We are pleased to introduce this beautifully-executed 1993 Porsche 964 RS America built by Rothsport Racing who is recognized as the engine builder for iconic company's such as Gunther Werks and Emory Motorsports.  Starting life out as one of only 701 factory examples, this RS America has undergone over $200k worth of performance upgrades including a race-spec 3.9L engine build along with a full carbon fiber RSR body conversion, making this a true one-of-one example.  Now standing as a purpose built, street-legal racecar, this 1993 RS America is being offered for auction bearing only one half-hour of use on its freshly rebuilt engine.

This RS America has been professionally refinished in White.  In order to achieve maximum weight savings, all exterior panels have been replaced with carbon fiber components with the exception of the roof.  Aero features including a large front splitter and fixed rear wing have been installed to maximize downforce.  Track-oriented safety components have also been installed including hood pins, front tow strap and a cut-off switch.  This 964 rides on a set of custom built 3-piece Fiske wheels.  An additional set of identical Fiske wheels will be included in-sale.

Inside, the driver is situated in a performance-oriented cockpit.  An upgraded Autometer Pro-comp 2 tachometer has been installed along with a Momo Sport steering wheel, Rennline pedal set, billet short shifter assembly and a Recaro SPG racing seat with 6-point Schroth Profi harness.  The seller indicates that all critical gauges and electrical components remain fully functional.

This 964’s flat-six engine has been completely rebuilt and bored out to a 3.9L displacement by legendary engine builder Jeff Gamroth of Rothsport Racing.  This car delivers 436 HP (84% more HP than a stock 964 RS America) to the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission with a triple-disc carbon clutch.  Redline for this air-cooled masterpiece sits at a stratospheric 8,000 RPMs with peak power not being reached until 7,600 RPMs. (See dyno graph below).

Weighing in at a mere 2300 lbs., this RS achieves an astonishing power to weight ratio even by modern standards.  An upgraded Heim-Joint suspension has been outfitted resulting in unprecedented handling and composure while underway.  Highlighting over $45k worth of newly completed mechanical work, this 964’s flat-six engine has undergone a recent full rebuild and shows about ½ hour of run time per the new hour meter.  An extensive collection of invoices and build records will be provided in the photo gallery.

After the widespread success of the 964 Carrera RS in the European market, 911 enthusiasts in the USA demanded a lightweight, no-frills 964 model of their own.  With the guidance of racing legend Vic Elford, Porsche set out to satisfy this demand by creating a track oriented, lightweight car based on the Carrera 2 which would be dubbed “RS America”.  This vehicle would serve as the perfect platform for a competitive racer and accordingly, many have been converted to full GT race cars.

The sale of this RS America will include a master key, an extra set of wheels, all factory books, and service records documenting the entire build.  This is an incredible opportunity to own a masterfully-built racecar that can be enjoyed on the street.

@Racerrs it truly is a one of one machine. 991 Cup car fast with an air-cooled motor that revs to 8,000. It doesn’t get better than that.

Just curious, what state do you live in?

** RESERVE REMOVED at 11:55am PST**

In full transparency, while I am hoping to sell this car for somewhere north of $150,000 ... and it’s worth double that ... I have had my reserve set at $140,000. However, I have decided to remove my reserve completely SO ONE OF YOU LUCKY BIDDERS IS GOING TO OWN THIS WONDERFUL MACHINE TODAY!

  • dawgfan1214 (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

For clarity sake I wanted to let you all know that the car will also come with an exact duplicate second set of wheels, that have never been used and are still in the boxes, as well as the car’s original doors.

Although the buyer will arrange and pay for shipping, I am happy to help in any way possible to make that a seamless and easy process.

And, as an added bonus, if the buyer is within a 200 mile radius of Tacoma, WA I will personally deliver the car at no extra cost.

  • dawgfan1214 (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

Also, this evening I took 7 pics of the underside so you could see the motor. I have asked PCAR to post them this evening so keep an eye out for those.

Also, to the individual who noticed the slight overspray on the roll bar, I took some additional pictures of that as well. There are three spots that must not have been masked off very well when they sprayed the interior white. Clearly it’s no big deal but I wanted to show you what I found.

  • dawgfan1214 (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@trlbms that’s interesting. I guess I never really paid that close of attention to that. And to me I didn’t care because I never wanted to have a passenger with me in that car on track. It’s a full on race car, even though it’s street legal. When I bought the car from the individual who built it it only had one seat in it. So unfortunately I don’t have another seat. But it would be easy to buy two matching seats and another set of belts and install them. Yes, I drove it on track with the previous motor it was absolutely spectacular. Since the motor has been redone I have only driven it on the street to test it out when I picked it up at Rothsport. No track time in the new motor. And less than one hour on it total.

  • trlbms (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

On one of the early invoices for the interior parts it lists two seats, 2 seat belt sets, etc.
Do these come with the car? You drove it before the engine rebuild?

  • dawgfan1214 (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@skimaker I wanted to let you know that new photos of how the license plate attaches, as well as the actual license plate itself, have been added to the photo log.

  • dawgfan1214 (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@trlbms it does indeed have a six speed and you’re right that would have come from a 993. I do not have the original gearbox. The only original parts I have for the car are both doors with full glass, as well as the rear wing windows.

  • trlbms (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

Do any of the original RSA parts come with the car? The original gear box that came with the car would be a 5 speed. The write up says it has a 6 speed gear box that would have come from a 993. Please verify that it has a 6 speed.

@Racerrs No it does not leak oil. Not a drop. They saw that as they were finishing the build and fixed it.

I don’t have any underside photos but I’ll take some tomorrow.

I’m sorry I don’t know what type of fuel injection. I just know it’s whatever Gamroth, in his genius, decided was best.

It does not need a single thing. Absolutely nothing.

Lastly, yes, the miles are accurate.

Please let me know if you want any more info. To be clear, the cost to build this car today would be well over $300,000. And honestly, once you drive it, you understand it’s worth that.

  • Racerrs (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

@dawgfan1214 , thank you. Does the engine still leak oil, I noticed that mechanic comment? Do you have any underside photos? It looks like manual fuel injection, is that correct. Is there anything that you know of that is needed? Are the miles accurate on the car? Thx

  • dawgfan1214 (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@Garage5 Good eye. It does appear to be some overspray, though I must confess I have never noticed that. I will go back and get a couple more pictures of that area to confirm.

  • Garage5 (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

@dawgfan1214 It was picture 32/70 corner where the wiring harness iss, thanks for the response!

  • dawgfan1214 (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@skimaker Wow, wouldn’t that be quite the combination. To have one stock and then to have it’s brother, which could arguably be the best built 964 track car in the world — and I’m not exaggerating — would be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Yes, the car is absolutely street legal and I do have a current license plate. It is not permanently affixed to the car but is inside of a rubberized plate holder that you hang from under the rear deck lid. Takes one second to put on or take off.

And yes, it could easily add a passenger seat. All you’d need is the seat.

    GLWB.

  • dawgfan1214 (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@Garage5 Thanks for your question. After the car was stripped, they cleaned it up and painted the entire interior white ... as is the case with most race car builds ... unless they come from the factory originally as a race car. I have never noticed any overspray on the bar but it’s possible I may have missed it. If it’s there it isn’t anything very noticeable.

There is no damage to the car at all. There are, however, still some rubber marks from track time that I did not completely clean off. :)

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

  • dawgfan1214 (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@Racerrs I was not the original builder of this car and do not see any receipts for roll cage. It was however built by a local friend of mine. I bought it from him and everything was in top shape except the motor was tired so I decided to build the best new one possible by Jeff Gamroth at Rothsport before I listed it. That is the only item I have performed on this car.

I reference all the suspension questions in my previous reply to @Porschecarl so please see those for info

No one has ever raced the car. It was built to be a track day weapon. It is however street legal with a current license plate. I will have them post an updated picture of how that attaches.

The original color of the car was white. That hasn’t changed.

I don’t know if Rothsport used original engine block for this build or not.

Brakes are from a 993 Turbo.

The car has had zero damage in its lifetime.

I think that answers all your questions. GLWB.

  • dawgfan1214 (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@Porschecarl As far as the other parts of the build go, I believe the brakes are from a 993 Turbo, the dampers are the Bilstein RSR, I assume the trans is the original trans but all updated with steel synchros (see Rothsport invoice dated 5/20/14), Rothsport billet short shifter assy-964/993, G50 Superlock LImited Slip Diff, & RS flywheel (see Rothsport invoice dated 4/11/10), and a very long list of suspension parts from the Cantrell invoice dated 12/3/2009 which shows:
964 Rear Trailing Arm Monoball set
    964 Front A-Arm monoball set
964 Rear spring plates with adjustable monoball
    964 cup sway bar set
964 Adjustable front and rear sway bar drop link set

There is a lot more in these invoices but I believe those are the highlights.

Everything that went into this car, as you can tell from the receipts, was the best of the best. No expense was spared and everything was done to make it the best track car possible at the suggestion of 3 reputable shops: Rothsport Racing, Cantrell Motorsports, and Blitzkrieg in Canada.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • skimaker (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

    Beautiful build.
As the owner of an unmolested 1993R is America it would be a treat to have one that I could go out and tear around on a track. You mentioned that it street legal is it currently registered? I don’t see any license plates on the car. Can a passenger seat be fit in the car?
    Good luck with the auction

  • Garage5 (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

Amazing car. I want to bid but a few concerns. I saw the invoice for $2700 for interior respray. But it looks like there is over spray on the rear part of cage. What was exactly resprayed on interior?

Also. What is behind the rear wheels in some of the pics? Just dirty?

Nice car! Can you provide details on who made the roll bar and what thickness//diameter the tubing is? Is the suspension stock? What racing have you done with the car? How long ago was the car painted white and was that original color? Any damage repaired on the car? Did you commission the build of the race car? Is the engine block original or something else? What brakes are on the car? Any more details to the build would be great. Thanks

  • Porschecarl (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

Is it possible to get a more detailed description of the build apart from the engine? Suspension, Trans, Brakes, etc.

@Jaeusa Unfortunately I do not. But this new engine has seen no track time yet as I just finished it last November and the weather here in WA isn't good until late spring. I wanted to invest the time and money to do a full and total rebuild with all of Rothsport's newest and best parts before I sold it, so someone would have a brand new engine to enjoy. This engine is much better than the previous build that I drove on track as this received all of Gamroth's updated goodies. He told me this was the race version of the motor he builds for the Gunther Werks 400R and that it was also the same spec he runs in his personal race car which is a rare factory 993 RS. Ironically, just today, I was was looking through the books for the car and I found the engine dyno from the first build in 2010. There is more difference than I had originally thought. This new build moved peak power from 7000 to 7600 ... which is awesome, and it raised max TRQ from 285.4 at 5200 RPM to 335.8 at 6000 RPM. The previous car was 997 cup car fast, but this new set up would blow that away. If you do the math it has a 15% better power to weight ratio than the new 991.2 GT3 RS.
