1/2020 lists the Massachusetts renewal and also Title number.

Hi @stryker14 I apologize for the delayed response your comments came over late last evening where your one hour behind us. As for your questions, the odometer is functioning correctly. The previous owner was an older gentleman and this was not his primary vehicle and was not driven in the winter months. He drove it very sparingly. The vehicle had a multi point inspection completed this afternoon and both the invoice from today and from 5/12/2018 along with under carriage photos will be uploaded shortly. Hopefully those will answer your questions.

Nice car and I love the color. I’ve owned three 968s. Love em. I’ve got to ask some questions about this one:
1. It’s only logged about a 1000 miles in eight years. Looks like it sat for years at a time. Any explanation? Is the odometer working? The odometergears go bad on every 944,928 and 968 at some point.
2. You say the drive belts were changes in 2018. So was that the timing belt and balance belts or just the a/c and alternator belts? If not the timing and balance belts, then those would need to be changed immediately by the buyer.....along with the tires.
3. What fluids were replaced in 2018?
4. Does the A/c work correctly? Has it been converted to r134? I live in Houston and a/c is a must.
5. Any undercarriage pictures available? Any leaks?
6. Do all the electrical items function correctly? Windows? Pop up lights? Electric top motors?

@manuals4ever I agree about the tires but they are 20 years old. No tire shop will service tires that old (at least where I alive). I do understand keeping the originality but not for enthusiastic driving. GLWTA.

I will reach out directly on a possible visit. As far as the tires, I personally wouldn't drive very far on 10 year old tires, especially any kind of enthusiastic driving.

Hi @manuels4ever, you are absolutely invited to come view and drive this awesome 968. My only request is that you direct message me to set up a time to visit. As far as the minor damage that occurred. The vehicle was actually at the IRA Porsche Dealership in Danvers Massachusetts for maintenance and one of the technicians tapped the rear bumper not causing any damage but the dealership felt obligated to document the incident for liability reasons. The tires are date stamped 2401. They are from 2001 and are in excellent condition. There is no dry rot and they run and drive fantastic. The tires passed Massachusetts State inspection October of 2020 and the inspection sticker is valid through October 2021. I hope this was helpful and thank you for your interest.
