Following the concept of the Carrera RS sports model offered in Europe, Porsche developed the RS America as a lightweight driver-focused 964 exclusively for the North American market. Based on the Carrera 2, the RS America equips a lightweight interior, unassisted steering, and sports suspension along with a unique whaletail spoiler. This 1993 example is one of 701 produced in total and comes finished in Guards Red with a factory optional limited-slip differential, electric sunroof, and air conditioning. The car is supported by ownership history dating back to 1997 and was modified with the intention of entering PCA track events by the previous caretaker including Bilstein coilovers, 993 Turbo brakes, and full performance exhaust system. Showing approximately 38k miles, this rare and sparingly driven RS America is now being offered for auction out of Virginia.

This 964 is finished in Guards Red with “RS” logos on the rear quarters, a front spoiler lip, and Cup-style air ducts in the front bumper. The RS America uses a fixed lightweight whaletail in favor of the standard 964’s electrically operated spoiler. This example rides on 18” Speedline for Porsche 3-piece wheels which have been refurbished and paired with “RS” logo center caps. The seller states the passenger door and rear bumper were previously refinished and that a layer of original clear paint protection film was recently removed from the front end. Additional images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The minimalist black interior of the RS America includes cloth-trimmed Sport Seats, RS-style door panels, thinner carpeting, and a storage compartment in place of the rear seats for weight savings. This example came with a factory-optional electric sunroof and air conditioning system. Custom Coco floor mats have also been fitted along with an upgraded Pioneer stereo.

This RS America is powered by an air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six engine that sends 247 HP and 228 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a G50 5-speed manual transmission and an optional limited-slip differential. Upgrades installed by the previous owner are said to include a single-mass flywheel, Turbo-spec clutch, 993 Turbo “Big Red” brakes, Bilstein PS9 coilovers, a 993 Bosch hot film airflow sensor, performance air intake, carbon fiber heater duct, a performance engine chip, and full header exhaust system complete with sport catalytic converters and heater boxes. The suspension has been corner-balanced and aligned to Cup specifications with European ride height. A recent full service is said to have been completed, and a collection of maintenance records accompanies the sale.

This sale will include maintenance records, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a collection of original parts, and a clean title.

    @Specracer8 we did not do a compression or leak down , however will gladly do one for the next owner and if the numbers don’t fall within an acceptable range then the buyer’s obligation to finalize the transaction will be voided. I will stand behind this car as I do with each specialty vehicle we sell Thanks Bill

  • Specracer8 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    @ridecooler So, got it.....no knowledge (or evidence) of a roll bar/cage ever having been installed (no bolt holes present).
    But, did your shop perform a compression/leakdown test as part of your "shop just did a comprehensive going over.......and inspection of all engine components."?

    @Specracer8 it to our knowledge

  • Specracer8 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    @ridecooler Another quick question: any signs of a roll bar/cage ever being installed in the car?

  • Specracer8 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    @ridecooler I see your shop just did a comprehensive going over of the engine. Was a compression/leak down test done by chance?

  • Specracer8 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    @ridecooler Thanks!

  • ridecooler (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    @Specracer8 the splitter can removed without issue if desired. I do not know the amount of track time. Thanks Bill

  • Specracer8 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    @ridecooler How is the front spoiler affixed? Can it be removed without blemish to the bumper? Any information on how often the car was entered in track events?

    @ridecooler Good morning to all and thanks for bidding and the questions both public and through DMs. Want to let everyone know that the RS is scheduled for (finally) a dry ice undercarriage cleaning. We have been on the list but unfortunately it couldn't get in before our auction began. It will be done before the new owner takes delivery. Thanks Bill

    @Leonardway it’s a rainy Saturday morning here so I will have underside pictures as soon as I can move it to the lift. As stated it does have paint work on the door but I don’t know what the cause was and the carfax is clean. It should be posted soon. Porsche uses timing chains so the belt is not an issue. Car has a complete service history and my shop just did a comprehensive going over Fresh fluids through out and inspection of all engine components. Also Virginia state inspection was completed. Thanks

  • Leonardway (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    Photo 61 is showing 31 mils. Did something happen to this area to require so much coverage? Can photos of the underneath be provided? What is the recent service history? When was the timing belt replaced, if at all?

  • dgamble911 (registered bidder) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    I did not see the CarFax posted in the gallery. Could you add that? Thanks!

    @ridecooler LSD , I in response, not led. sorry not a great typist

  • ridecooler (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    @ridecooler @ridecooler. We are posting pictures of the markings of the wheels with the Speedline numbers and made in Italy casting . if you are not familiar with wheel refinishing the wheels are totally disassembled then laser trimmed and repolished. I will go by the shop and examine all of the bolts were more than likely replaced at that time. the part number is 965 so these are the real deal and yes quite expensive. the etchings were probably lost in the laser process.I am not aware of the reason for the paint work and neither was the last owner since it had been done prior to his purchase of the car. The cowl was repainted but as you stated that was a common issue. I have no idea when and how many times the car was tracked throughout its ownership but the previous owner did have it out twice for PCA club days at VIR. after all that's what it was built for. Led appears to be working as it should , no extra noise or chatter. Hopefully this addresses your concerns. Let me know if you have other questions. we will be submitting bottom side photos later when I get it on the lift later.. Thanks Bill

  • ridecooler (seller) 1 year, 4 monthsago

    Thanks for your insight on the wheels. Standby for a few and I’ll get back to you. We are pulling right front and right rear the verify

  • cobalt 1 year, 4 monthsago

    Nice RSA. I am curious, the letter posted and description states the wheels are OE speedline for Porsche wheels but the pictures show them to be RH replicas. The speedline bolts would have an SL marking on the surface vs a dimple. Are the SPEEDLINE for PORSCHE etchings along with wheel width and offset marked on either side of the valve stem. If they are real they would have 965 part numbers on the backside. It is possible they used RH bolts when they were refurbished. Real Speedline are well into $15k these days as the RH's only $4-5k.

    Do you know what the cause of the repair was for the passenger door reading 32.4 mils? It would appear the front cowl was repainted as well which is common. The description states that this car was setup for DE or track duty was it and how many miles? Is the LSD still functioning? These don't hold up long with extensive track duty and require rebuilds after a short period on track.

    Any picture of the underside?

    Thx and GLWA
