We are pleased to present this 1997 Porsche 993 Carrera 4S finished in Black over a black interior.  Among the most desirable air-cooled cars of the 1990s, the 993 Carrera 4S combines naturally aspirated performance with the wide bodywork and styling of the Turbo model.  This 1997 example has spent most of its life in California and features some tasteful modifications including a Turbo S style front spoiler, a C2S-style split rear decklid grille, upgraded Fister mufflers, and 996 Turbo hollow-spoke wheels. Accompanied by extensive service records and the original window sticker, this highly collectible Carrera 4S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Virginia while showing just under 43k-miles on the odometer.

This 993 is finished in Black and is protected by clear film applied over the front bumper as well as the forward half of the hood and front fenders.  A professional paint correction was previously carried out and the seller reports some signs of age on the clear protective films.  The paint is described to be entirely original, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with recent paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX.  This Carrera 4S shares its wide bodywork with the Turbo model, and this particular example has been fitted with a Turbo S style front spoiler, a C2S-style split rear decklid grille, and Porsche 996 18” Technology hollow-spoke wheels.  These updated wheels come dressed in healthy Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires showing date codes from 2018.

Inside, this 993 highlights a black partial leather interior with 8-way power-operated seats and factory exclusive stainless-steel door entry guards with model logos.  Other factory features include a sunroof, cruise control, and CDR-210 radio.  The cabin remains highly original, and all gauges and accessories are said to be working properly aside from the clock.

This Carrera 4S is equipped with an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six Varioram engine that sends 282 HP to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. The Motor Sound Package was equipped from the factory and this example features upgraded Fister mufflers as well as a short-shift kit.  A comprehensive collection of maintenance records is said to be included and the seller reports that a new battery was recently installed along with a fresh oil service.

This sale will include the original window sticker and a clean title.  One of the most sought after air-cooled cars on the market, this 993 Carrera 4S makes an excellent investment as well as a fine addition to any enthusiast’s garage.

It's all about driving experience and the price of a new 911. C2/C4S's , with some consideration, can substitute as a modern car. You may give up Bluetooth, some A/C capacity and being fastest around the Nurburgring but in return you get the driving experience that put us all here in the first place. So look at a 993 as an appreciating, analog alternative to a new digital $150+k 992. My Wife and I both drive 993's daily and it's a privilege.

@Balou That's not how it works. People aren't just "overbidding" themselves, as you like to call it, for the thrill. Look back on 993 prices for the past 6 months, they've steadily been going up, and still are climbing. This is what the market dictates, and this is what they're worth now.

  • Balou (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

Why did he over bidding himself for several days?
    I dont get it.

Good for the seller...bad for other buyers...and this transaction will increase the comparable price of the next 4s ...it will be over priced too..

An exceptional presentation on a gorgeous 993 C4S. This is a truly beautiful 993 and just like the other 2 prior 993 C4S that were recently sold for a great price, this should also sell for a great price as well. The 993 market is very hot these days and beautiful examples like this are very hard to come by. Good luck to everyone.

@turbotax The typo has been corrected, the car is still AWD.

  • turbotax (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

The description states that the car "sends 282 HP to the rear wheels". Can seller confirm that this was a typo and the car is still all-wheel drive?

Solid leakdown report, this baby is cleared for takeoff :)

  • Widebody_Don (seller) 3 yearsago

@yolo92 Hi, they are Fister 3 (just the mufflers were upgraded, not the whole exhaust)...Fister 3 are actually OEM mufflers with modifications by FD Motorsports.

  • yolo92 (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

Stage 2 or 3 Fister mufflers?

  • Hhey (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

This is potentially a great car that will potentially fetch a very handsome price, but there's no way that I'd bid on this car at market price without PPI that included compression and leakdown. Could the car fetch >100k? For sure, but seller is shooting themself in the foot by not getting all the info. I would guess that this car either won't sell (won't meet reserve) or will sell for much less than potential without PPI and comp/leakdown.

Compression/leak down test would be VERY reassuring. Tough for prospective buyer to spring for a several hundred $ ppi when it's an auction and he/she is not even assured of getting the car.

If the seller gets one done and it looks good that should result in increased bid amounts that more than make up for the ppi cost. :-)

  • Widebody_Don (seller) 3 yearsago

@Hjs911 Hi, the car is in Arlington, Va. Ok so I think the ppi needs to happen before the auction ends. If you like to set up a ppi near Arlington, before the auction ends, then I will make sure I get the car to the PPI shop.

  • Hjs911 3 yearsago

  • WReiter (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

    Any oil leaks?

  • BlueTTop 3 yearsago

    @Widebody_Don

Thanks. I searched around and FD Motorsports short shifter is a popular upgrade.

  • Widebody_Don (seller) 3 yearsago

@BlueTTop Hi, the previous owner told me it is part of the installation for the FD Motorsports Short Shifter (Golden Rod) which requires a small dimple on the center tunnel cover in the bottom of the car.

Google searches indicated replacement tunnel covers goes for around $100. Part #9_9_3_5_0_4_0_4_3_0.

  • BlueTTop 3 yearsago

What is going on in picture #93? Looks like a serious bend in the gloss black metal center tunnel cover underneath the car.

  • turbotax (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

Beautiful car! The 993 C4S is the one to have -- turbo body, big red brakes, turbo suspension and drivetrain, all with a naturally aspirated motor that sounds amazing when you crack 4K rpms.

@jstoll Yes just the c2s, but the aftermarket split grill is available to buy if you want to convert it to split.

  • Widebody_Don (seller) 3 yearsago

@Widebody_Don Hi, I think this will be ok but I have to do some research to make sure. Thanks.

  • jstoll (registered bidder) 3 yearsago

About the split rear grill... Were they not germane to 993 C2S's only? Is this a retrofit of some kind?
