Now available for auction is this 1994 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Cabriolet finished in Slate Grey Metallic over a Classic Grey interior.  Reported to be one of only 283 U.S. Cabriolet models produced for the final year of the Porsche 964, this 1994 example was originally registered in Pennsylvania before moving to California in 1998 where it remained for nearly its entire life.  It came factory optioned with 8-way power-adjustable seats and rear storage compartments as well as desirable 17” Cup Design wheels.  Having undergone a major engine-out service in 2019, this 964 is said to have been very well maintained throughout the years with a massive collection of service records accompanying the sale.  This 964 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Texas while showing approximately 95k miles on the odometer.

This Carrera 2 is finished in Slate Grey Metallic with a black cabriolet soft top and tonneau cover.  The car is said to have been professionally refinished under previous ownership and the seller reports all factory-applied VIN labels to remain in place.  CARFAX shows minor damage to have occurred to the left-front end in 2011 as well as damage to the convertible top in 2008.  The seller states that the front-end damage resulted from a very minor parking lot scratch and the front bumper has since been refinished along with the complete replacement of the cabriolet top at a reported cost of $18k.  Additional images are provided in the photo gallery along with the CARFAX report.  This 964 came factory optioned with 17” Cup Design wheels which were dressed in new Continental tires earlier in 2020.

Inside, this Cabriolet sports a Classic Grey partial leather interior with optional 8-way power-adjustable front seats, and storage compartments in place of the rear seats.  Other factory options include cruise control and an amplifier for the sound system.  An aftermarket Alpine radio has been installed and the A/C knob has been replaced in recent years along with a power seat switch. The seller confirms all electrical accessories to be fully functional, although the A/C is said to need a recharge.

This 964 Carrera 2 is equipped with an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine that sends as much as 247 HP and 228 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox.  This 964 is said to have been treated to a very high level of care and maintenance throughout its life, as detailed in a thick binder of service records.  A major engine-out service is also said to have been performed under the previous ownership in 2019 along with replacements of the CV boots.

This sale will include the original owner's manuals and leather pouch, toolkit, spare tire, a binder of service records, and a clean title.  If you have been in search of an air-cooled Cabriolet, this final-year 964 Carrera 2 is not to be overlooked.

The A/C is R134. 1993 was the first year Porsche used the new modern R134a refrigerant as standard.

  • Terra (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Has the A/C been upgraded to R134a or is it still an R12 system?

  • sug08549 (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Guys you read right, $18k just for the top! His wife closed it and bent the frame while doing so. In order to properly repair it, he brought it to the best convertible top shop in San Francisco and they nearly replaced everything, for a whopping $18k. The scratch on the front bumper cover was literally a scratch from a shopping cart at the grocery store. The bumper cover was never even replaced, just repainted. They painted it to perfection. Lastly, zero rust on this car. As dry as one can ask for. No corrosion anywhere. I will upload a copy of the top invoice.

@sug08549 What in the world could be a reason for " the complete replacement of the cabriolet top at a reported cost of $18k"?? Usually you replace the softtop itself. An like the other bidder already asked: 18K for a new Cabriolet top and a new front bumper?? Can you pls post the Invoice for that

  • Roma (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Can the seller plz comment on any rust? Thx

$18,000 for a new top and a small “scratch repair”. Either it’s very very expensive new top or the scratch was not minor. How much did each cost?

Compression/leakdown hasn't been done. You're more than welcome to schedule a PPI if you wish. I see no reason at all that the numbers wouldn't come back healthy. It's a strong engine. Remember these late 964 engines, 1994 in particular, were the very best of all the 964 engines. They had updated head gaskets (instead of the early 964 engine without gaskets), complete new intake manifolds, and updated valve covers that don't leak like the earlier 964s, just to name a few of the updates on the later 964 engines.

  • Terra (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Has a compression or leak down test ever been done? If so, what were the results.

  • snowtx1 (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

I'm local in Dallas and would love to see the car.

Hi Everyone welcome to the auction! This is a very rare, final year 1994 964. The blower motor was repaired and blows perfect. And the A/C does indeed work (tried it this afternoon). It blows cool, but not ice cold. Just needs a charge. As for the engine out service in 2019, this was mainly replacing the original fuel lines that sprung a leak at the time. The correct way to properly replace the fuel lines is to take the engine out. I spoke to the previous owner at length recently. He had an open checkbook policy when it came to maintaining this car. He changed the oil less than every 3k miles, every single issue he brought the car away to the shop. The condition speaks for itself.

  • Terra (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

    Engine out in 2019. Thanks

  • Terra (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Was non-functioning interior blower motor ever fixed? What was done when the reported motor out service was done in 2029? Invoice?
