Now available for auction is this 1995 Porsche 993 Carrera Cabriolet finished in Guards Red over a Cashmere Beige and Black interior.  Representing the final generation of the air-cooled 911, this 993 features a 6-speed manual transmission and came factory optioned with the Comfort and Power Seat Packages, supple leather upholstery, Hi-Fi Sound Package, and 17” Cup Design wheels.  It was purchased by the current owner in 2004 and was subsequently treated to a preemptive engine overhaul along with subtle modifications including red instrument dials, polished exhaust tips, an FVD short shifter, and aluminum pedal covers.  Maintained at the legendary Brumos Porsche dealership throughout the current ownership, this 993 highlights a comprehensively documented service history and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida with just over 92k miles showing on the odometer.

This 993 is finished in Guards Red with a black cabriolet soft top and tonneau cover.  The car is said to have been garage kept by the current owner, and the seller notes a broken headlight washer nozzle, some frayed areas of cloth around the rear soft top window, and one small scratch on the front hood.  Additional images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  Mirror-polished exhaust tips have been installed, the brake calipers have been painted red, and this Carrera rides on factory 17” Cup Design wheels fitted with optional colored center crests and Michelin Pilot Sport tires which are recommended for replacement due to age.

Inside, this 993 features a Cashmere Beige and Black interior with optional supple leather front and rear seats, power-operated front seats, the Hi-Fi Sound Package, and the Comfort Package.  Custom red instrument dials have been installed as well as aluminum pedal covers, an FVD short shifter, and a Passport radar detector.  Some signs of wear are noted on the shifter and steering wheel, and the seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be working properly.

This 993 Carrera is equipped with an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine which sends as much as 272 HP and 243 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Upon the current owner’s purchase in 2004, this 993 was brought to Brumos Porsche for a preemptive engine service to address some oil leaks and ensure proper mechanical order.  The clutch and shock absorbers are also said to have been replaced around this time.  The alternator was replaced in June of 2012 along with the valve cover gaskets in 2013.  All other routine maintenance is said to have been addressed through Brumos Porsche with a large collection of records accompanying the sale.

Included with the sale of this 993 are a toolkit, spare tire, air compressor, a set of two keys, a Porsche car cover, a Porsche battery charger, a collection of service records, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a framed PCA magazine feature, and a clean title.  This well-maintained 993 is an excellent choice for any enthusiast in search of an air-cooled Cabriolet, do not miss out.

The best of the Porsche EFI systems in a non-OBD-II configuration.

@Automotive8r Thanks for this info. The hood point seems to also explain why the options sticker is missing.

  • Automotive8r 2 years, 9 monthsago

2 quick things to point out...
Original paint on a Porsche 911 of this year should be in the 3-4 range.
Also, an R/DOT sticker means that it has been replaced (the hood).

I'm standing by to help anyone with questions. Someone is going to get a great deal on this Guards Red beauty!

  • justneedsatune (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@porsche_dreamer you'll have to direct message me; I am not sure I can send you one. I just got permission to share the tech's number.

  • justneedsatune (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@porsche_dreamer The oil was changed annually from 2012 to 2019 but the annual change did not occur in 2020 or 2021. I get that "in God we trust, all others bring receipts" applies here, but unfortunately no receipts are available. I have sent another text to the tech and will message you his info if he chooses to volunteer it. While I don't feel comfortable guaranteeing that a car of this age/mileage is without any weep or leak whatsoever, it certainly does not have any drips and as you can see the engine bay is dry.

  • porsche_dreamer (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@justneedsatune One more question pls - does this car have any leaks?

  • porsche_dreamer (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@justneedsatune Can the owner instead speak to the maintenance that has been performed in the last 9 years? The concern here is that there are no maintenance records and there is no mechanic who can speak to the maintenance. Was there at least an annual oil change?

  • justneedsatune (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@porsche_dreamer said mechanic has not responded to request to share his info

  • porsche_dreamer (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@justneedsatune Thanks for answering my follow-up questions. Is it possible to share the contact info of the former Brumos mechanic who can speak about this car?

  • justneedsatune (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Good morning everyone. Today is the day! I'll do my best to answer any further questions you have and good luck to everyone bidding. Someone is going to be really enjoying some top-down cruising in a beautiful 993!

Paint meter readings have been added to the listing gallery.

  • justneedsatune (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

I just uploaded paint meter readings. The car was fairly uniform except I found one spot which was evidently touched up. It is just in front of the passenger mirror, on the top of the fender. It is visually evident once you know to look. I have uploaded a photo capturing it the best I can. It appears hand-applied and not sprayed and the section is maybe two inches across. There was also one high reading near the driver headlight but that area did not appear abnormal. On the edge of the driver door behind the handle was another small defect that was difficult to photograph.

@porsche_dreamer I mentioned before trying to get in touch with the tech who worked on the car for some clarity on this; apparently at some point he left Brumos but continued working on the car hence the reduction in records. I'm trying to find out more.

  • porsche_dreamer (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@justneedsatune Thanks for the update and info.

Look forward to the paint meter readings.

Also, has there been any/much maintenance performed on the car since 2012 or so? We see the entries on the Carfax for Brumos Porsche but not much after. Maybe at least an annual oil change?

  • justneedsatune (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@porsche_dreamer Okay everyone so some bad news, as @porsche_dreamer the last two carfax mileages in 2012 were 92,400 in march 2012 and 92,402 in November. 2012 is when tires were last mounted and the car stopped being regularly driven, but the exact mileage reading as seen in the recent photos is 92,290. I dug into this and asked the owner (again, I am just the photographer / running the listing trying to help a friend here) and he confirmed that indeed the odometer is not turning. Presumably he failed to notice due to the infrequency of driving the car. I realize that this is a big deal and I apologize that I didn't catch this sooner. That being said, the car definitely has been mostly parked since 2012 anyways (still on 2012 date code tires) and the actual mileage is very likely still under 95,000, and there is no brand on the title. I have discussed this with PCarMarket and they have advised that we lower the reserve to reflect this. Again my apologies about this. I am trying to be as transparent as possible and I hope this does not significantly detract from the car's otherwise excellent condition.

@porsche_dreamer I am planning to take paint depth readings this afternoon.

  • justneedsatune (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@mx114 hello, thanks for commenting. I do see in the photo what you're talking about. It doesn't look that bad in real life (I never noticed until you said something and I checked the photos) but that being said this car hasn't been deep-cleaned like a pro detailer would do with a powered brush or hot water extractor. It could certainly be freshened up a bit by a pro to get extra-clean.

  • mx114 (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Is it me or the images but the carpet in the rear looks dirty/stained.... just curious...

  • porsche_dreamer (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@justneedsatune Thank you. Also, the hood seems to be missing the options sticker. Perhaps paint meter readings can put me (and others) at ease about originality of paint. Thanks again.

  • justneedsatune (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

I've received a few requests for videos of the top, walkarounds, etc. The owner isn't feeling great so out of an abundance of health caution I let him and his wife record these videos for me to post up. This is all well and good except that one of them definitely has the latest iPotato 4S so the quality on some of the videos are terrible. I can try and get better videos for those who are interested.

  • justneedsatune (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@porsche_dreamer thank you for your interest and questions.

So a little bit of clarity here I am managing this listing for the owner who is not very social media-savy. Hence sometimes it takes me a day to get the answer you're looking for. I did recently acquire a paint meter so I could go shoot the car but we are almost certain it is all original paint. It certainly hasn't received any paint work during the current ownership. The car has been in the "I'm going to sell it, so I'll park it in the garage" state since 2012. The "fresh" tires are actually 2012 date code (but look full tread depth still), which is why we strongly recommend their replacement. But let that be evidence of the fact that this car has pretty much been parked or driven a couple miles to the dealer for maintenance since 2012. The clutch was last replaced in 2004. We are getting in touch with the tech that has worked on this car during the current ownership to ask permission to share his contact info as a reference for any interested buyers. The car is for sale to free up some cash for retirement, and because it hardly gets driven anymore. It has been a garage queen for so many years while many other fun cars have come and gone, and it has always been that "special" car but it's a shame to let it sit when it could be enjoyed by the next person. Regarding the most recent carfax mileage entry, that is odd and I am looking into that. I suppose it could be a data entry error but I'll chase it down.

    Hi seller,

    Beautiful car!

    Have a few questions:

    1) Do you have a paint meter reading of the car? If not, is the car of factory paint?
    2) What did you do with the car the last 9 years or so? It seems like the mileage reading has remained the same (and in fact, the pic shows a lower mileage reading than the latest Carfax entry). Has there been any maintenance?
    3) Can you share a start-up and idle video?
    4) When was the clutch last replaced?
    5) Why are you selling?

    Thank you.

@artichoke also, thank you for your interest inquiry!

  • justneedsatune (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@artichoke in the gallery you'll see a receipt for the engine overhaul; the parts are mostly tune-up items like valve stem seals and gaskets. It was not due to any failure, but rather just to keep the engine tight and dry for the long term. No previous damage or issues. There are some remarks about work done on the top but it has not been replaced completely in the last 17 years at least. The carfax (also available in the gallery) shows 3 owners, with the current ownership of 17 years being the longest by far. The 2nd owner was for just over a year.

  • artichoke (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

How many owners? Any previous damage or issues. Why was there a "preemptive engine overhaul"? Is it the original convertible top?

  • justneedsatune (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

Please feel free to post up any questions! Have something else you'd like to see a photo of? Post it up! Looking forward to seeing this beauty go to a new owner after 17 years.
