This non-sunroof 1992 Porsche 968 Coupe comes finished in the iconic shade of Rubystone Red over black partial leather upholstery with desirable Porsche-script cloth seat inserts. It was sold new in Japan and shipped to Oman where it was professionally maintained as part of The Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said Al Said's private collection. It was next owned by Matar Ali AlObaidani, Commander of the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO), before it was purchased by the seller and shipped to Kuwait in September 2021. This very well-appointed 968 was recently imported to the U.S. and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Pennsylvania with approximately 26k kilometers (16k miles) on the odometer.

The body of the 968 is heavily adopted from its predecessor, the 944 S2, and features a modernized front end that reflects the design language of the 993 model. This example is finished in Rubystone Red, a sought-after 1990s Porsche color offered on the 968 for the 1992 model year only. Equipment includes pop-up headlights, a glass rear hatch with an integrated spoiler, aero mirrors, painted side skirts, Japanese-spec clear reversing lamps, and 16" 5-spoke wheels dressed in Pirelli P7 tires from 2020. The set of original 17" Cup Design wheels is also included with the sale. The seller notes the front bumper was refinished to repair a paint chip and door dents were professionally removed on the driver's side. Additional images arrived in the gallery.

The cabin is appointed with black partial leather upholstery complemented by Porsche-script cloth seat inserts. Equipment includes power-adjustable seats, power windows and mirrors, automatic speed control, a center console-mounted analog clock, a digital temperature display, and air conditioning. As a Japanese market example, features include enlarged seat bottoms and an (EX) dashboard warning light that illuminates when the exhaust is hot. The seller adds that an aftermarket Continental TR742UB-OR stereo has been installed along with Sparco pedal covers. All gauges and accessories are reported to be working properly.

This 968 is equipped with a 3.0-liter inline-four DOHC engine with 4-valves-per-cylinder and VarioCam variable valve timing. As much as 236 HP and 225 lb.-ft of torque is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transaxle. The seller states that this car was meticulously maintained by in-house technicians as part of the two previous owners' collections and there are currently no outstanding service items.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, and additional OEM Porsche parts.

The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for visiting my auction. I have owned this car for over 4 years and took care of every single detail in the car. A set of 17" Cup wheels is included to give the buyer the option to change from time to time. The car is completely stock and ready to have a new home.”

@jeff968 Hello Jeff, there was no mizwa sticker when I bought the car, maybe they removed it when applying the v-kool tint. I don't know if the country equipment code (C08 Japan) can tell us through which dealer the car was sold. Yes, the rear spoiler as you mentioned came black from the factory as the code (596) indicates but I bought it like that didn't change the spoiler color when repainted the front bumper.

  • jeff968 5 months, 3 weeksago

@MMR55 Mizwa was the sole importer of 968s in Japan back when they were new. There is usually a sticker on the rear hatch glass. I'm not sure if anyone has access to their information. Maybe the Porsche club of Japan? Speaking of paint, we can also see the rear spoiler has been painted body-color since it the car was sold new (Code 596 indicates the standard matt black spoiler). Maybe this was done at the time of the front bumper repair?

@J4177 Hey, unfortunately I don't have a paint meter readings, the other work documents are with the car i didn't scanned them.

Yes, the original export document from Oman to Kuwait is available, the commander is the exporter.

There's no documents from it's original sale in Japan except the General information on the document uploaded from the Porsche dealer,
the second owner (the commander) mentioned that The Sultan bought it new from Japan but couldn't get any documents.

I owned the car since 2019 but exported it officially to Kuwait in 2021, the sale documents are with the export papers translated to English. (Certified Translation)

Please, feel free to let me know if you require any further information.

  • J4177 (registered bidder) 5 months, 3 weeksago

@MMR55 hello seller. Can you upload paint meter readings and the documentation you do have of work performed?

Is there documentation that the Sultan and Commander owned it? Is there documentation of its original sale in Japan?

Lastly, you mention you have owned the car for 4 years but the description states a September 2021 sale—documentation for this too?

    Thanks

  • MMR55 (seller) 5 months, 3 weeksago

@Peloton25 I personally not close to the storage and would prefer to show the car as it is.

  • MMR55 (seller) 5 months, 3 weeksago

@Peloton25 There are no documents specifically stating that the timing belt was replaced as mentioned before, all services and maintenance were done by private staff inside a military base.

The vehicle has been stored in a temperature controlled garage since arrival to the United States.

Note: The car was purchased in Sept. 2021 with 21,000km (13k miles) on it, the car is in great condition and I haven't have any problems with the car.

Please, feel free to let me know if you require any further information.

  • Peloton25 5 months, 3 weeksago

@MMR55 so, any word on the timing belt?

Also, why leave those stickers on the wheels? 🤔

  • Gt3Eagle (registered bidder) 5 months, 3 weeksago

@jeff968 do you have access to data on all the cars built in different years? I have a 2021 Targa 4 in Carrera white and have been trying to find out how many others were sold in the states? Seems like Porsche sold very few preferring to sell the Targa 4S or GTS rather than the Targa 4 base model.

    (2) serious refurbishment (the low miles would merit that treatment.)
For now, it's a "diamond in the rough."

  • Glickster 5 months, 3 weeksago

There's a lot to like about this car: low miles, sunroof delete, rare color, extra wheels. As presented here you could go a couple of ways: (1) daily driver; (2)

  • MMR55 (seller) 5 months, 3 weeksago

@uscarrera Yes, the car is titled and registered.
The red and blue stickers on the wheels and winshield are airlines cargo stickers for security and x-ray check.
the car was shipped from Kuwait to NY with Kuwait Airways.

    Thanks for your questions.

Please note that the Winshield is Factory Original never been replaced since 1992 and doesn't have any chips/cracks.

  • uscarrera (registered bidder) 5 months, 3 weeksago

Sorry if I missed this but is car registered and titled in Pa? What is the red band around each rim?
    Thanks

@jeff968 Hi Jeff, The German Rubystone Red 968 was sold to a gentleman in France who owns it now. I had extensive files on the car going all the way back to Japan. I was in touch with the German owner who was a salesman for Munich Porsche. I really wanted the car but personal circumstances at the time which arose, stopped me from pulling the trigger on it.

  • jeff968 5 months, 3 weeksago

@Roeser33 Sorry I wasn't clearer. 3 Rubystone coupes for North America one of which was totaled and parted 20 years ago leaving 2. My ROW database is currently being built but so far I have 4 Rubystone coupes, 3 Japan, 1 German.

  • Roeser33 5 months, 3 weeksago

@jeff968 always appreciate your insight into these cars. Is that 3 for the World in Ruby? I know of 2 in Japan, both coupes.

Also, car has non stock suspension? Lowering springs?

  • jeff968 5 months, 3 weeksago

Rubystone is such a great looking color on the 968. Only 3 coupes were produced in this color so it will be great to have another one to view in the USA. As per the option spec sheet, this car was originally equipped (and still wears) the standard code 402 16" Cup wheels. Another point to note, this car does NOT have the code 454 speed control as is indicated in the description. The cruise control until would be under the rear cover but we can see the cable that runs through the fuel rail is not there. Also, no 454 on the spec sheet. GLWS.

Since it’s not on your list, is there any record of the timing belt ever being replaced or is it a ticking time-bomb at this point?

Obviously it hasn’t reached the suggested mileage interval but the age of the belt would be a huge concern in this interference engine.

Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.

@GrandNatty There's a full document file comes with the car on the things been done to it/parts replaced, i will try to mention the main work:

    -Changed all fluids.
    -Replaced engine mounts.
-Changed one of the two Radiator fans.
    -Fuel tank cleaned.
    -Wheels Alignments and New tires.
-Lights and electric check been done, bulbs replaced.

All parts replaced are GENUINE PORSCHE parts.

Please note that the car is at its original condition, never been touched, it was sitting in an indoor military base for more than 6 years maintained and serviced inside the base for security and safety reasons, the first two owners of the Vehicle are a highly ranked government officials as its mentioned.

Please, feel free to let me know if you require any further information.

New photos will be uploaded soon.

  • MMR55 (seller) 5 months, 4 weeksago

@GrandNatty Sure will work on it, 17" Cup 1.

  • Roeser33 5 months, 4 weeksago

Having owned multiple 968’s, they are great cars! Better all around power band than same era 911s and Uber predictable driving characteristics. That said, Rubystone, Mint Green, Riviera… the halo 911 colors are also the halo colors for the 968. As all these pastel colors come into standard production in 91’ (tail end of 944S2)

This car from the pictures most likely would need a significant amount of money to showcase and match its mileage. All the body seals, undercarriage, corrosion areas need addressing. That’s cosmetic, in regards to mechanicals? That’s the next step…

  • GrandNatty (registered bidder) 5 months, 4 weeksago

@MMR55 - can you post please 1) any records on services over your 4 years of ownership and 2) photos of the 17" cup (which wheels are on the option sticker BTW?)?
