Following several years of anticipation, Porsche offered an improved 911 Turbo in 1993 featuring a new turbocharged version of the 3.6-liter M64 engine along with larger brakes, lowered suspension, and iconic three-piece Speedline wheels. This 1994 example is one of less than 1,500 produced in total and comes finished in Guards Red over a Black leather interior with Sport Seats. The car was sold new from Clair Porsche-Audi of Boston, Massachusetts, and was acquired by the seller from its fourth owner who had maintained the car since 2005. Showing just over 51k miles on the odometer, this highly collectible 964 was previously listed on PCARMARKET and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New Jersey.

The 911 Turbo is distinguished from other 964s by its wider bodywork, dual tailpipes, and Tea Tray rear spoiler. Models equipped with the later 3.6-liter engine also received red-painted brake calipers, chromium “Turbo 3.6” script, and three-piece 18” Speedline wheels measuring 8” wide in front and 10” wide in the rear. This example is finished in Guards Red and wears paint protection film over the front bumper as well as new stone guards on the rear fenders. The CARFAX report indicates the vehicle hit a curb in 1997 and shows four new tires mounted and balanced in 2023. The seller notes the driver's side rear fender was previously refinished and the front bumper was repainted under the care of its last owner to address stone chips. The seller adds that the wheels were also previously refinished and the original "Speedline for Porsche" lettering is no longer visible on the outer lips. Detailed images and paint meter readings are provided in the gallery along with a full CARFAX report.

The cabin is trimmed in Black leather with matching carpets and features optional heated Sport Seats as well as an exclusive Dark Rootwood shifter. The original Dark Rootwood handbrake cover has been replaced with a standard black leather piece. Driver amenities include automatic climate control, power windows and mirrors, a central locking system, a sunroof, cruise control, and a sound system paired with a factory Porsche CR-1 radio and upgraded speakers mounted in original locations. The seller adds that the cabin remains in excellent condition with almost no wear on the seat bolsters.

The turbocharged and intercooled 3.6-liter M64/60 flat-six engine delivers up to 355 HP and 384 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed G50 manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The Turbo 3.6 model rides 20mm lower than the original 964 Turbo and includes fixed four-piston Brembo brakes derived from the exclusive Turbo S version. Service completed in February 2023 included a new battery, brake light switch, two new fuel pumps, A/C maintenance, an oil/filter change, and a brake fluid flush. The engine was also removed and resealed in 2006 along with the installation of a new clutch, belts, hoses, tensioners, and pulleys. The seller adds that the engine number matches the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, although the transmission number does not match. Upon consultation with several experts, this is believed to be an error on the COA and the transmission is most likely original.

This sale will include a clean title along with the original window sticker, owner's manuals, toolkit, spare tire, and a battery charger.

The seller would like you to know: "This is the greatest of all the rear-wheel-drive air-cooled Porsche. The previous owner cherished this car since his ownership in 2005. A special one-year-only car built in very limited numbers with the rare sport seat option, makes this car truly special to drive."

@SpartyRob84 thanks for the question. at that time, the car did not meet its reserve, they was the only reason it didn’t sell. There is nothing wrong with the car. Everything runs and works as it should. Thanks

Nice looking car, and rare to find. The “No sale” in April at $259k concerns me when looking at the current bid price. Is there a major issue that I’m not seeing?

    Opinion:

This example of the 964 turbo 3.6 appears to be a solid "driver/survivor" with an accident history, change of the transaxle, and lack of documentation from 1993 to 2005 which appears to check its value below the expectations of these collectible "investment grade" rare Porsches.

It appears to have accumulated its 50K miles by 2005 and spent the last 18 years between dealers looking for its next owner. In 2023, it was revived from an apparent fuel problem and years of being undriven.

Personally, I would be interested in it as an example still drivable and I'd enjoy "going through it" to replace the rusted fasteners and parts to make it a reliable blast from the past. It merits another engine-out service, lightweight flywheel, precision turbo, all the usual dial-in refinements to suspension to make it less-than-lethal when driven for enjoyment and remove the aftermarket audio components, find the wood parking brake handle and show up with pride of place at any Porsche car show.
