Featuring a newly designed sliding glass roof system, the Porsche 993-generation 911 Targa was introduced in 1996 and was sold through 1998 with only 4,583 examples produced in total. This Porsche 993 Targa is one of 462 sold in the United States during the model year and finished in Grand Prix White over a Marble Grey leather interior. It comes equipped with an optional Tiptronic automatic transmission, Porsche crest embossed headrests, leather-covered instrument gauge bezels, an aluminum shift knob and handbrake, an OEM rear seat delete, upgraded Bilstein B6 shocks, M030 springs and sway bars, 18” Tramont RS II Cup wheels, HID headlights, Soul performance cat bypass pipes, Fister Stage 2 exhaust, a Turbo-style front bumper, and more. The car was purchased by the seller in 2022 from its second owner of 15 years and benefits from a complete engine rebuild performed in 2017. This rare 993 Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California with approximately 138k miles showing on the odometer.

This example is finished in Grand Prix White and has been modified with a Turbo-style front bumper, clear European-spec turn signals lenses and bumperettes, an HID headlight kit, and aftermarket Tramont RS II Cup wheels measuring 18 X 8.5" front and 18" x 10" rear. The car rides on a set of Sumitomo tires (235/40/18 and 285/30/18) mounted within the last 3k miles and the original 17” Speedline Targa wheels are included in the sale. The seller notes both bumper covers have been refinished, and the headlight washers and "basket handle" rear brake light spoiler were deleted with painted plugs installed. Additionally, the car’s exterior has undergone paint correction, ceramic coating, and an application of clear paint protection film over the front end. Detailed images are provided in the galley along with a clean CARFAX report.

Inside, this Targa features Marble Grey leather upholstery complemented by Florentine Grey carpeting and an OEM aluminum shift knob and handbrake. Driver amenities include power-operated seats, automatic air conditioning cruise control, a power sunshade and sliding glass roof, and a Porsche Traffic Pro stereo. Other equipment includes Porsche crest-embossed headrests, leather-covered instrument gauge bezels, an OEM rear seat delete, and an upgraded OEM pedal kit. The seller notes the original rear seats are included with the sale and the front seats show some wear on the driver’s side bolster.

An air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 282 HP to the rear wheels through a 4-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The seller notes a full engine rebuild was completed in 2017 including replacements of all the seals, piston rings, bearings, timing chains, and exhaust valves and guides. The car has been modified with M030 Sport Suspension springs and sway bars, Bilstein B6 HD shocks, a Fister Stage 2 exhaust, and Soul Performance cat-bypass pipes. The original catalytic converter is included in the sale.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, workshop books, a toolkit, a spare tire, the original rear seats and 17” wheels, a catalytic converter, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “The 993 Targa was produced between 1996-1998 totaling 4,583 for the entire world. 462 were produced for the US market in 1996 and less than 200 were in Grand Prix White so it's a somewhat rare spec Targa.  The car runs strong with no issues and looks great.  The previous owner I purchased it from owned it for 15 years and was a great steward of the car (incl. having the rebuild performed in 2017).  He kept all of the records from the original owner and under his ownership.  I did the same and had maintenance done only by the best P-car shops here in the SF Bay Area (RMG Enterprises and Dino Motors).  I had the car completely paint corrected, ceramic coated, and the full front PPF'd to maintain the car's exterior integrity as much as possible.”

@Gelains Congrats! You won't be disappointed. The previous owner and myself put a ton of love into this car.
This car is unique and has so much charm and character! I'll be sad to see it go but it deserves to be out there and driven more than just sitting in the garage. I'll wait to hear back from PCM on getting in contact so we can finalize the transaction. Thanks all for the interest!

@JapperJones There is a Contact Seller button at the bottom of the page below. There was no recent PPI done on the car. If you read my first introduction below, it details a couple minor things found by RMG when I purchased the car. The engine was completely rebuilt approximately 10k miles ago and is very solid mechanically. The car runs very strong and smooth.

  • JapperJones (registered bidder) 1 monthago

@3point2 too many to go over, was hoping to phone - if that is allowed on PCAR - came across this late and am interested in car.

Do you have any PPI's possible to share? Or has a potential buyer obtained one and maybe I can work out something with them for receiving their info?

  • 3point2 (seller) 1 monthago

@JapperJones I’m not sure of your question. The car is currently registered in California. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • JapperJones (registered bidder) 1 monthago

How can I contact the seller? Registration mandates bidding? Any info is appreciated.

@GrandNatty After further reading online, I believe the Exclusive program includes anything listed with an X in the options list is included. For this particular 993, it is the following:

XF5 – Leather covered instrument rings
X46 – Aluminium Tiptronic selector lever
X98 – Aluminium parking brake lever

  • 3point2 (seller) 1 monthago

@GrandNatty I believe Artic White was the standard white color during the time and Grand Prix White was an option. Unfortunately, I don't know what the Exclusive program option entailed. A quick internet search gives some information.

"09991 = Means the car has an option from the Sonderwunsch Programm, now called Exclusive. It can range from a full leather interior with even the radio dials in leather to for instance your XD4 code: Porsche crest rim caps."

  • GrandNatty (registered bidder) 1 monthago

    @3point2 - perfect

    Do we know why these?

    00051 – Special order color
    09991 – Exclusive program

Grand Prix white was special order in 1996?

And was that they special wishes item or what were the exclusive options as noted by 9991?

I get it if you do not know :)

  • 3point2 (seller) 1 monthago

@GrandNatty Yes, I have the rear seat belts. I can have the car smogged for a CA buyer. If you have any other questions, ask anytime! This has been a great cruiser/canyon car at the local car events and gets a tons of eyes and questions for the unique trim the car is being a Targa. The car originally had tinted windows when I purchased it. When I had the tint removed, the natural light with the light gray leather interior give a beautiful open feel even with the top closed. Sunny days are definitely fun with this car.

  • 3point2 (seller) 1 monthago

@GrandNatty Here is how the options sticker under the hood decodes

    L908 – Grand Prix White
    PT – Florentine Grey
    C02 – Catalytic converter
XF5 – Leather covered instrument rings
X46 – Aluminium Tiptronic selector lever
X98 – Aluminium parking brake lever
    159 – Engine sound package
    249 – Tiptronic transmission, 4-speed
432 – Tiptronic buttons for steering wheel
    437 – 8-way electrical seat, left
    438 – 8-way electrical seat, right
    454 – Automatic speed control
    490 – Sound system
498 – Without model designation on rear end
    659 – Board computer
    688 – CD-radio Becker Porsche CDR-210 USA
939 – Pleated leather rear seats
982 – Pleated leather front seats
    00051 – Special order color
    09991 – Exclusive program
    16981 – Embossed headrests-Porsche crest

The OEM rear seat delete was there when I purchased the vehicle from the previous owner. Given it's not on the options code list, I would assume it was installed by one of the 2 previous owners. It is a Porsche item that you can obtain from the dealer. Although I don't believe it's available anymore new and it's a somewhat desirable item seeked out in the used market. The OEM Ultimate pedals kit and The Porsche Traffic Pro Stereo are also Porsche items but were not installed new from what I was told. The matching leather gauge rings, and aluminum handbrake and aluminum tiptronic shifter lever were optioned new when the car was purchased as per the Options code list above.

  • GrandNatty (registered bidder) 1 monthago

@3point2 - sorry, assume you can deliver the car to a CA buyer w/ a CA SMOG pass per the law?

  • GrandNatty (registered bidder) 1 monthago

@3point2 - do you have the rear belts along w the rear seats as I have a kid who likes to go for drives w/ dad.

  • GrandNatty (registered bidder) 1 monthago

@3point2 - looks great! Sorry, you've broadly laid out what its a mod and what is OEM on this car but can you be specific. Like when I read "OEM rear seat delete" that could be "mod but w/ OEM parts" or "OEM ordered that way" etc.

@100smilesagallon Appreciate that. I wanted to keep the car period correct with the modifications. The wheels, Euro-converted bumpers, and delete plugs just accentuated the already beautiful lines of the 993 even more I think.
Thanks! The car rides stiffer than the OE 993s I've rode in because of the more aggressive valving of the Bilstein struts and the lower height. But it's still compliant on the road from my perspective. The reason for the sale is because I hardly ever get to drive the car due to a new addition to the family. These cars run better when driven and not just sitting in the garage. It gets out every 2 weeks at most at the local Cars and Coffee or Porsche event. The car had an oil and filter change approximately 500 miles ago and there is no deferred maintenance items any time in the near future that need to be done. The car has been very reliable since I've taken ownership and runs very smooth and strong. The full top and bottom rebuild will leave the next owner with not having to worry about any major items coming in the foreseeable future. Just get in, drive, drive hard, and enjoy!

  • nickywheelz12 (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

@seller beautiful car! How does the car ride ? Why are you selling ? What maintenance will need to be done in the near future ?

  • 100smilesagallon (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

I remember making an attempt to purchase this very same car when it was listed on a forum. Looks even better now with mods you have done. GLWTA.

Hello PCM Community! Thanks for taking a look at the auction for my 993 Targa. It's been a joy with this car. I've owned for almost 2 years now and have taken great care of it similar to the previous owner who was a great steward of the car for 15 years. He purchased it from the original owner and I have a 3-ring binder full of records since then. The engine was rebuilt at 127K miles and will leave the next owner a worry-free experience for many years to come. Many times I purchase a car based on the owner more so than the car itself. When I purchased the car from the previous owner, we ended up talking for a few hours after the test drive and I really got a good sense he took great care of the car (incl. the rebuild) during his ownership. I've done some tasteful period correct modifications to the car including the Tramont wheels, the plug deletes for the basket handle spoiler and headlight washer nozzles, and Euro-conversion on the front and rear bumpers. I've taken the car to local Cars & Coffee and canyon runs with local P-car air-cooled clubs, and it turns heads where ever it goes. After spirited driving with the P-car folks, they are surprised to see it's a tiptronic because it easily keeps up with the crowd. I had the car thoroughly inspected by RMG Enterprises here in the South Bay Area, CA when I initially purchased it. It had a CV boot in the rear driver's side that I had replaced but for the most part, the car is solid mechanically. Some minor things they observed were the recirculation button on the climate control unit that needs to be repaired and a very small oil leak on the passenger side timing chain cover. I see one or two drops on the garage floor when the car sits for a couple weeks. RMG mentioned these are common issues and not worth the cost of the repair so decided to leave those items as is for now. As you can see in the video, the Targa roof works perfectly and really creates this open air feel with the full glass panel from front to back. It's one of the reasons why I wanted a Targa. If any one has any questions or wants additional pictures, please reach out anytime and I'll be happy to help give more detail. I would want this car to go to another good home as it is deserving of the same care it's received from it's previous owners. Good luck!
