Now up for auction is this custom restored 1994 Land Rover Defender 90 300TDi. This authentic right-hand drive example is said to have been purchased in the U.K by its seller before it was treated to complete frame-off restoration and upgrade by the reputable ex-military technicians HX Motors. The cabin was redone, the chassis received a protective coating, the 5-speed manual gearbox was rebuilt, and the 2.5L turbodiesel engine was refreshed and upgraded with a performance intercooler. This Defender 90 was recently imported to the U.S. with under 55k original miles showing on the odometer, of which less than 30 were driven since the restoration. It is now being offered for auction by its seller Connecticut accompanied by a clean title (in transit).
After being fully disassembled down to the bare frame, this Defender was completely refinished in Black. The new paint is said to be in excellent condition as can be seen in the photo gallery. A protective Raptor bed liner was applied throughout the entire frame, tub, bumpers, wheel wells, and some exterior trim. All new doors and rubber moldings have also been installed and the bulkhead and floor pans are said to have undergone repair. Modifications include rock sliders, SVX side steps, a NAS rear step with a tow hitch, LED lighting, a full front cage, and 5 new Sawtooth rims dressed in Cooper Discoverer tires.
The cabin has been completely redone with full insulation, new rubber flooring, a new headliner, reupholstered rear seats, and luxurious leather front seats sourced from a Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Added features include power windows and central locking doors, new heated front and rear windscreens, a Motolita steering wheel, and a fully rewired cabin with a JVC double-din head unit and reversing camera. The seller indicates all gauges and accessories to be working properly with a new heater and blower unit for the HVAC system.
This Defender 90 is said to retain its original 2.5 L inline-4 turbodiesel engine which is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox featuring a dual-range transfer case. During the restoration, the engine was refreshed and upgraded with an AlliSport performance intercooler, and the gearbox was rebuilt and fitted with a new clutch. This example was also upgraded with front and rear anti-roll bars and new disc brakes. With barely 30 miles traveled since the restoration, this Defender is said to be fully sorted and in superb operating condition for its next owner.

@utopify Good morning. Yes, this was the full frame off type of restoration. I'm uploading another image to help on this point. The frame was fully refurbished and coated in bed liner during that process. I was building and customizing this Defender for my own personal use while in the UK, but was transferred back to the US early (so not a cosmetic flip type project).
The gearbox was removed and fully rebuilt by Landrover gearbox specialist outside of London. At the same time the clutch fork was replaced along with a new clutch installed. The 300 TDi engine is the original spec and no gearing modifications were made. Performance upgrades included a new and larger performance intercooler, and silicone hoses (new radiator as well).

"Complete frame-off restoration" is becoming too widely used it appears. I don't see the body was ever off, nor the drivetrain. On a side note, any information on the gearing? Both in axle ratio as well as rpms at highway speeds? Thank you.
