We are pleased to offer this rarely seen 1997 Panoz AIV Roadster.  Designed by the highly exclusive Georgia-based sports car manufacturer Panoz, the AIV, or Aluminum Intensive Vehicle is a lightweight nearly all-aluminum version of the 4.6 L V8-powered Roadster model.  Representing 1 of only 176 hand-built examples created, this particular AIV was originally purchased by Sanderson Ford in Phoenix, Arizona where it was believed to have been under the care of the dealership’s owner up until very recently.  Showing only 2,385 miles on the odometer, this museum-quality AIV Roadster is now being offered by its seller out of Texas.

Reported to have been stored in a climate-controlled facility nearly it's entire life, the Red paint on this AIV is said to be as-new (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  Beginning in 1996, Panoz utilized their aluminum chassis for the Roadster model which was then paired with aluminum bodywork and protruding fiberglass fenders.  Other noteworthy features include a hood scoop, optional Plexiglass wind wings, and factory Kosei-Roush 18″ wheels.

The cockpit is appointed with Saddle leather upholstery.  Features include a leather-bound 3-spoke steering wheel and shift knob, and wood veneers on the center console and gauge cluster.  The original radio has been retained and the seller indicates all gauges and accessories to be fully functional.

Power comes from a 4.6 L DOHC V8 engine derived from Ford’s Mustang SVT Cobra.  Over 300 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed Bord-Warner T-5 manual transmission featuring a Ford 8.8-inch differential with Traction-Lok.  Weighing in at just under 2,600 lbs., the AIV is capable of accelerating from 0-60 MPH in as little as 4.5 seconds.  Other performance features include power rack and pinion steering, 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes, and independent suspension with adjustable coil-over shocks.  Upon the seller’s recent purchase, the car was fully inspected before all rubber lines, seals, and gaskets were replaced to maintain excellent mechanical order.  Routine oil changes are said to have been carried out from new and this AIV is said to be in like-new driving condition.

This sale will include 2 ignition keys, 1 glovebox key, a car cover, a copy of the owner’s manual, a toolkit, and a clean title.  Do not miss your chance to add this fascinating Panoz AIV Roadster to your collection.

@JoeyBenz Joey I do not have a window sticker. Here’s a link to a Car & Driver article that shows what they sold for and specs on car.

Do you have the window sticker ?

  • Kmck (seller) 3 years, 5 monthsago

@dsanford thank you for your response. I agree not only is it cool and it’s 1 of only 176 ever built. Of the 176 built we don’t know how many have survived. You don’t see these cars for sale very often. This is a pristine example of a Panox AIV. Take advantage of this opportunity to own it today.

This is such a cool car, I must say I don't think I have ever seen one before. Definitely a cool collector piece.

@switchcars I had the car for around 5 months the people at Sanderson Ford didn’t retail the records. I had Keese’s Ford in Colorado check everything out which I will post a record of ASAP. I also had a car dealer in Texas who was the largest dealer of Panoz cars in the country check it out also.

@Kmck Thank you. So I guess the question is how recently did you acquire the car? Do you have the receipts for the work performed as mentioned in the description?

  • Kmck (seller) 3 years, 5 monthsago

@switchcars Was the previous listing from another Classic Cars ? It’s has been driven monthly all engine rubber has been replace not sure about tire question other than I posted DOT codes on all 4 tires. The Panoz currently has a Texas title in my name. If you want I can send you a copy .

Gorgeous example. Let me first say that I rarely come across ones this clean, regardless of mileage.

Could the seller clarify some details though? The description states that "upon the seller's recent purchase" numerous items were addressed, but I have a listing from 2019, presumably from the original owner as it was still on MSO, that states those exact same items were done two years prior, including new tires. (Which must have been sitting on the shelf for a while as the date codes show 2013/2014 in the photos. Not uncommon). The previous listing also states that it was "started and run monthly" which is more than most people can say about cars that don't get driven. Seems like they really cared for this car.

Are you titling the car in TX or are you reassigning the MSO? I know DMV stuff takes a while to update but the Carfax does not show any record of a Texas title, yet. I'm guessing that is in process?
