It is our pleasure to offer this 1995 BMW E31 850CSi. One of only 225 examples produced for the U.S. from 1993 -1995, the 850CSi was the ultimate high-performance version of BMW's flagship E31 8-Series grand touring car. The CSi was developed by BMW Motorsport and equipped with a 5.6L V12 engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Finished in Orient Blue Metallic over a two-tone Silver-Grey Nappa leather interior, this 1995 example was delivered new to Peter Pan BMW of San Mateo, California, and was acquired by the current owner in 2001. A lifelong West Coast car, this 850CSi is now being offered for auction out of Oregon while showing just over 77k miles on the odometer.

This 8-Series is finished in Orient Blue Metallic (317) and the seller reports the car to have received regular detailing throughout their ownership. The driver’s side quarter panel was recently refinished for cosmetic purposes, and the hood and trunk were also reportedly refinished in 2002 to alleviate surface scratches. The seller notes a few small paint chips that have been professionally touched up, two on the hood and one on the rear fender. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.  New wheel well liners have been installed and the underside has been recently dry iced blasted by Griots Motors in Tacoma, Washington.

The E31 8-Series showcases a distinctive wedge-shaped body style, pop-up headlights, and pillarless fully retracting side windows. Some CSi-specific details include a unique front fascia with a deeper air dam and intake, more pronounced side sills, and a rear diffuser with quad exhaust tips. U.S. models also received exclusive “BMW Motorsport” engraved door handles. This 850CSi retains its factory-equipped 17” BMW 2-piece Style 21 M-System wheels with "Throwing Star" centers. These wheels have been recently refinished and are currently wrapped in Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires showing date codes from 2016.  A full-sized spare is also included in the trunk.

The cabin is upholstered in Silver-Grey Nappa leather with Light Silver-Grey inserts (N4SH) and features deeply bolstered sport seats with matching door panels and carpeting protected by BMW-branded floor mats. CSi-specific Yew Wood polished interior trim lines the center dash, center console, lower dash, and door panels. Some trim panels including the center console piece have been replaced. Driver amenities include power-operated and heated front seats, a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, a BMW mobile telephone, and cassette stereo with trunk-mounted 6 CD changer. A 4-spoke leather-trimmed multi-function steering wheel with tri-color M stitching sits in front of a 7k-tachometer and 190-MPH speedometer along with gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. All instrumentation and accessories are said to function properly.

The 850CSi is powered by an S70B56 5.6L V12 engine which was devolved by BMW Motorsport and factory rated at 372 HP and 406 lb.-ft of torque. A version of the S70 engine was also utilized for the legendary McLaren F1 supercar. BMW Motorsport tuned the suspension of the CSi, specifying stronger wheel hubs, stiffer shocks, and a 10mm lowered ride height compared with a standard 850i. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential. The top end of the engine was completely serviced in 2020 and included new fuel injectors, fuel lines, spark plug wires, cam bolts, tensioner bearings, and rebuilt throttle bodies. During his ownership, the seller has also installed H&R lowering springs, Bilstein shocks, Greg K sway bars, a front strut bar, and adjustable camber plates.

This sale will include the original owner’s manuals and literature, a set of two keys, the original BMW mobile phone and center console trim, a concours award from 2003, and a clean title. A true modern classic with iconic styling, this 850CSi presents a rare opportunity to own one of the most highly sought-after BMWs ever made.

@RArmstrong997 Because PCAR negotiated with the Seller and the last highest bidder at the end of auction and they came to terms with the price.

How was the winning bidder able to place a $92,000 bid that was apparently 27 minutes after the auction ended?

Hi all bidders, thanks for bidding.
There will be no disappointments with this car. It is as close to pristine as any CSi in the US.
I have been a BMW concours judge in various places and I am familiar with most of the CSi's I have seen. This car is really super clean and properly maintained. For those of you that know these cars, among the other items that I have maintained and replaced for preventative maintenance, it is also of importance that the headlight buckets were also replaced so that there is no issue with the headlight adjusters etc.
The taillight lenses were also replaced and it has a brand new "850 CSi" emblem on the trunk as well as previously replaced BMW roundel emblems.

The car then sold as a BMW CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) car at around 20+K miles to the person I bought it from in Marin County California

  • dongood (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

I do have an original sales receipt from the original buyer. It looks like the car went out the door at $104.5K.

The CSi is considered an extremely special and very rare vehicles in the history of BMW. The CSi is an engineering masterpiece and they will always be one of the most desirable and collectible vehicles BMW has ever engineered. There are only 225 CSi vehicles that was imported to the U.S. (with U.S. Specifications). The CSi is the pinnacle of BMW’s flagship of the E31 8 Series, and they are a total gem and gorgeous in every aspect with crisp handling, and high performance and acceleration with 6 Speed Manual Transmission. The M Power logo is displayed all throughout the car, therefore the CSi is considered an M8 without the actual M8 badge. Good luck to all bidders, you will definitely love this CSi.

@Archer1 Hello, you are correct on the wheels being mounted backwards, they were correct until I had them refinished two months ago, and they inadvertantly mounted them back incorrectly.

  • Archer1 (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@dongood- Beautiful car, love the color combo. It looks like the rear wheels are mounted incorrectly, the long side of the throwing-stars should point to the front, like the front wheels. You just need swap the rear wheels, left to right , and right to left.
