We are pleased to present this 1996 Porsche 993 Carrera Targa finished in Black Metallic over a Classic Grey interior.  Introduced in 1996 as the first 911 to feature a sliding glass roof system, the 993 Carrera Targa is based upon the reinforced platform of the Cabriolet and comes standard with exclusive 17” two-piece wheels.  This inaugural model year example was delivered new in Canada and currently resides under the care of its owner in New York where it is now being offered for auction showing approximately 81k kilometers (50k miles) on the odometer.

This 993 was ordered in Black Metallic (Schwarzmetallic, L744), a precursor to the modern shade of Basalt Black Metallic.  The 993 Targa introduced a new roof system comprised of a green-tinted laminated glass roof section that slides beneath the rear window for an open-air driving experience.  The CARFAX report shows damage claims filed in 2009 and 2012, and the seller reports some areas of the car to have been refinished.  Several cosmetic imperfections are depicted throughout the exterior including chips below the driver-side door sill and a cracked black stone guard over the driver-side rear quarter panel.  Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a full CARFAX report.  The Targa-exclusive 17” two-piece wheels come fitted with colored Porsche crest center caps and a set of Continental ExtremeContact tires.

Inside, the 993 features a Classic Grey interior with power-adjustable comfort seats, an upgraded Kenwood stereo, and an Exclusive aluminum-trimmed handbrake and gear knob.  The Targa model came standard with a high-capacity air conditioning system including defroster vents for the rear quarter windows.  The front seats have been replaced and some signs of wear are present on the bolsters as well as a mark on the base of the driver-side rear seat.  The upholstery is also beginning to separate from the inner driver-side roof rail and below the passenger-side B-pillar. The retractable shade for the roof is currently inoperable, although the seller reports this will be fixed prior to delivery.

This 993 is equipped with an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine rated at 282 HP.  The rear wheels are driven by way of a 6-speed manual transmission, and stopping power comes from fixed four-piston brakes paired with cross-drilled rotors front and rear.

This sale will include a spare tire, jack, and a clean title.  A potential mileage discrepancy is shown on CARFAX, possibly resulting from a clerical error made during registration. Now is your chance to get behind one of the rarest and most sought-after Porsche 993s of all, do not let this 6-speed 1996 Targa pass you by.

    @nosubC2de Thank you.

  • nosubC2de (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    @porsche_dreamer yes apparently they said it’s a clerical that unfortunately happens and they are addressing it. We didn’t know if it till we pulled the carfax and it has been in our possession and never went back to Ontario. Carfax is verifying it and should remove both the mileage mileage discrepancy, registration and accident since it doesn’t belong to this vehicle.

    @nosubC2de

    The second last page of the CarFax suggests moderate damage on 4/24/2021 to the car.

    Are you clarifying here that CarFax has an error in its entry here and no such damage occurred?

  • nosubC2de (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    I have removed the reserve and it will sell to highest bidder. Someone will get a very good targa 993 in great color combination. Good luck all!!!

  • nosubC2de (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    @porsche_dreamer I am not certain what moderate accident you referring to on 2021 as there has not been any accident during our ownership. If you referring to the moderate accident back in 2009 it was previous to our ownership and it was for an amount notes as CAD$1371. If you referring to the clerical mistake from either carfax or Ontario motor vehicles that has been addressed to carfax.

    Seller, could you give some colour/info as to the 2021 moderate accident per CarFax? Thanks.

    @arokhsar 1. When was major service done on this car? Previous owner had done major service before our purchase however records were never included. Car runs like the day we picked it up and since we have put so very few miles in our ownership and always kept up with fluids changes, our own mechanic suggested we didn't need to address the mayor yet.
    2. Do you have any of the service records? We have several receipts from AC module replacement and ABS pump and I am sure there are few more but will have to dig out.
    3. CarFax says the vehicle came to the Florida in 2014, when did it come to New York? - It only came up to NY very recent since I am consolidating and deciding on what to keep and what to pass on to next custodian.
    4. I do not leave far from Flushing, NY. Would I be able to see the car? - Yes by all means, please contact me privately thru direct message and we can make appointment for you to come see and set up a test drive.

    Thank you for your interest

    @sportscarguy3 Very good looking 993 Targa- Thank you so much she is very attractive for sure

    1. All original suspension correct, non-adjustable Bilstein coil overs- They are oem and not coilovers and ride sporty and supple as any well balanced 993, I will even say it rides better than my turbo since the turbo rides on 18"
    2. Original clutch- I believe it is and has no signs of slippage and driven by adults all its life
    3. Any major service, repairs, engine ever out? - Aside from normal fluids, the engine was gone through by my mechanic and all sounds and runs proper, no excessive valve train noise and no CEL. We had ECU doctor replace the AC control unit and also replaced abs pump and bled correctly.
    Thank you for you interests

    @rkilmon68 the inner driver's side roof rail upholstery is the trim that's part of the headliner that wraps up the sides of the targa opening. The glue has come undone and I will have someone fix it before new owner takes possession. I will submit a more detailed photo to Pcar. Picture is definitely worth more than a thousand words.

    @nosubC2de
    in your description, you talk about the "upholstery" coming away from the "inner drive's side roof rail..." are you talking about the headliner?

  • nosubC2de (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @rkilmon68 thank you for you interest and you kind bid. The car had 2 minor accidents from 1st owner. I believe I am 3rd owner. Based on the amount required to fix I am sure they were very minor accidents as recorded in carfax for CAD$1371 and CAD$2409 which in today's money I wouldn't be able to replace a painted bumper.

    @nosubC2de thank you for the additional information! Is the car accident-free?

  • nosubC2de (seller) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    @jbauto Thank you for the comment. I am so used to the 4 spokes that it almost come natural. In fact I used to have a 3 spoke 996 carbon wheel on my 993 turbo that I actually find it somewhat weird in hand placement now. I put back the original wheel and I am content again. 3 spokes does look a lot more handsome though. I may post some of these original wheels for sale in future for those who wants to convert the oldsmobile style 4 spokes back to a more sporty look and feel.

  • jbauto (registered bidder) 2 years, 4 monthsago

    Very nice Car. Love the Roof and the Wheels. Nice spec. I always wondered why they put an Oldsmobile steering wheel in these. Just an total oversight from Porsche. GLTA

    Thank you for your interests in our 993 Targa. This Targa has been with our small collection for about 7 years now. Let me say this car drives and looks like it should. It has had a very pampered life during our ownership, fluids changed in good intervals and sleeps under a enclosed room all its life. One of the reasons we pursue this particular Targa was due to it being a 6 speed our first criteria and we also wanted a low key color yet rare enough that it wasn't always seen in car meets. We get a lot of compliments for the targa top, seems many car enthusiasts still not aware that the 993 Targas were the originators of the pano roof in all later cars. Car starts without immobilizer which is a big plus if anyone knows anything about these older 90's immobilizers used in these 993 and 90s Ferraris you will not start the car if your remote fob battery goes dead or if you dropped your remote in a puddle, ask me how I know... Anyways I am sadden to see it go just as I were to sell any of my cars no matter its a daily or its a weekender but life moves on and its time for me to part off some of my toys.
    @artichoke You may be right about the gray as I feel its always a little lighter than classic and yet its not as light as my friends marble gray interior. There are no issues with engine lights of such and really needs a new custodian. The manifolds never needed cleaning nor replacement under our ownership and never exhibited any check engine light that would suggest so.
    @rkilmon68 I will post photos of the plate as soon as I get the picture and submit it. Carfax has been notified of the clerical issue on the last entry. I reckon I have had carfax screw up information before and probably not the last I will see from them. Car has not left our possession since 2014. I will be sending a few more cars out of our collection to Pcars so they will be going to good homes. Thank you for your interests and bids.

    Hi,

    Are you sure the interior is not Rubicon Gray? I have a 96 C4Cab in Black with Rubicon Gray interior which has a slightly purple tint to it.

    Any check engine light issues? Have the manifold vent ports ever been cleaned or replaced?
