We are pleased to present this 1997 Porsche 993 Carrera 2S finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over a black leather interior. With its low production numbers, wide Turbo body, and rear-wheel drive configuration, the 993 C2S remains one of the most collectibles and well-regarded air-cooled Porsches ever made.  This 1997 example was purchased by its longtime owner from Harper Porsche of Knoxville in 1999 and has been properly maintained ever since. With approximately 52k miles showing on the odometer, this rare 993 Carrera S is now being listed for sale out of Tennessee, accompanied by original books, tools, keys, service records, and a clean title.

This 993 is finished in Arctic Silver Metallic and the seller indicates that the rear bumper cover and partial right rear quarter panel have been professionally refinished for cosmetic purposes (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery).  The C2S shares the wide bodywork of the Turbo and 4S models while showcasing its own unique split grille rear decklid.  This example retains its factory optioned stainless steel tailpipes and 18" Technology hollow-spoke wheels that feature a chromed finish and come dressed in Bridgestone tires that are about 10 years old.

Inside, the Black leather interior is reported to be in great original condition with some slight wear on the seat bolsters. All gauges and accessories are said to be working properly including the factory CR-210 radio. Factory options include an aluminum shift knob and handbrake lever, 8-way power-operated seats, cruise control, and a sunroof.

The 3.6L flat-six Varioram engine produces 282 HP, which is sent through a 6-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. Mechanically, this example is said to be in excellent condition and has been regularly dealer-maintained throughout its life. The alternator, rear struts, A/C compressor, and dryer have been replaced through Harpers Porsche in Knoxville, and service records will be included in the sale.

This sale will be accompanied by a spare tire, toolkit, and a clean title. This rare and highly original C2S is a must-have for any avid Porsche enthusiast, do not let this opportunity pass you by.

@Mfbuehler The out side seat back covers were cracked and replaced by the dealer I will look to see if there were any inside covers.

I will be taking additional requested pictures this week when it warms up, it has been below freezing the for a while and raining.

  • Burkejrb (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Mfbuehler I don't understand the CarFax, the car had the 27,194 miles on it when I purchased from the another individual thru a listing company. It was not at a dealer.

In my opinion, the 993 C2S is the most funnest, the most reliable, easy to drive, elegant, best handling air cooled 911 ever compared to the C4S or any other air cooled model.

Hello, there was a request for the option sticker photo along with photos of the headliner and the front bumper. Can you please advise if these are in process?

Also, is part of the seatback covers missing? I can see the exposed hinge bolts on the insides off the driver and passenger seats - perhaps they got knocked off at some point?

@Burkejrb this is a desirable car. Cold start and driving videos plus underside pics and maybe pics showing service records will help your auction.

    Very nice...
My only issue with this auction is that there is not a full rear view picture taken from a low angle (even with the level of the tail light). This is the best view angle of these cars, and this model and color is probably the best example (neck and neck with 996 4S, i have a thing for full width brake light bar, but extra points for PORSCHE is etched across it)

  • Mfbuehler (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Very nice car. Can you please post a picture of the front bumper head on and at bumper level? Thank you.

  • Eggzackly (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Burkejrb thanks for the response. I will look out for the option code picture.

I did a few searches and it seems the headlight lenses are not difficult to replace on the 993.

Do you have any pictures of the underside of the car?

    Cheers

  • Burkejrb (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@Eggzackly I took I picture of the item, I will let Pcarmarket post it. Car after I purchased it was alway is a garage I don't know about the original owner.

@jstoll See reply on the wheels. Most of my Service was done at a local Porsche dealership. I had a few items done at a local car service but always required original Porsche parts be used. I do not have any records on service from the original owner.

  • Burkejrb (seller) 3 years, 3 monthsago

@jstoll When I purchase the car it had the Chrome wheels. I tried to research and find if you could purchase the car in 1997 with chrome wheels and could not find where it was a upgrade you could purchase. I am guessing the original buyer might the had them chromed, I do not know, I do not have any papers on the purchase.

Can buyers assume this car is bone stock and serviced by Porsche using OEM parts? Are these the wheels that came with the car originally?

Below are common problems that can arise on the 993 and it’s quite lengthy, but can you address any of the things on the list you have addressed to date. Thanks

Valve guides can wear and clog secondary air injection (naturally aspirated engines)
Engine case through-bolt O-rings leak oil
Dual-ignition distributor internal belt can fail
    Drive-belt pulley should be updated
Engine wiring harness was recalled, check to see if the recall fix was performed
HVAC module parasitic drain can discharge battery
    Monroe-brand shocks not desirable
    Windscreen can delaminate
Front control-arm bushings crack, causing steering wheel shimmy
Clutch slave cylinder can make creaking noise
Clutch slave cylinder hose can leak
    Gearbox shift-selector seal can leak
    DME relay can fail
Cabriolet power top module can fail
    Steering rack can leak
Steering tie-rod rubber boots can crack
A/C condenser and oil cooler fan resistors can fail
    A/C evaporator can leak
    Spark plug wires can deteriorate
Cooling fan hub bearing can fail
    Flywheel rear-main-seal can leak
Engine valve covers can leak oil
Removal of engine underbody panel is recommended for better cooling
    Rear wing “accordion” can break
Shifter bushings and fasteners can have issues
Third brake light bulbs can go out
    Vacuum distribution port can collapse
Targa top mechanicals can be troublesome
Sunroof seals can fade (difficult to replace)
    Sunroof cables can have issues
    Door pockets can crack
Door-stop mounts can break on A-pillars
Rubber steering wheel airbag mount bushings can weaken, causing the horn to blow unexpectedly. This can happen, for example, under braking
Cars that sit can develop problems with congealing brake fluid (white wax material)
Speedometer, odometer, and/or tripmeter gears can break
Plastic rear window for cabriolet top can fade
Exterior mirror-bolt trim-caps can be missing
Windscreen wiper-blade rubber-buffer can be missing
Windscreen and rear window rubber/plastic trim cracks and breaks. Worse, the window trim plastic is molded to the window, and when it breaks, the fix is to replace the window. The rubber trim that goes around circumference has a felt-like surface, which will creak when it wears out
Corrosion can happen around windscreen and/or rear windows

Would you please post a picture of the option code sticker that’s under the fronk.

The headlights and fog lights look quite yellowed. Was this car stored outside?

  • Ml27555 (registered bidder) 3 years, 3 monthsago

Hi. When looking at the car fax it says one owner. I was curious why on 7/23/1999 it says vehicle purchase reported with 27,194 miles. When you purchased the vehicle how many miles were on the car. Was it at the dealer for a while before being purchased. Thanks for any help was just a little confused.
