The G-Class, also known also known as the Geländewagen or G-Wagen, has gained recognition for its durability, utilitarian design, and impressive off-road performance. The W461 generation debuted in 1993 with the same chassis as the W460, the powertrain of the newer W463, and enhanced creature comforts, upgraded driving dynamics, and a 2.9-liter inline-five diesel engine. This 1995 example comes finished in Nato Green over black & plaid upholstery and features a rarely seen overhead gun turret. This G-Wagon is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
This example is said to have been refinished in its factory-specified shade of Nato Green (6431) and features black trim and bumpers, rear mud flaps, caged fog lights, a rear window wiper, and a rear-mounted spare wheel. It rides on aftermarket black-finished alloy wheels dressed in all-terrain tires. The seller recommends a full wet sand & polish and notes some rust bubbles are present on the rear bumper area along with a paint crack on the driver’s side door. The cabin features black vinyl upholstery complemented by plaid cloth inserts. Equipment includes a rare gun turret roof hatch, front bucket seats, a rear bench seat, folding trunk seats, a 4-spoke steering wheel, VDO instrumentation, a quartz clock, roll-up windows, differential lock controls, and a locking glovebox. The seller notes the center console is distorting, the ignition panel cover is missing, and some gauge needles occasionally get stuck and need to be tapped to recenter. All safety features and lights are said to be working properly.
Power comes from a 2.9-liter inline 5-cylinder OM602 diesel engine that drives all four wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission with a dual-range transfer case and locking front and rear differentials. The seller states that the previous owner reportedly overhauled the cooling system and although there is no supporting paperwork, and the radiator, electric fan, and other components appear to be in newer condition. The seller also recommends changing all fluids.

I am familiar with these vacuum systems and have a suggestion, 1st of all they are not complicated. It is a closed loop of vacuum lines that go to and back from the actuator which is a shaft that slides either in or out to engage /disengage the locker. Typically there is either grease & dirt debris that limits the range of motion or a cracked or leaking vacuum line that can often be fixed by simply shortening it as they usually crack or swell at the ends that fit over the vacuum nipple You may need a pair of needle nose pliers to encourage the engagement shaft a bit. The other repair that is sometimes needed is to replace the plastic vacuum actuator if the diaphragm has ruptured. Just went through this repair on my 1986 Vanagon Syncro and the part was only $35 along with a few dollars in vacuum lines.

I attempted to use the diff lockers today. I was unable to actuate the front, and I believe the rear locker is now stuck. I'm very unfamiliar with these systems as I never touched them prior to this request. It's possible I'm not doing something correctly, but the 4WD system engaged without any hesitation. I did some quick googling to see if I'm working it correctly, I believe I am, but I'm afraid to continue messing with it in case I cause any type of damage. This is a disclosure that while the car is moving now if the rear diff is locked, it is not safe to my knowledge to operate this on public roads until it's resolved.

@ionyota It's been in the country since May of 2023 and was put on the road in August of 2023. I've put roughly 250-300 miles on it.
@nutbags As posted in the listing, it is TMU (True Mileage Unknown). It was purchased from Poland and was a former officer vehicle for road use to the best of our knowledge.

Where is this G-Wagon originally from? With the 5-digit odometer, is the mileage listed 100% accurate/correct? Diesel G-Wagon is the way to go almost anywhere.

@ionyota I will not take a video going from a stop to highway speeds. To give context, the vehicle is very slow. It's about 95HP and 115LB TQ in a large off-roading vehicle. 0-100KMH is about ~ 13 seconds, and that's my guess. (Not comfortable doing that in NY with lots of traffic, holding my phone, shifting gears, and trying to capture the speedo/tach) I felt comfortable traveling about 110-120KPH (MAX) Which is roughly 70mph tops. Generally, I would cruise around 60-65mph and 5th gear is purely for highway use, putting around town I would be in 4th. I'm happy to take some more videos tomorrow when I'm in the car. I personally have not acuated any of the lockers while using it this summer. I'll also be sure to capture the drip rails and exterior edges of the turret hole. Thanks for your interest and please let me know if you have any other requests as the car is sitting in my warehouse.
@seller, Can you post some pictures of the top of the drip rails around the roof, and the exterior edges of the turret hole. Looking for any corrosion that is/isn’t present. Thanks.
