We are pleased to present this 1997 Porsche 993 Carrera 4S finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black partial leather interior. Among the most desirable air-cooled cars of the era, the 993 Carrera 4S combines naturally aspirated performance with the wide bodywork and all-wheel-drive system of the Turbo model. This 1997 example was sold new from McKenna Porsche of California and remained with its original owner up until 2006 when it was acquired by the current owner.  It came factory optioned with the Motor Sound Package, the HiFi Sound Package, a rear window wiper, and Exclusive aluminum instrument dials.  Accompanied by a well-documented history of service as well as the original books and window sticker, this Carrera 4S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Oregon while showing just over 54k miles on the odometer.

This Carrera 4S comes finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and sports the wide fenders of the 993 Turbo. The seller notes the previous owner to have indicated minor cosmetic damage to one of the rear quarter panels which was subsequently refinished.  Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report. This C4S rides on factory 18″ Turbo-Look wheels which come dressed in a set of Continental tires mounted in 2018 within the last 2,500 miles.

Inside, this 993 highlights a black partial leather interior with a full power driver's seat, aluminum instrument dials, and upgraded TechArt pedals. Factory features include a sunroof, cruise control, and the 10-speaker Hi-Fi Sound Package. The seller reports minor signs of wear commensurate with the car’s age and mileage and confirms all gauges and accessories to be working properly.

This 993 features an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six Varioram engine rated at 282 HP. Power is sent to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox. The factory optioned Motor Sound Package provides a more aggressive tone with a resonant airbox and louder mufflers. The seller notes that all standard maintenance and required service has been carried out by Marque Motors since their purchase of the car in 2006, including new front and rear shocks along with a four-wheel alignment in 2018.  Extensive service records are said to be available, and a spreadsheet of the maintenance history is provided for reference in the photo gallery.

This sale will include a set of two master keys, one spare key, owner's manuals, the original window sticker, a Porsche car cover, an air compressor, a spare tire, and a clean title. One of the most sought-after and increasingly valuable air-cooled cars on the market, this 993 Carrera 4S makes an excellent investment as well as a fine addition to any enthusiast’s garage.

    Continuation of previous comment-
Last week when Marque Motors pulled the tray over the engine so that I could photograph it (see earlier comments in this string), the shop owner and I noticed the oil you see in my photos and he commented to me that to see a small amount of oil on an air-cooled Porsche engine is not unusual. Given his experience with my car and his role as an independent Porsche repair facility, I believe that was his genuine and honest opinion. However, with respect to your observation, is there is some oil that is not where it should be, it is not leaking on the floor. Please let me know whether this addresses your concern. I would be happy to go back to Kurt Leipzig at Marque Motors for more information.

    Response to 696-
Like you, I too am not an expert, as I have noted in a previous comment below, so I will share with you the only experience I have had with oil leakage relative to this car. A picture of my maintenance spreadsheet is included with the other pictures. As shown on that spreadsheet, Marque Motors replaced the lower valve cover gaskets on 6/27/2011. This was done in response to some oil leakage that I began to see on the garage floor. At that point, I had owned the car for about five years and the appearance of oil on the floor was a new occurrence. After that repair, no oil leakage occurred and, as shown on my spreadsheet, there have been no further repairs relative to that issue.

I’m not an expert, but it looks like it’s probably leaking oil from the valve covers by the oil on the heat exchangers, and at least from the drivers side timing chain cover. Does it leave drips on the floor. Did the shop comment about this?

@Vince993s @Vince993s: I’m wondering if the rust protection the factory applies before painting is a factor in these varying thickness readings? I hope an expert on this can chime on that aspect of how these cars are put together.

  • pnwdave (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

For those who were interested in photos of the underside of the car, they were just posted. Thanks to Jim and Dylan who got the posting done at the last minute on a Friday. I attempted to photograph the areas of interest, including the engine area with the tray removed. The folks at Marque Motors in Portland volunteered one of their lifts to get this job done, including removing and replacing the tray. You gotta love small independent businesses.

The paint meter readings seem higher than most similar 993s. But I am glad to see this because my early build (8/1/96) 1997 C4S meters at similar values (5-7.8) on the car as a whole even below my recently removed original rear quarter rock chip guards. I suspect that’s because these were not robotically painted. Others more knowledgeable may wish to comment. Good luck with the sale of the beautiful example.

@pnwdave Thanks. That'll be a big addition to the auction to have the pictures. It's not in my best interest of course but will put everyone on equal footing.

Thanks for the early interest in this auction.
Response to PMeister - While I love my Porsche, I have never seen its underside. If that tells you I am not at all mechanical, you are correct. However, I just spoke to the owner of the shop who has maintained the car for 15 years and he agreed to try to get the car on the lift tomorrow so I can take pictures. I am scheduled to call him at 9am tomorrow. I will keep you posted.

Can you get some pics of the underside? Tray off the engine if the car still has the tray. Also pics of the suspension linkages, brake lines, etc.

This car has been lovingly cared for over the 15 years that I have owned it and by the original owner prior to that time. I welcome your bids.
