Now up for auction is this 1993 Mazda FD RX-7 finished in red over a tan interior.  This 3rd generation RX-7 is a U.S. domestic market example powered by 1.3 L sequential-turbocharged 2-rotor engine with an upgraded air intake and full turbo-back exhaust system.  After being acquired by the selling dealer, this RX-7 was treated to some noteworthy maintenance including new fluids, filters, spark plugs, ignition wires and a compression test.  Said to be in excellent driving order with approximately 42k miles now showing on the odometer, this iconic Mazda sports car is being offered by its seller out of Minnesota.

This RX-7 is reported to have been completely refinished in its original color of red at some point during previous ownership.  This is said to be a common occurrence as the paint on these cars is known for factory defects.  The finish on this particular example is said to be in very nice condition overall with a recent professional detail and paint correction carried out.  Only a few small imperfections are depicted in the photos and walkaround video provided in the gallery. An aftermarket chin spoiler and rear wing have been installed along with LED daytime running lights and window tint.  This FD-series retains factory 16” alloy wheels that come dressed in a healthy set of tires.

The cabin is trimmed in tan leather with matching carpets and a black dashboard. The interior is described to be in great shape with the only issue noted as being a broken cover on the driver’s side storage compartment.  For an unknown cause, CARFAX shows a “biohazard” damage report in 2018 with no further information available. The seller assures that the cabin is free of any issues and welcomes inspection. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional except for an aftermarket Passport integrated radar detector system.

Sought after for its unique rotary power plant, this RX-7 is equipped with a 1.3 L 13B-REW 2-rotor engine featuring sequential twin-turbochargers.  It sends 255 HP and 217 lb.-ft of torque stock to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transmission with a Torsen limited-slip differential.  This example also features an upgraded Racing Beat air intake kit and a full turbo-back performance exhaust system which has had the OEM catalytic converter welded in for emissions purposes.  The car was refreshed with new fluids, filters, spark plugs, ignition wires, and a brake fluid flush at the time of the seller’s recent acquisition.  The car was also thoroughly inspected and found to be in strong mechanical order.  Compression test results are posted in the photo gallery.

This sale will include a clean title.  Increasingly sought after and hard to come by, this FD-series RX-7 provides a fantastic opportunity, especially with only 42k miles shown on the odometer.

@aaroncv All good questions. I did not purchase the car from Copart. It is my understanding that the owner at the time (#2) had fallen sick and the car sat for a time. Once he passed, the family didn't know what to do with it nor did it run (by the turn of the key). They gave it to Copart to auction it off, AS-IS. I have zero knowledge of why there is a "biohazard" stamp on it as there doesn't seem to be any signs of issue in it currently. Also judging by the pics from copart that I found online, the interior looks the same as it is now. The door cubby hole, couldn't tell ya... Could have broke from use or the wheel hitting it in Copart.
The last owner maintained it well but it was in need to service as I got it, so I went thru and did the service work as mentioned above. I also had our resident rotary expert come in and give it a half day inspection. He looked at everything from chassis to compression numbers, gave me suggestions on work, etc. I completed everything he said, as outlined in the description. If you see the walk around videos, that was made literally the day this car was posted. I have ZERO doubts in my mind on the condition of the car and its reliability. It starts and runs great. Drove fantastic for the one day i could drive it before the snow hit. So, that's all I got... Any other questions, I'm happy to address.

This car appears to have been sold just over 2 years ago at a copart auction. At the time, it did not start or run/drive with mechanical damage being the primary damage and biohazard secondary damage. It had similar mileage at the time (43,000 (not actual)). Did you purchase the vehicle at that auction? If so, can you speak about what work was done post auction to get it running and clarify the biohazard damage? I imagine the damaged driver door panel was from the factory wheels/tires being crammed into the cab of the car by the auction lot, FWIW. Thanks.
