It is our pleasure to present this 1996 Porsche 993 Carrera 4S Coupe finished in Midnight Blue Metallic over a two-tone Marble Grey and Midnight Blue partial leather interior.  Among the most desirable models of the final air-cooled generation, the Carrera 4S offers all-wheel-drive naturally aspirated performance coupled with the wide body styling of the 911 Turbo.  This particular example is equipped with an upgraded Bilstein coil-over suspension and features a unique color combination which is reported to have only been offered from 1995-1996.  With no expense spared on proper maintenance and upkeep by the current owner, this highly collectible Carrera 4S is now being offered for auction out of Texas while showing just over 56k-miles on the odometer.

This 993 is finished in the special-order color of Midnight Blue Metallic and the seller describes the paint to be all original, meter readings are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  The current owner had some cosmetic reconditioning carried out by GTI International Motorsport of Austin, TX. including restoration of the front bumper, refinishing of the wheels, and a full paint correction and ceramic coating treatment performed earlier in 2020.  The 4S shares its wide fenders, bumpers, red brake calipers, and wheels with the Turbo model.  This particular example was also fitted with a Turbo rear spoiler under previous ownership. The factory 18” Turbo Twist wheels feature special “4S” center caps and come dressed in Bridgestone Potenza tires.

Inside, this 993 has been appointed with a unique two-tone partial leather interior in Marble Grey and Midnight Blue.  Other factory features include an 8-way electrical driver’s seat with lumbar support, automatic speed control, a rear window wiper, and a power-operated sunroof.  A new Porsche Classic Radio was installed along with new speakers in 2020, and the original radio will accompany the sale as well.  Minor wear is noted on the driver’s seat bolster and all gauges and accessories are said to remain fully functional.

This 993 carries an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six engine that sends up to 282 HP to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission.  The 4S shares its larger “Big Red” Brembo brakes with the Turbo model.  This example has also been upgraded with a Bilstein PSS9 coil-over suspension which has been set to European ride height. In 2018, a major service was carried out by EK Performance in Montreal, Quebec including resealing of the gearbox, new valve cover gaskets, new timing chain covers and housing, crank seal, front sway bar bushings, and a left front axle seal. Under the current ownership, this 993 has been maintained by European Motorwerks of Austin, TX. The brake pads and rotors were recently replaced and a new battery was installed in 2021.  The results from a recent pre-purchase inspection and compression test are posted for reference in the photo gallery.

This sale will include a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the original radio and speakers, a toolkit, owner's manuals, spare tire, jack, an indoor car cover, and a clean Montana title. The 993 generation is sought after by collectors and driving enthusiasts alike, do not miss your chance to own this beautiful 1996 Carrera 4S.

    Great battle for the C4S

To those that did not win this one, there is another opportunity for you consider, the 1997 C2S that was produced in a lower number than the C4S. Check it out on PCARMARKET, Porsche made 2,327 Wide Body C4S Coupes and only 1,752 C2S Wide Body Coupes. Your going to really love it! The auction ends next Monday and you won't ever see another as nice as this C2S.

@Vince993s thanks for the comment and kind words. I had the same approach and share the sentiment on these cars.

On a separate unrelated note, I forgot to mention that I’d be happy to accept payment in btc or eth, should anyone prefer that to usd. Good luck to all in the final ~16 hours.

Slide 200 paint defects are noted below the wipers. Seller is being very transparent. Glad to see this appearance!! My 1997 C4S has the same exact appearance, but I do not have any rust anywhere, although that is a common area of concern for 964 and 993 Pcar. The spotted, pinhole and “fish eye like appearance” has bothered me for years and I just happened to bring it in to my body shop today to have it assessed. The owner said those are solvent pops and are likely occurring below the original factory paint. He has noted it on original paint but pointed out the appearance of swirls that are distinctive for factory paint that he has been unable to reproduce. It has bothered me for some time so I asked him if he would try wet sanding it. Now I may just hold off and consider it period correct “Patina”. I’d be interested if any others have experienced this.
The blue on grey is a gorgeous combination especially with the turbo spoiler. These cars are exceptional in so many ways. Wish the eventual owner the best, and condolences to the seller. I just bought my very same C4S back 2 months ago having regretted selling it 6 years ago. Nothing like a wide body air cooled 911.

@Rexrover The rust spots on these are all about what you don't see. Once you peel back the window seals and get in there the rust migration will be present. I had this same exact car, all the way down to the turbo wing and the Carnewal car cover, albeit with different interior, which I sold last year. I did the preventive rust repairs a few years ago before it migrated. This is something that will need to be done soon regardless of the car being driven and stored only on dry conditions. Per latest bidding seems this will sell so it is something to consider during the initial stages of new ownership.

@Vintage83 - yes, the A/C blows ice cold. thanks for looking at the auction

  • Vintage83 2 years, 11 monthsago

I've had a 9934S for a couple years now and just love these -- nothing like driving one. This one looks like a beautiful car in a unique spec. I absolutely love midnight blue and the blue steering wheel/dash is fantastic. Door strap is a common issue on these and not a difficult fix and window seal is easy to take care of. Does the A/C work as it should? With the PSS9's in place and the other work he mentioned it seems like a well sorted 993. Should get some heavy action given these guys have started trading mid-100's for standard colors!

I have sent pcarmarket a bunch of pictures and videos of the window trims all over as requested, those should be uploaded shortly. There are 2 areas of rust along the rim that I have not wanted to touch as it is all original paint, I have always kept it dry, and its hard to see even in person. I am taking my kids camping tmrw so will be offline Sat -Sun mornings, but around to catch up on any other questions after that. Thanks

    Morning

@TomP852 - re: door strap. I have no idea how it happened and I am no expert, but my understanding it its a long standing 911 issue, most common 964s and 993s and a result of door use, high winds, vallet opening too wide, etc. There are a lot of threads on how to address it and various approaches, how to prevent it if it hasn't happened yet, etc. All Porsche certified body shops are very familiar with it and can fix it as there was a recall in Germany for it but not in the states. It seems one method is to come from behind the fender to address it or they can remove the door to do it. Google "check door strap 993" to see a lot of before and after threads. As i mentioned, i will credit 2k to the buyer to get that done.

@993C2S - as you know, Pcar writes the listing and the check door strap was among the first things I mentioned. In regard to rust, I have had conflicting opinions on whether or not the car has anything "abnormal", so I had the PPI done and tried to take pictures of every inch of the car. I will take a ton of pics/vids for pcar this morning of all the glass edges for you and get those uploaded.

Finally, I have no interest in being anything except fully transparent with this vehicle and encourage any bidders to come see/drive it or send someone you trust to do it. Happy to bring it in for inspections anywhere around Austin. I can provide video or pics of any details you would like to see. If pcar can put us in touch, happy to facetime with the car with anyone. Finally, I want whoever buys this car to be fully satisfied with it as I have been and would be happy to work with the buyer to make any little nits right for them. I am not a dealer but I do typically buy/sell 25y+ old cars online every couple years and understand its tough to do remotely. If the buyer gets it delivered and wants something addressed, I am happy to make it right for them. In my opinion, this is a better-than-average widebody 993, but not a contours standard - obviously some of that is subjective. Good luck to all

  • TomP852 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Yes 993C2S check photo #82, clearly show damage that Rexrover mentioned in his opening statement for not having time to repair it. Yes no mention of rust do you have a picture number that bear out to what you are mentioning about rust?

  • 993C2S 2 years, 11 monthsago

No mention of the door check strap issue in the auction body, no clear photos of it, pretty strange given seller knew about it. I was discussing this car with a couple of well known enthusiasts , seller knows about the RUST issue with this car, very surprised it is ALSO no where mentioned in the ad.

Seller can you post photos of the windshield edges where rust usually is rite under the seal? Maybe I’m mistaken...I’m a firm believer in buying the seller especially when sight unseen and spending this kind of money.

Waiting to see pics of window seal areas. Thx

  • TomP852 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Looking very closely at picture 82 of the torn door strap, wonder how this could have happened, as there looks there is torn metal to outside of the door strap, seemingly part of the body. I would guess that the door has to be removed to repair the torn metal. Seems as though that there was considerable force or pressure to cause this to tear. Correct me if I'm wrong as I only have picture 82 to go by and my memory of how that area should normally look like. Hate to bother you about it but I think it's an important problem

@TomP852 Paint correction and 5 year ceramic coat was performed on 9/29/20, so ~5 months ago. Driven sparingly and covered when not in use since then. Last week 4/30 before the PPI I had brakes bled/flushed, replaced lower valve cover to address slight leak, new cabin filter, wipers and oil/filter service. This was all completed by GT International in Austin and I will include receipts in binder. I'm sure their owner/operator, who is a Porsche technician, Webster would be happy to walk through any additional questions as he knows the car well. Thanks

  • TomP852 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Last paint correction was early 2020?No real paint maintenance since?Just covered when not using correct? Not a problem just an informational question. Thanks

  • Rexrover (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@TomP852 I’m told it’s ~$1500 to do it right by a Porsche Indy. I didn’t realize it was gone until this week so didn’t have time to address — but if we hit the reserve, I will credit the buyer $2K to get that addressed. Thanks for the question.

  • TomP852 (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Any chance to get the driver's door strap fixed? Or are there time restraints to do so?

Appreciate everyone looking at my auction and I will do my best answer all questions as quickly as I can.

I’ve owned this car for 2+ years and enjoyed every minute with it. I’ve done around 5k miles as its one of a couple I only use on nice weekend days or the occasional commute, otherwise it was stored covered in my garage. I haven’t ever tracked it but its seen some good hill country roads. I would describe it as a high quality driver in a rare color that looks blue in the sun but almost black in the shade or at night. I had to take photos a few different times to try and capture it in the sun here in Texas.

I had a PPI and compression test performed this week in an effort to be as transparent as possible, so please check that out and all the receipts in the gallery. I also encourage anyone local to Austin, TX to check it out. I am not personally very mechanically inclined (just like driving them), so I have used 2 great shops in Austin to take care of the things that need attention or bothered me when I got it. Some of those items were: installing a Porsche classic radio and better speakers (kept the factory stuff and not cutting), refurbishing/repainting the front bumper, lowering the PSS9s to euro spec, preserving the original paint with a ceramic coat, regular fluid changes and hand details, and a handful of mechanical items that needed to be addressed (see receipts). It drives great today as-is and I am using it without issue, but it will need a set of new tires and the door strap fixed – those were next up on my list but another car came along so I am selling this as-is. I always planned to swap back to an original rear deck but fell in love with the look of the turbo tail in the mirrors and think it looks period correct with the suspension not at SUV height. I don’t have the original and so the turbo tail is the only thing on the car not factory spec. I have an extra set of new genuine Porsche crest center caps if the 4S factory ones aren’t your thing. I will include both stereos, indoor felt cover, binder full of receipts back to ’05, original manuals and both original sets of keys & fobs. As stated, it has a clear Carfax, no accidents or paint work, clear Montana title in one on my company names and no liens of any sort. Good luck and let me know if you have questions.
