Among the rarest and most collectible 993 models, the rear-wheel drive Carrera S was offered in limited numbers and features the wide bodywork of the 911 Turbo. This 1997 example is one of a reported 60 Vesuvio Edition units, finished in the rare shade of Vesuvio Metallic with Steel Gray accents over black leather upholstery. Originally delivered in Germany, it was reportedly maintained by two owners, with the second owner caring for the car over a 16-year period. Following its acquisition by the third and current owner, the car was imported to the United States in 2024. This sought-after C2S is now being offered for auction out of California.

Presented in seldom-seen Vesuvio Metallic (L40X), this 993 Carrera S features the widened fenders of the Turbo model along with a distinctive split-grille rear decklid. Equipment includes European-specification bumpers, a speed-activated rear spoiler, and refinished 18” solid-spoke Turbo Twist wheels. Modifications include fog light brake duct inserts, wide oval exhaust outlets, and a lowered suspension with H&R coilovers. The seller notes that bodywork was performed on the right rear fender and possibly the left front. A paint correction and ceramic coating have been applied, and recent work includes resealing the windshield and door handles, replacing the headlight lenses, completing a polish, and refinishing the mirrors, door handles, and rear grille in the factory-correct Steel Gray paint. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report and paint meter readings.

Inside, the black interior features reupholstered leather seats. Equipment includes 8-way power-operated and heated front seats, a sunroof, a leather-wrapped four-speaker steering wheel, power windows, and air conditioning. The seller notes that a Blaupunkt radio with Bluetooth connectivity, a replacement shifter, and stainless steel door sills with "Carrera S" designations have been installed. A couple of minor imperfections are noted, as shown in the gallery.

The replacement air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six engine is factory-rated at 282 HP and 250 lb-ft of torque, sending power to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. The seller notes that the included warranty booklet is stamped by a Porsche Center in Germany confirming the engine replacement at 107k kilometers. Recent maintenance includes a top-end reseal with new chain cover gaskets, upper and lower valve cover gaskets, ignition coils, wires, distributor caps, and rotors. Additional service included an oil change, air conditioning system recharge, a new climate control unit, and a compression test with results ranging from 180 to 185 PSI. Performance upgrades consist of a Fister short-shift kit paired with a Golden Rod, as well as a full FVD Brombacher exhaust system with a cross-pipe and catalytic converter delete. A recent dry ice cleaning has also been completed.

This sale will include a clean title, owner’s manuals, a toolkit, and sales literature.

On these, rule of thumb is if it is a '97 Carrera S, it is a Vesuvio Edition. '98 and other variants like 4S are PTS if on this paint color.

  • 911Outlaw_ (registered bidder) 12 hours, 28 minutesago

@JoeyBatzfromNyack they made a few in Vesuvio but the paint code is PTS.
For Vesuvio editions it’s actual color code on the sticker not PTS

@karlt In CA a dealer or private seller can sell to anyone in or out of state so not sure what you mean! Doesn’t matter if it’s an LLc a corp etc..as long as the car is delivered outside of CA then the buyer doesn’t pay CA tax this is regardless if you’re buying from a dealer or a private individual .

Please use the contact Seller button when asking broad questions that don’t pertain to the car itself so we can keep the comment section clear and informative as to the car itself.

    Wonderful car, and nicely presented!

As a dealer, are you able to sell to an out-of-CA LLC?

    GLTWA!

    @Nein9 @swexoticbuyers on point!

@Nein9 happy to answer all your questions so far and looking forward to your bid. I’m a dealer.

@pjthakkarjr this is an auction, no buy it now price. Thx

Is the title in your name or an LLC?

  • Tarek307 (seller) 3 daysago

@Nein9 copy and pasting my reply here to the same question (Assuming youre asking about CA)

"Not in its current exhaust setup / although I could put stock cats on it …but still I don’t believe a German import could be smogged in CA- never tried to smog a euro car in CA.

  • SWexoticbuyers (registered bidder) 3 daysago

@Nein9 haven’t seen a manual Vesuvio LHD car sell for that on bat since Covid. The closest comp is this one.

sorry, not trying to hijack the auction here with links and price speculation.

  • SWexoticbuyers (registered bidder) 3 days, 1 hourago

@MikeyWoodz considering there are only 60 Vesuvio 993S world wide I’d say it’s a good comp, of course higher mileage , paint work deduct some off still gives a guide.

If you want a closer comp, also a Row car 79k miles sold for $192,500 with fees. Gray interior probably held that one back, if it was black interior would have most likely been over $200k

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1997-porsche-911-carrera-s-coupe-33/

  • Nein9 (registered bidder) 3 days, 1 hourago

@SWexoticbuyers if you search a little more you’ll see almost an identical euro car sold on bat for $150k.

Regardless we will only have to wait 4 days to see where this ends up.

Regarding no cats, if I add those would there be anything else I need to do to pass emissions?

  • MikeyWoodz (registered bidder) 3 days, 1 hourago

@SWexoticbuyers Aero kit and much lower mileage/ US spec, not really apples.

  • SWexoticbuyers (registered bidder) 3 days, 3 hoursago

@Pjthakkarjr the last Vesuvio S sold at one of the auction sites was actually by this same seller on bat and it sold for over $250,000 including fees.

  • Tarek307 (seller) 3 days, 11 hoursago

@Davidmcd2018 That is a pic of the cars service folder with an old pic of the car, the wheels in that pic are replica BBS that were on the car at the time, if you are the winning bidder and want those wheels instead of the turbo twists i'm sure i can make something happen.

  • Tarek307 (seller) 3 days, 11 hoursago

@Nein9 Please read the description , see the PPI & Body inspection report + the paint meter reading video. Furthermore my first comment in the auction gives my own summary of the car. Thx

  • Nein9 (registered bidder) 3 days, 11 hoursago

Additionally can you confirm what bodywork you see was done on the rear fender and front fender?

  • Nein9 (registered bidder) 3 days, 13 hoursago

Are all the body panels original paint? Meter pics?

What state is the title from?

Will the BBS wheels come with the car?

    How many keys?

  • Davidmcd2018 3 days, 14 hoursago

@JoeyBatzfromNyack you’re obviously not here to bid or add anything positive to this listing so why even comment? By your metrics this car may as well have been listed only as clean carfax, no disclosure from seller on anything, and no records posted, so serious buyers would have to then do their own additional due diligence and spend money and time on a proper PPI. Would you prefer that? This is a very transparent listing IMO so why trash it? Move your discussion to contact seller then. I don’t get it and @Pcarmarket should moderate this. No need.

@JoeyBatzfromNyack must have a personal gripe towards the seller , I’ve been following the sellers journey with this car on Instagram since I’ve been interested since day 1 , seller posted videos and stories showing the cars meter readings , inspections and removing fender liners to inspect , haven’t seen a seller with this much transparency before, so why the hostility? It’s obvious from your comments this is more of a roast than a legitimate question 🤣
ignored the peanut gallery , excellent, transparent presentation and I’ll be leaving you a great review once I take this home! #teamvesuvio

  • JAB12 (registered bidder) 4 days, 9 hoursago

I just received this from a monthly newsletter from a famous online car reviewer:
I continue to be astonished by the success of Porsche sports cars in the secondary market, from the vintage, air-cooled cars to the nearly new, modern ones. Obviously this isn’t true of 4-door models like the Taycan, Panamera, and Cayenne, which follow fairly traditional depreciation curves – but the sports cars remain hot tickets in practically every market segment where you can find them. Although some Porsche models have retreated from COVID-era high prices, Porsche values still outpace prices for anything you might consider to be rivals, from the Corvette to the BMW M3 to various Japanese sports cars. I’m especially shocked these strong values have held considering Porsche’s production numbers, which aren’t especially limited – and even the modern-day “limited” Porsche models often have production runs of 2,000 units or more, which is a fairly high figure for a limited-production car. Still, the market can’t seem to get enough. Porsche is in an excellent place as a brand – and if you’re holding a Porsche as a collectible, keep holding. You can enjoy your sports car while keeping costs to a minimum – and if you’re lucky, you can even potentially realize some light appreciation.

@Deichenb Thx for your comment, love seeing the "Vesuvio" club coming out here lol. The color is indeed very special and different depending on the shade, angle and lighting..IMO its best in direct sunlight thats why i took the photos outside when it was sunny as opposed to studio photos (as i did for my aerokit vesuvio sold last month on BaT)

  • Tarek307 (seller) 4 days, 10 hoursago

@lindbergcarguy haha, just calling the carpeted phone panel cover that was off the middle console in the pics a hole got me a little worked up lol. As you see in my next reply i posted a photo of the cover and it will come on the car, so nothing is missing.

    Thx

  • Tarek307 (seller) 4 days, 10 hoursago

@Jab12 thanks for your comment and its always been a pleasure doing business with you...your knowledge regarding these cars is always very useful as well.

@JoeybatzfromNyack When i got the car we found out that the previous owner had the vesuvio bits painted in body color (you can also see the ppi photo #132) , it also had black wheels amongst other things such as the shifter for example was a RS shifter. I brought the car back to its "original" state, took a lot of work but we got it there. I just had another 97' Vesuvio aero kit car 2 months ago which i sold on BaT which we had to repaint vesuvio bits (this time because they were faded & scratched) so we had already done our research to find the proper "Steel Grey" porsche paint code for those bits.

@550bryan No! Not in its current exhaust setup / although I could put stock cats on it …but still I don’t believe a German import could be smogged in CA- never tried to smog a euro car in CA.

+1 here on what @SWexoticbuyers has stated. My Vesuvio is a '97 and and while I was looking both here at home and Euro models, most were tips. Manual 6SP seemed to be in the minority and sunroof delete as mine is, even less. I only found 2 our of about 8 cars reviewed, and the other one was a tip. For North America there were 22 or 24 cars I believe. This is a very small club and this example being presented here is a great opportunity to get into one that has been sorted properly.

  • 550bryan (registered bidder) 4 days, 11 hoursago

What a stunning 993. Sadly, I assume as currently configured, it can't be smogged in California?

  • SWexoticbuyers (registered bidder) 4 days, 11 hoursago

@JoeyBatzfromNyack we have had a 1997 Vesuvio in our collection , Porsche only made 60-62 Vesuvio 993 in 1997 , they are all Vesuvio edition , later on if someone ordered a 993 in Vesuvio it would be considered PTS and you would have a PTS code. If you see a 98 Vesuvio you know it’s PTS , many of the 97 Vesuvio editions had their mirrors and other parts painted incorrectly in body color.

Ironically a 1998 PTS Vesuvio colored 993 would actually be rarer than a 1997 Vesuvio edition , may not be worth as much but it is .

The Porsche 996 is where you will find many more in Vesuvio.

  • lindbergcarguy 4 days, 12 hoursago

after the chippy response to the question about the missing panel in the center tunnel does anyone else dare ask a question?

  • JAB12 (registered bidder) 4 days, 12 hoursago

I've commented this on many a listings from this seller: "Buy the Seller". Fantastic presentation of an honest car. This thing has records from Germany inch+ thick. Good to see it has been driven and improved, and the stance is just perfecto. Good think I already have one of these otherwise would be outbidding everyone in here. The yellow corners are what I like best about Euro 993s. I have an extra pair of used clear side signal markers if anyone needs them after winning this thing. GLWA.

  • JoeyBatzfromNyack 4 days, 13 hoursago

Is there any vin data card or letter from Porsche confirming this is a vesuvio edition? I know Porsche made many 993 in vesuvio, and it appears from the records that you had or the prior owner had the steel grey parts painted to mimic the vesuvio edition.

  • Deichenb (registered bidder) 4 days, 14 hoursago

This is a very special car, arguably the most special of the non-RS/GT 993’s. As a Vesuvio owner, I can attest that this color is dramatic and gorgeous. This particular Vesuvio is unique, as it has has been driven and used as intended, and many of these cars have not. If you’re a Vesuvio driver, this is the 1/60 for you, and will be very tough to duplicate.

  • Tarek307 (seller) 5 days, 4 hoursago

@Luft78 yes sir, of course. Photo #132 is the PPI and then photo #138 is an "Upclose" of the PPI . Also there is an inspection + paint work invoice Photo #108 . Other important photos in the gallery would be #145 / #147 Stamp from Porsche Center for Engine Replacement. Also Photos #118 /119/121 for recent mechanical work (chain cover, valve covers reseal & more)

The gallery isn't very organized, so if anyone has any questions i'm here to reply. Thanks.

  • Tarek307 (seller) 5 days, 4 hoursago

@Luft78 Thanks, not sure how many exactly would have been 6 speed manuals. According to PCA there were 60-62 vesuvio world wide, i'd guess most were ordered in Manual trans, but I've definitely seen Tips out there too.

Anyone know how many Vesuvio manual transmission out of the 60 Vesuvio made there were?

  • Tarek307 (seller) 5 days, 4 hoursago

@mattfrench97 I've already answered your question, its not in the footwell, its called a middle console, and its a hole in the carpeted panel of the middle console likely to run wire through for a cleaner install of a radio or radar detector, i'm not sure as i haven't had the car since 1997. Anything else?

  • TrofeoCollection 5 days, 4 hoursago

Bid in the amount of $50,993

I mean... it is a "hole" in the passenger footwell area. Valid question.

  • Tarek307 (seller) 5 days, 4 hoursago

@mattfrench97 way to word it! It’s just a small part of the carpeted panel in the middle console that missing / it’s not a “hole in the passenger footwell of the car “

Not sure what prior owners of almost 30 years may have had installed in there, I'd guess maybe wiring for radio, or radar detector.

  • mattfrench97 (registered bidder) 5 days, 5 hoursago

what is going on with the hole in the passenger side footwell?

  • Tarek307 (seller) 5 days, 5 hoursago

Hello everyone and welcome to this super rare 1 of 60 world wide * Vesuvio Carrera S auction. I've sold many aircooled 911's specifically 993/964 you can google my name or business Euro Motion for further reviews & referrals.
******PLEASE MAKE SURE TO READ THIS COMMENT AS I GIVE MY TAKE ON THE CAR WITH MORE DETAILS*******

Please see service records including PPI, Compression & Body / Frame inspection in the service records uploaded.

I like to give my own summary & take of the car- So i apologize for the long comment here:

**Exterior is in excellent condition, paint shines without any major dings, dents or scratches. This 993  has been paint corrected, ceramic coat and recently polished. New headlight lenses, turbo brake ducts just installed, the car is a Euro version so has the sought after Euro front & rear bumpers. The "Vesuvio" spec mirrors, door handles & rear S split grille have just been refinished. The car sits on H&R coil over suspension at a little below euro height showing a great stance. Wheels are solid spoke WB 993 wheels also recently refinished. Door check also recently repaired.

**Interior is in very good condition, the seats were fully redone in German leather with new foam so they feel nice and firm. New S shifter also installed. Dash is flawless with no cracks, clean carpets-  Period correct Bluetooth Blaupunkt radio installed. Stainless steel door sills. AC was just serviced and blows cold. There are couple of small imperfections annotated in the photo gallery.

**Mechanically the car has been fully sorted (PPI pre sorting is listed to show prior condition) Just had a top reseal, new chain cover gaskets, upper and lower valve covers & gaskets. Ignition coils, Ignition wires, distributor cap & rotors. Fister SSK and Golden rod just installed for a better feel. Full FVD German Brombacher exhaust + cross pipe & cats delete give the car an incredible sound, not too loud but just right. Also added wide oval exhaust tips. The undercarriage is clean with no leaks + just had it dry iced.

**History: 3 owner German car, lived in Germany all its life and was imported to the USA in 2024. The car has had some body work over the years ( see PPI for details) The mileage is 151K km  however the Porsche warranty book is stamped by Porsche Center in Germany for Engine replacement at 107K km (see photo gallery)

**Clean carfax (however based on inspection & PPI the car has had body work, the vehicle was inspected / measured & inner fender liners removed to ensure there is no frame damage- The car looks spectacular, drives straight with no issues so whatever the car went through in the past 30 years was fixed properly.
