One of only 608 examples delivered to the United States for the model year, this 1993 Porsche 968 Coupe comes finished in Black over a matching interior and features optional Sport Seats, 17” light alloy wheels, and a limited-slip differential paired with its 6-speed manual transmission. It was purchased new at Porsche of Beverly Hills and is accompanied by an original service booklet showing dealer maintenance stamps for the first 10 years. This 968 remained in California until 2009 when it was purchased by a PCA regional president in Kansas City. It joined the current owner’s collection in 2010 and has since been kept indoors while never subjected to winter driving conditions. Showing approximately 193k miles on the odometer, this 968 is now being offered for auction out of Ohio.

This 968 comes finished in nonmetallic Black (A1) and features optional 17” Cup 1 light alloy wheels with colored center crests. It rides on a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 tires dated from 2004 with approximately 6/32” of tread remaining. The seller notes some broken pieces on the lower front grille as well as a fine scratch on the passenger door, some imperfections on the hood, touched-up curb damage on one of the wheels, and a blemish on the lower front valence. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The black interior is equipped with a pair of optional electrically adjustable Sport Seats and includes A/C with full climate control, cruise control, power accessories, and a central locking system. The rear window wiper has been eliminated, and an aftermarket Alpine head unit was installed along with a set of stainless steel 968 logo door sills. The rear wiper motor is said to accompany the sale and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

The naturally aspirated 3.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces as much as 236 HP and 225 lb.-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission and an optional limited-slip differential. The engine belts and rollers are said to have been replaced about 10 years ago with less than 4k miles driven since, and a service recently completed in preparation for sale included an oil and filter change, brake fluid flush, and power steering hose replacement.

This sale will include the original window sticker, owner’s manuals, service booklet, toolkit, spare tire, maintenance records, and a clean title.

Less than 3 hours to go for this beautiful example of a rare model that was design with the intent of being the replacement for the venerable 911 at the time. It is the pinnacle of Porsche 4 cyl front engined liquid cooled cars and thats the exact position it enjoyed in my grouping of German gems each representing a specific slot of uniqueness. Someone is going to win a very nice example indeed, though as noted its not perfect. Good luck and keep the bids and questions coming :)

@petza914 with a light and a mirror and iPhone both rear wheels are marked in the casting behind the spokes with: 965.362.128.00 And both fronts are marked with 965.362.124.05 confirming the OEM nature of all 4.

  • 2FaasstDad (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@petza914 another update…. My father found a receipt from the original owner in 2001 at Wheel Enhancement: 1 factory rear wheel was purchased outright and and one front was refinished on exchange basis noting “Factory 7.5 x 17 C2 turbo wheel”. All 4 tires were replaced at the time and 117K miles. We are still pulling the wheel to confirm the casting markings on the back of the spokes for the one without the valve stem marking

  • 2FaasstDad (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@petza914 great eye and great question. I’m going to have the wheel pulled right now and will document the rear markings…. Should have that shortly and will get back to you

  • 2FaasstDad (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@petza914 I had my father take a closer look and clearer zoomed in pic and on further inspection it isn’t a repair- no stitching added or ‘paste’ or any non OE material. It’s also not a wrinkle, or loose material. It’s firm but raised as it appears in the pic. If I can figure out how to get you the zoomed pic quickly I will

Sorry, 1 more thing as I look more closely at the provided photos... As far as you know, has one of the wheels been replaced with a replica one instead of a genuine one. Almost all Porsche wheels have the width and offset embossed by the valve stem. 3 of the 4 wheels pictured do have this, but the one with the valve stem at 10 o'clock does not.

  • 2FaasstDad (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@petza914 thank you for your question. I’m honestly not sure what that is… if it’s some type of a repair it was done prior to 2010. I’m not with the car at the moment but I will have a family member take a close look and see if there is anything to indicate what it is - I see it, just not sure what it is

Have the top 2 seams of the driver's seat backrest been repaired with something? Looks like uneven black paste or similar possibly repairing a split seam?

At this mileage at a minimum this car needs tons of maintenance. Obviously, it needs Tires, the timing belt, rollers, tensioners, balance shaft belt, water pump and thermostat. Additionally, the Vario Cam Chain, and its guides need to be replaced. The Clutch and DMF and associated hardware. The Limited Slip Differential will need an overhaul as the clutches will be worn out. Almost all the rubber in the suspension is suspect at best. All fluids likely need to be flushed. Where is a cold start video? With this mileage there is bound to be some bore scoring. The fact that the seller said it was safe to drive on these tires AT ALL tells me everything I need to know.

  • stupendous (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@2FaasstDad Thank you for your responses. Much appreciated. The carfax shows regular servicing until 2010. Are there any records among those you have of servicing from 2010 onwards?

  • 2FaasstDad (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

    @stupendous sorry i missed one…

The real 10) i don’t know about the speakers, I’ve never had the radio on

  • 2FaasstDad (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

@stupendous thank you for your interest and your questions… I’ll do my best
    1) there is no rust, this car is clean and dry
    2) I’m an individual collector and not a body guy but the hood marks look like clear coat peeled for last of a better word - there were there when we purchased it so perhaps a downside of the CA sunshine
    3) as far as we know the rear wiper works but its so heavy that its a concern with the integrity of the rear hatch glass which is why we removed it, that and no intent to drive in the rain. Recommend RaineX instead.
    4) I will take pics of the rear seats and headliner and submit to Pcarmarket - they will post on Monday at the earliest
    5) The AC works but its been a while since its been ‘charged’ - I don’t use it, i prefer windows down and less drag on the engine
    6) TIming belts, rollers and water pump would be next on the list. Unless you are planning to take the car to the track the tires are fine for normal driving.
    7) to my knowledge the engine hasn’t been rebuilt but I haven’t gone through all 29 years of receipts - the history of service and maintenance is significant.
    8) same as 6
    9) there are no rips in the seats - frankly they are remarkable. And they are the 3rd most comfortable Porsche seat I’ve ever had (RS America = #1, GT4 Light Weight Carbon Buckets = #2)
    10) all the gauges work
    11) same for the sunroof

    Happy bidding!

  • 2FaasstDad (seller) 1 year, 6 monthsago

    URS6 appreciate your bid!

  • stupendous (registered bidder) 1 year, 6 monthsago

Hi, Nice car and nice neighborhood! I have some questions if that's okay. Just numbered them to make it easier to keep track. :)
1.I know that you mentioned that it has not been driven in the winter, but I have to ask whether there is any rust anywhere or bubbling of the paint?
    2. What are those imperfections on the hood?
    3. Do you know if the original rear wiper motor still works?
    4. Could you include photos of the rear seats and headliner?
    5. Does the AC work with no issues?
    6. Is there any deferred maintenance that it needs aside from new tires?
    7. Has the engine been rebuilt?
    8. Is there any deferred maintenance needed, belts, chains anything?
    9. Any rips in the upholstery?
    10. Do all of the speakers work?
    11. Ditto for the gauges, digital ambient temp gauge, etc?
    12. Does the sunroof work?
I know that's a lot. Thanks. I really like these cars and am looking for one to keep and enjoy.

Welcome fellow Pcarmarket folks! Thanks for taking a look at my beautiful 968! Easy to like color combination, 6 sod manual with limited slip diff, super supportive sport buckets all in fantastic shape with records back to day 1! We’ve taken care of her for the last dozen or so years and recently brought a 981 GT4 into the fold so am adjusting the Porschefolio. Please ask any questions and I’ll answer them to the best of my ability quickly. Cheers and shiny side up!
