Representing the third generation of BMWs acclaimed 3-series, the E36 was named in Car and Driver’s 10Best list for every year it was on sale. This 1997 328i convertible was sold new in New Jersey, finished in Boston Green over a Sand Beige leather interior and equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, optional heated mirrors and washer jets, Dark Poplar wood trim, heated front seats, and a power convertible top. It is said to have remained under the care of the original owner until 2018 before it was acquired by the second owner in Georgia who replaced the entire front end suspension, brake pads, rotors, shocks, rear axle output shafts, and fitted a set of H&R lowering springs. Now showing just over 84k miles on the odometer, this 328i convertible is being offered for auction by its seller out of South Carolina.

This E36 was ordered in Boston Green (275) with a black-powered convertible soft top. Exterior equipment includes chrome kidney grilles, integrated fog lights, body-colored mirror caps and bumpers, and a dual-tipped exhaust outlet. The 16” Style 30 wheels wear Hankook Ventus tires mounted within the last 100 miles. The car has reportedly been garage-kept throughout its life and only minor imperfections are noted throughout the exterior.

The interior is upholstered in Sand Beige Montana leather, with power-adjustable and heated front seats accented by Dark Poplar wood trim. Amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, an onboard computer, a BMW HiFi speaker system, a roll-bar protection system, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The seller reports the airbag warning light is illuminated and the front door cards are beginning to separate. The convertible top is noted to be in proper working order.

This 328i is powered by a 2.8L M52B28 inline six-cylinder engine factory rated at 190 HP and 210 lb.-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven through a ZF 5-speed manual transmission. The CARFAX report shows dealership and specialty shop maintenance from 1997 up until 2018, and the seller reports the second owner was a BMW enthusiast who installed a full 10-piece front suspension kit,  new brake pads and rotors, shocks, rear axle output shafts, and fitted a set of H&R lowering springs.

This sale will include 2 sets of keys, owner’s manuals, extensive service documentation, and a rare BMW E36 convertible car cover.

@Asplund01 This is a common issue on older BMWs. Anytime the steering wheel is taken off and sometimes the battery disconnected the airbag light comes on. The airbag still works, but it must be reset. Unfortunately, you have to have a special tool to reset the airbag light (dealer), and cant be done from a regular scanner tool. The steering wheel is taken off many times when the front suspension is done, to recenter the wheel after alignment.

Any idea what might be causing the airbag light?

Hello everyone and thank you for checking out my 1997 328i. This has been a great car and such a clean example of the E36 chassis. I have been a BMW enthusiast for over 15 years and am the owner of Race German, an OEM and aftermarket BMW parts online store. Let me know if you have any questions about the car or would like to see something specific. Thanks and happy bidding.

Beautiful car! Boston Green is under appreciated as most examples have suffered a life of neglect. Will be an amazing spring/summer cruiser for someone!
