Marking the final year of the 964 generation, this 1994 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 Coupe is finished in Black over a matching interior. It came factory equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional limited-slip differential as well as 17” Cup wheels, a rear window wiper, a power driver’s seat, and an electric sunroof. The car is said to have been driven up until 2008 at 41,800 miles when it was parked in storage at the original owner’s summer home. It was brought out in September 2022 and has since received over $8k worth of service in preparation for sale. Showing just over 46k miles on the odometer, this 964 is now being offered for auction out of New Jersey.

This Carrera 2 is finished in Black and equipped with factory 17” Cup Design wheels. Optional colored Porsche crest center caps were also selected from the factory along with a rear window wiper. Noted imperfections include rock chips and clear coat failure on the front end, small door dings on the driver’s side, and general signs of road-going wear. The Cooper tires are recommended for replacement. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, you will find a black partial leather interior with optional supple leather seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat, an electric sunroof, and an original Porches CR-1 head unit. The seller notes some minor signs of wear on the seats and notes the A/C and radio are currently inoperable. A recent invoice shows the odometer was repaired and calibrated with mileage advanced to 46,000 as the car had reportedly been driven sparingly while the odometer was broken. The seller states the car's true mileage is less than what is currently displayed.

Rated at 247 HP, the air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six engine drives the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed G50 manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Over $8k worth of maintenance was completed at Bodymotion Inc. in September 2022 including the replacement of the rear wiper arm, power window switch, right side taillight assembly, oil tank hoses, drive belts, distributor cap/rotor, ignition wires, CV boots, steering rack boots, and a wheel alignment. A full 45k-mile service was also completed at this time including new oil, filters, spark plugs, and valve cover gaskets. A corresponding invoice is provided for reference and the seller suspects the gearbox synchros are worn.

This sale will include a clean title.

Hello all, as we near the end of the auction I want to thank you for your interest and bids thus far. Looking forward to giving this 964 a new home!

Also, I would like to address an earlier comment. The advertised listing price before the auction went live, is irrelevant. I worked with Pcarmarket to establish a reserve in line with the current market values. Bid with confidence. This car is priced to sell. Thank you!

In picture 36 there is a small imperfection/bubble in the rubber channel windshield seal. Look almost all the way to left on the lower part of the windshield seal. This is evident of the need for this area to be fixed for rust/rot from the inside out. I paid somewhere in the $8-10k range for this to be remedied on my 964 about 3 years ago. This was done at a Porsche approved shop, one of only 18 certified as such worldwide. I was told that all 964’s have this issue and it needs to be addressed or it quietly gets worse. From my experience, what shows in picture 36 is very small compared to how it can get worse but it’s there. I am bidding with $10k in my pocket for this to be addressed if I were to bid successfully. This is not intended to deter folks, just to inform. I have owned my 964 for almost 20 years. I have almost the same mileage on my C2 manual. My gearbox/transmission have never been an issue so I am keeping $10k in my pocket for those repairs as well. Clear coat and paint imperfections on the front end will be addressed when the windshield work gets done.

I also own a 1994 black Carrera 964 coupe 5 speed with LSD. Let me tell you, this is a fantastic car.

Despite this car’s issues, it is a car you will never regret owning. I currently own an early air cooled Porsche, 3.2 Carrera, 993, a modern NA Targa GTS and GT3 Touring. if I was forced to sell every car I own and only keep one, the 964 would stay. I find it disheartening how people complain about the issues with this car, and that it was not prepared for sale. Go get a PPI, figure out what needs to be sorted, and buy this car. Last year 964s with this (awesome) configuration are extremely rare, and in my opinion among the best Porsches ever built. This is a car you have to get out your wallet for. Forget the price and enjoy sorting it, owning it, and then driving it.

@Harbormotorcars @Carwaymotors Ah, I see that now! Can you (or the owner) offer any insight as to the regularity of service in lieu of paper records?

  • Harbormotorcars (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@mziggy16 The owner bought this car brand new straight out of the dealership! You can check the car fax for the recorded service records. There are no copies of the service records prior to being taken to body motion except on the car fax.

  • mziggy16 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

It sounds like the owner has had the car for a very long time. Is there a history of service that we can see?

  • BoJones (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

    @galileo Agreed
As someone who was very interested, I’ve concluded that the owner (not the hired seller) is being somewhat unrealistic.
For the Fb Mkt price it had of $104K, it should be fully sorted mechanically. A paint refresh would do wonders as well.
Instead, they didn’t even address the busted front left turn signal lens and missing bumperette cover. The impact on that corner area it’s still visible. That’s more of an indicator of what to expect than it is a cost factor.
I’m predicting a reserve not met.
They’ll need to regroup and tackle the remaining issues. Then reassess price expectations and try again.
Looks like we’ll know in less than a day.

  • galileo (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

So owner did a bunch of stuff for preparation of the sale, why did owner not address the possible worn synchros?Thats kind of a big deal and why not replace the tires? If your going to prepare for sale one would think you sort it all out..

  • BoJones (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@BoJones Attn P Car, I accidentally flagged my last post.
The production numberscan become a rabbit hole. Adrian made the mistake of starting at zero with the VIN’s, but Porsche starts at 61. The post goes on to say that 129 base C2 coupes were imported with tips and sticks within that number. There might only be about 45-50 remaining in your car’s config. in the US.

  • BoJones (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

    https://rennlist.com/forums/964-forum/1145614-964-production-numbers.html

The link above from Rennlist shows Adrian Streather’s research on 964 numbers. He’s the widely accepted expert source.
He lists 200 base model C2 coupes (tip and manual) imported to the USA. We’d have to guess the split between tips and sticks. Maybe 100 5-speed coupes like your offering.

  • Harbormotorcars (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

    @BoJones Hi,
I recently included a video of the car driving and shifting. This car is definitely hard to come by. I have read that the total sales for the 1994 964 Carrera 2 + 4 combined was 974. That included tiptronic cars as well! This being a Carrera 2 Manual my guess would be about 350-400 total cars. Of that how many are still with us ? Maybe 250…. But it’s anyones guess

  • BoJones (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Humor me one this little role play:
Teacher to Students: Compare and contrast the volume and content of user comments between BaT and P Car Mkt for a typical Porsche 964 ad.
Student: “Well, teacher, the comments are much fewer in number on P Car and they tend to come from actual bidders.
Whereas on BaT, the volume of comments (see appendix A) can be excessive; consisting mostly of fluff.
Sometimes even devolving into arguments between non-bidders over the smallest of minutiae.”
    Teacher:
    “Do you mean like this.”
    Student:
    “Exactly, sorry teach.”
This is Bo Jones now. I AM surprised by the lack of traffic on this ad. I regularly comment on BaT ads, so why not here.
I was actually in contact with the seller when this car was offered on Facebook Marketplace 2 weeks ago for $105K.
    Has anyone driven it?
If so, can you share how ‘clunky’ it feels when shifting gears? And what the cause might be?
I tied to factor a gearbox rebuild along with an exterior refresh while trying to convince the wife of a purchase.
Long conversations that ultimately failed in getting her approval. I currently have a ‘93 C2 coupe 5-speed, so I’m familiar with the cost of ownership. The rarity of this car had me hooked.
But I’m still curious about the gearbox.
And if the reserve will be met.
    Good luck to everyone.

  • Ranger3 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Correction on mentioning the coupler. G50 arrangement is different.

  • Ranger3 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@Carwaymotors, given your description of the shifting seeming a bit clunky, I suggest looking at the bushings and coupler. This may be a simple fix. I am very interested in the car but factoring a possible engine/gearbox drop and gearbox freshening changes the value an appreciable amount. Is there an air-cooled specialty shop near the car?

  • Harbormotorcars (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@Ranger3 the odometer was raised to 46,000 miles from 41,700 as a precaution. The owner believes the miles to be lower than 46,000 but in the interest of honesty we felt to raise it higher than what we thought to be on the car. The car was taken out 3-4 times a summer since 2008 and short drives just to keep the car from sitting. Please take a look at the service records where you will see the odometer was fixed and set to 46,000. I suspect the syncros are worn because the cars gear box feels a bit clunky when rowing through the gears. The car can go into every-gear with out problem but the actuation of the shift feels worn.

  • Ranger3 (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@Carwaymotors, you stated "we calibrated mileage and advance to 46,000." Can you please provide some detail? What was actually calibrated; the Speedometer/Odometer? Is that calibrated on an instrument of some sort? Why was 46.000 miles chosen? Is there an invoice or work order associated with the calibration work?
Why do you and the OG think the G50 has worn syncros? That is highly unusual for a 911 with less that 46,000 miles. Some clarification on these questions will raise bidder interest.

@Harbormotorcars @Carwaymotors Thank you. I realise that but that doesn't answer my question. Are you saying that there is no documentation to back up the mileage? You are in contact with the car's original owner so could you not ask him to confirm the mileage with hard evidence? What's he done with the service books, for example? I'm sure you agree that a gearbox rebuild after <46000 miles is not normal so without proof of mileage it has to be assumed to be inaccurate.

  • Harbormotorcars (seller) 1 year, 5 monthsago

@planetaporsche I am selling the car on behalf of the original owner with his name on the original title. The Interior is in very solid condition. The car was driven in NY for most of its life, it was then parked up in his summer home garage in New Jersey since 2008 or so. After the car was parked, it was driven sparingly during the summer months and in some time after 2016 the odometer failed. When I took it in for service prior to the sale, we calibrated mileage and advanced to 46,000 The owner states the car's true mileage is less than what is currently displayed.

  • planetaporsche (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

So the OG owner had the car until two months ago. Does he not have documentation that backs up the mileage? I ask because I wouldn’t expect a gearbox rebuild nor interior wear after only 46k miles.

  • BoJones (registered bidder) 1 year, 5 monthsago

Porsche production numbers are lacking in details regarding the various configurations they produced.
Care to guess how many C2 manual coupes were imported for MY 1994?
