A successor to the 365 GTB/4 Daytona in Ferrari’s esteemed lineage of front-mounted V12 grand touring cars, the 550 Maranello is named after the town of Ferrari’s headquarters and features Pininfarina-designed bodywork underpinned by a 5.5-liter V12 mated to a traditional 6-speed gated manual transmission. It was unveiled in 1996 at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany and was produced up until 2002 with 3,083 units built in total. This 1997 example comes finished in Blue Le Mans over a Crema leather interior and was originally delivered by Garage Beau Rivage in Lausanne, Switzerland. The car is said to have had only two owners and is accompanied by an original service booklet showing maintenance entries in Geneva, Monaco, and Gstaad. Currently undergoing a major service with fresh cam belts, this 550 Maranello is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Switzerland while showing approximately 41k kilometers (25k miles) on the odometer.

The 550 Maranello is comprised of a Pininfarina-designed body laid over a tubular steel spaceframe chassis. It features a distinctive central air scoop on its long front bonnet which blends seamlessly with body-colored headlamps and a prominent grille with the Ferrari logo at its center. The front fenders are emblazoned with Pininfarina badges and incorporate functional air vents which help to cool the brakes and engine. Beyond the muscular rear quarter panels with top-mounted air intakes, a rounded trunk lid features an integrated spoiler that sits above circular taillights and a dual exhaust system with quad tailpipes. This example is finished in the rare shade of Le Mans Blue (516C) and rides on factory 18” 5-spoke magnesium alloy wheels mounted ahead of black brake calipers with white Ferrari lettering. The seller notes the front bumper was previously refinished to address road-going wear and a few stone chips are visible on the hood, although the car was recently polished and these imperfections are hardly noticeable. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is lined with blue carpeting and a matching dashboard contrasted by Crema Connolly leather hides on the door panels, center console, headliner, and Daytona-style sports seats. Details include a carpeted rear parcel shelf with leather luggage straps, drilled alloy pedals, stainless steel Ferrari-branded door sills, a gated shifter with a polished gear lever, and a three-spoke black leather-wrapped steering wheel. The driver is also provided with power seats, mirrors, and windows, air conditioning, an aftermarket Alpine stereo, analog Jaeger instrument dials, and additional gauges mounted above the center air vents which include a clock alongside dials for coolant temperature and fuel level.

The 550 Maranello derives up to 478 HP and 419 lb.-ft of torque from a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter F133 A V12 engine featuring dual overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, and a variable-length intake manifold. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential, providing acceleration from 0-60 MPH in approximately 4 seconds with a top speed of 199 MPH. The double wishbone suspension includes coaxial springs and dampers at each corner as well as front and rear anti-roll bars. Stopping power comes from vented disc brakes measuring 13” in front and 12.2” at the rear. The car also incorporates an adjustable electronic anti-slip regulation system as well as four-way ABS. The seller states the original maintenance booklet will accompany the sale and a major service will be completed including an inspection and new cam belts.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a car cover, an air pump, a battery charger, some documentation, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Beautiful European delivered (Swiss) two-owner 550 Maranello finished in Blue Le Mans over Crema Hyde (a rare combination). The car has only 25,400 Miles!”

@Imthedecidah always a good idea indeed to do an Alpine tour before shipping her to the US. We can provide number plates for a few months without a problem. Also nothing beats a good drive through the alps and the autostrada to Maranello with a Maranello.

@EMG01 yes we do, we have a full set, keys, schedoni leather pouch, took kit, tire rescue kit.

This is a tough one. I love the car but there is just so much uncertainty. It can’t be inspected and the costs to ship it and pay the taxes in the U.S. are unknown. If the seller would agree to deliver the car at his cost to the east coast of the U.S., I think the bidding would take off. Just a thought.

Great color combo. Do you have the leather tool box and the leather binder for the documents? How about the keys and alarm fobs - 1 read master and 2 black ones?

  • Imthedecidah (registered bidder) 9 months, 1 weekago

...here's the plan... win the auction, get seller to agree to store the 550 until September, get a temp permit through seller, ask seller for assistance in securing an export/import broker, plan your road trip through the Alps - all over Europe for that matter - then drop the 550 w/the broker for it's shipment home...

  • Imthedecidah (registered bidder) 9 months, 1 weekago

Long way to go on this one... Gorgeous!

  • Bbaravarian (registered bidder) 9 months, 1 weekago

  • Porschegstaad (seller) 9 months, 1 weekago

@markMARKO yes we can provide an equivalent to a carfax

  • Porschegstaad (seller) 9 months, 1 weekago

The last car we have shipped from Switzerland to the US midwest by air freight was under 15K USD and the whole process took 5 days from pick up to delivery. The last one we shipped by sea freight container took about three weeks and cost under 6k USD (including ground transportation).

  • markMARKO (registered bidder) 9 months, 1 weekago

This is a beautiful color combination on a very desirable Ferrari model. I am genuinely interested but have never purchased a vehicle from outside the US.
Is there an entity like CARFAX in Europe that can provide an accident history on this vehicle?
If not is there another way for you to provide that information? Thank you.

@JosiahBrooks RORO is fine if you're not worried about scratches and dents etc. I've heard some horror stories and something like this needs to be in a container. I know container prices have dropped since I shipped almost 18 moths ago but I was hoping to be done under $10k before paying taxes and import fees, no such luck. I doubt I will be doing it again anytime soon, the titling this side was also filled with drama. I should have just bought the car this side of the pond.
This is a great car but just my two cents worth on my experience. GLWS!

  • JosiahBrooks (registered bidder) 9 months, 1 weekago

@Bored Can you not just do RORO?

  • MANDREWS (registered bidder) 9 months, 1 weekago

I'm not trying to keep people from bidding. And the seller was right. the container itself should be $6k. I've never had a container selected to be x-rayed, but I do know it happens. The variable I don't know is the cost to transport the car from Gstaad to port.

@Porschegstaad, will you have paint meter readings posted before the auction closes?

  • Bored (registered bidder) 9 months, 1 weekago

@MANDREWS I imported a car from Germany last year, shared container from Rotterdam to NY, total cost was $16k not including the taxes and fees which will vary based on the value of the car. It also got held up by US Customs and they decided to x-ray and then do further manual checks which I had to pay for and the 3 weeks of storage at the port. Approx $3.5k (apparently it happens all the time) . The costs add up quickly.

MANDREWS: It sound like it is going to cost a lot more than $6,000.00 to get this Ferrari to Miami. It sound more like $10,000.00 all in. That extra cost is chilling my interest in this beautiful Maranello.

  • MANDREWS (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

I just posted in your other listing a breakdown of fees to get a car from europe to socal. Hope this is beneficial and not s distraction. One of the larger costs ironically will probably just be getting the car to port from heart of switzerland. clearly a container to the east cost is cheaper than that of one to the west coast...

Import costs for a recent container shipment of a car from rotterdam to socal:

    1. transport the car from Switzerland to port. ???
    2. export documentation costs - $400
    3. shared 40ft container - $3300 (you'll need to wait for a 2nd car to share the container or pay to ship solo)
    4. Transit insurance - it varies - probably about 1% of purchase price
    5. handling and unloading of container - $1250 - more if its solo shipment
    6. US customs clearance - $500
    7. Port congestion and fuel surcharges - $750
    8. Import Duty: 2.5% (of value of vehicle)
    9. Harbour Maintenance Fee: 0.125% (ocean freight only)
    10. Customs Surety Bond: 0.525% (min. $250 / max. $1500)
    11. Merchandise Processing Fee: 0.3464% (min $29.66 / max. $575.35)
    12. Delivery from port to you - ???

@BarryLe Hello, all the sticky plastics have been renovated, no sticky plastics on this car. The car was driven in the Lake Geneva region and only in Summer. To ship the car to Miami by Sea freight in a single container the cost is usually about 6'000 USD. As the car is older than 25 years of age it can be imported and registered without any problems in Florida.

  • Porschegstaad (seller) 9 months, 2 weeksago

@serwisdacar Yes we will upload the requested information, first thing in the morning. The car is currently registered in Switzerland with a clean title in hand.

  • Phoenix47 (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

    Hello,

Could you please provide pictures/documentation of the service history?

    Thanks

  • serwisdacar (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

    Hello @Porschegstaad,

Could you please attach paint measures and pictures of the service book stamps? Where is the cars currently registered? Looking forward to hear from you.

  • BarryLe (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

Porschegstaad: I have a few questions. Are there any sticky switches? I am assuming that this car has been driven just in the summer. Having skied in Gstaad many times, the 550 would not be an ideal winter car there. Can you tell me what the shipping and duty would cost to get the car to Miami, Florida? It is a beautiful 550 and I would like to own it. Thanks.

  • SIRAMED (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

Bleu TdF is also known to have purple highlights while NART Blue has Green highlights.
I have not seen this color directly so am excited to find out of a new blue with such depth in the metallic

  • SIRAMED (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

    Gorgeous color combination!

  • Porschegstaad (seller) 9 months, 2 weeksago

@Valor1 yes the blue has almost a hue of purple in it. Very different to the more common Blue TDF

  • Valor1 (registered bidder) 9 months, 2 weeksago

I have a 355 in Le Mans blue. One of the best colors as its a rich blue but with a red pearl light shifting effect. This is a super rare combination!
