Now available for auction is this 1993 Porsche 964 RS America finished in Black over a black interior.  Following the success of the 964 RS in the European market, driving enthusiasts in the United States demanded a lightweight, purpose-built 964 model of their own.  Under the direction of racing legend Vic Elford, Porsche set out to fulfill this demand by creating a track-oriented, lightweight car based on the Carrera 2, which would be called “RS America”.  This 1993 example was purchased by the current owner in 2015 and has since had a brand-new OEM suspension installed along with a Porsche Classic Radio.  This highly collectible 964 is now being offered for auction out of Florida with approximately 67k miles showing on the odometer.

The Black finish on this 964 is described to be very well presented with a professional paint correction carried out recently.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX.  A distinctive model-specific whale tail rear spoiler comes standard on the RS America as well as “RS” designations on the lower rear quarter panels.  This example retains factory 17” Cup wheels currently dressed in Pirelli P Zero tires.

For the purpose of weight savings, this RS America left the factory with special lightweight carpeting, cloth seats, basic door panels with pull straps, and a rear seat delete. Some unique features include an optional electric sunroof and A/C system which are normally omitted from these models.  This example was recently fitted with a new Porsche Classic radio, and the cabin is said to be otherwise original and in excellent condition with all gauges and accessories working properly.

This 964 is equipped with an air-cooled 3.6 L flat-six engine that sends 247 HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox and a factory optioned limited slip differential.  Since the seller’s purchase in 2015, a brand-new OEM suspension has been installed and all proper routine maintenance was observed to keep the car in good running order.  Some history of maintenance is provided on CARFAX and the seller states that records will be included from their ownership.

This sale will include original owner’s books, tools, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.  Widely regarded as one of the purest and best-driving air-cooled cars of all time, this 964 RS America is a must-have for any avid Porsche enthusiast.

Had a new one in ‘93. Sold it for $38k in ‘95 w 33k miles. We were not considering it a ‘real’ RS then, but it sure seems like one now. In comparison to my ‘92 Euro RS, it isn’t the hat far off, and the current prices are starting to reflect that.
    Congrats to the winner!

This is a nice car, I recently sold a similar RSA and wish the seller well and will say to the next owner, these cars are great fun!! ENJOY IT!

  • bachschmidt (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@TMR3 Not that I know have. We don’t/have not tracked any of our cars. Although I want to!!!
This would be a fun one on the track for sure!

  • TMR3 (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

I gotta laugh when you guys are asking about date codes on tires on what is easily a 6 figure car. Give the seller a break. He's offering what looks like a really straight car and you nit pick
    it apart.
I have no alleviation will seller whatsoever but I do own several 964's and an RSA.

I'm sure it's not a Euro RS or Cup but neither the price of admission! It's something you can enjoy with each mile you put into her and not worry too much of depreciation it can only go up in value. GLWS OP!

  • Joesnovak 3 years, 1 monthago

@bachschmidt thanks I see the CarFax, many owners, but each seem to take care of it.
Nice car, notice it has all 4 options, AC, Radio, LSD, sunroof, good.
Since car is a RS some just like LSD only for weight

  • bachschmidt (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

    @Joesnovak pictures 108-112

  • bachschmidt (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@Joesnovak The car fax is included in the pictures below.

  • Joesnovak 3 years, 1 monthago

That seat wear in #86 looks normal, depends who owned the car the post. Many drivers enter the sport seats across that area wearing out the side. Sport seats have large boosters and wider drivers have harder time to enter and exit. Not a big deal on this car with miles shown, need a CarFax or am I missing it

  • bachschmidt (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@Joesnovak The car fax is included in the pictures.

  • Joesnovak 3 years, 1 monthago

Is there a CarFax report, please

  • Joesnovak 3 years, 1 monthago

@bachschmidt ok, what are the date code of the tires, please

  • bachschmidt (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@DriverM The tires are not dry rotted that we are aware of. But please make your own determination based on the photos. Same goes for the interior. The drivers seat wear is the only damage that we are aware of, but please make your own determination based on the photos.

  • Joesnovak 3 years, 1 monthago

Paint numbers are low but, it looks original paint to me the one reading at 3.55 mm
no idea what he is measuring in that picture.
Need to take more panel readings, make sure that tool is calibrated too

  • Joesnovak 3 years, 1 monthago

@kfitzpat9 This car was robot painted, not hand painted as many think. The 964 series was the start of a automation big time.
If you notice paint thickness on 964 cars should be fairly tight in readings unlike early 911 cars there was much more paint variations

Good readings should be close to 6.5 to 8....never over 8mm and the sides could be in the lower range.

  • DriverM (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

Photo 56 appears to show dry rot at the tires edge. Am I correct? Is there any interior damage other than photo 86 showing the drivers seat? Thanks in advance.

  • bachschmidt (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@DriverM We have not replaced the tires since we have had it as they are in good condition. As for the wear and tear on the drivers seat, nothing has been done to it. It is normal wear and tear for that area with those cars.

  • DriverM (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

Are all tires from 2012? It appears as though someone tried to repair the side of the drivers seat where there is some wear and tear. Is that correct?

@bachschmidt Thanks and hood looks great as well as the other panels posted!

  • bachschmidt (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@kfitzpat9 Paint meter pics are up!

  • bachschmidt (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@kfitzpat9 Picking up the paint meter gauge as we speak. Will get pictures today and have them posted.

  • kfitzpat9 (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

Thanks bachschmidt and as the owner of several 964’s (both black), I certainly understand the paint quality is pre-robot and not to current Porsche standards, but the hood did give me pause when zooming in.

As this is a very nice car, I think it would benefit you to post some paint meter readings and alleviate any concerns. Will fetch you more $$.

I believe Amazon sells them for like $20 and not the highest quality, but it is consistent from panel to panel.

    Again, nice car.

  • bachschmidt (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

@kfitzpat9 The paint on the hood was not redone.

  • kfitzpat9 (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

Hi there! Per my private message, can you post pictures of the paint meter readings to verify that it's all original paint as indicated? Would be curious to see what other folks think of pictures 45/46 and not uncommon to have the hood redone, but would be great to see actual readings.

  • BruceM911 3 years, 1 monthago

@indapaint the rear spoiler is standard with the RS America from the factory.

  • indapaint (registered bidder) 3 years, 1 monthago

Is the whale tail after market and or can it be removed? Seems disproportionately large and detracts from the elegance of the car.

  • bachschmidt (seller) 3 years, 1 monthago

The car had a complete polish of the paint to restore luster and remove the paint swirls.
It was also ceramic coated after the polishing was completed.
