We are pleased to introduce this 1997 Porsche 993 “ Reimagined 4RS” by Porsche Classic Monterey.  To promote their Classic Partnership, the factory-trained technicians at Porsche Monterey set out to create their interpretation of the perfect air-cooled 911.  Beginning with a 1997 Carrera 4S, this 993 underwent a comprehensive nut-and-bolt RS-style transformation using 97% genuine Porsche Classic parts.  The interior was completely redone, the exterior was fitted with front and rear spoilers, the suspension was completely overhauled and upgraded, and the engine was rebuilt and increased to a hearty 3.8L displacement.  The car made its debut at the 2nd annual Porsche Classic Monterey event in 2019 and was met with an overwhelmingly positive response.  Offering all-wheel-drive performance, wide C4S bodywork, 3.8L power, and the iconic characteristics of an RS, this one-of-a-kind 993 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Illinois.

This Arctic Silver Metallic 993 was comprehensively disassembled and rebuilt with genuine RS front and rear spoilers.  It was also outfitted with all new seals and moldings, trim pieces, glass, new fog lights, headlights, clear turn signals, chrome exhaust tips, and a special “4RS” rear designation.  A collection of detailed images is provided in the photo gallery along with build records.  This 993 rides on a set of Speedline-style Tramont Cup 2 wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Inside, the cabin was completely redone with all new RS carpeting, insulation, trim, labels, and leather-covered RS door panels.  The rear seats were deleted and a 993 RS steering wheel was installed in addition to an RS shift knob, red seatbelts, custom Rennline stainless steel door sills, and hardback Recaro Sport seats with custom houndstooth-upholstered inserts and Planted seat brackets.  All-new speakers were also installed along with a Porsche Classic radio. The air conditioning system was removed, and the location of the compressor now bears a special Porsche Classic Monterey badge.

The original 3.6L flat-six Varioram engine was removed, completely rebuilt, and upgraded to 3.8L RS specifications by the technicians at Porsche Monterey.  A new exhaust was fitted along with a carbon fiber heater duct and an upgraded 996 GT3 oil pump.  All four wheels are driven through a 6-speed manual transmission, and stopping power is handled by robust “Big Red” Brembo brakes front and rear. The suspension was completely rebuilt and upgraded with adjustable JRZ RS1 coilovers and track control arms.  The car was painstakingly tuned and tested and has been driven just over 100 miles since completion.  CARFAX shows regular service to have been carried out by Porsche Monterey since 2008 and a collection of records from the RS transformation are provided in the photo gallery detailing the incredible amount of work that has gone into this build.

This sale will include the build records, a genuine Porsche car care kit in a houndstooth duffel, and a clean title.  This beautifully executed “4RS” awaits its next owner, do not miss out on this very special opportunity.

Without what? So is this 375bhp or 400bhp?

    I’m confused.

  • DETAILED (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@pca718 Hello. From Porsche Classic Monterey technicians without it dyno is 375

  • pca718 (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

    How was the 400hp determined?

  • Sword_of_the_Spirit (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

I'm not trying to bust your buttons, but it is a legitimate question given the statements. Build it yourself, spec with Rothsport, Autometrics, Rennsport Systems.

I did see this on their lift and parked out back during the build. Good to see Porsche Corp putting parts back into production.

  • Sword_of_the_Spirit (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@DETAILED I did. They're is nothing in there besides the sublets, gt3 oil/fuel pump, and some assembly.

400bhp in an NA air-cooled is top-tier. Porsche's 964/993 Sprint motors were a beast at 360-390spec. Totally different with utilization of ITB's and Intake/Plenum Assemblies. Heads, bottom end vastly reworked, etc, etc. That was OE and Spec'd parts from outside supplier's.

@Sword_of_the_Spirit Hello. Looking through the receipts in the images below to see what else is in there.

  • Sword_of_the_Spirit (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@DETAILED What was done? Do you have a link?

  • DETAILED (seller) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@WCC1993 thanks, & thanks everyone for your bids so far. This should be a fun last hour.

  • WCC1993 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Sword_of_the_Spirit Pretty sure if i remember correctly this was done by LN Engineering so that would be correct. Also fact that a 993 3.6L pushes 288HP and we all know that Porsche always has a little extra than they advertise

  • Sword_of_the_Spirit (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

@WCC1993 Oh boy, I’d look up your information just for a few minutes longer…..

  • WCC1993 2 years, 9 monthsago

@Sword_of_the_Spirit the standard 3.6L would produce 288 HP, a 3.8L Air cooled should produce closer to 375HP and up depending on Exhaust system, this car should be pushing minimum 375HP and wouldn't be surprised on DYNO if it wasn't close to 400HP

  • Sword_of_the_Spirit (registered bidder) 2 years, 9 monthsago

What was done to the 3.8 to get to 400bhp? Do you have any notes and such? A standard 3.8 is barely over 300bhp. To get to 400bhp, I’d expect to see ITB, 997 Intake, and a list of items replaced that Porsche would not “OE.”
    Thanks

I have been watching this car since it went up. It’s a Unicorn and 164 miles of pure Porsche RS heritage. Surprised at the low price it’s currently at but let’s see if it goes crazy these last few hours. You just don’t see these type of cars often other than Singers at this price Wow!!

  • DETAILED (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@artichoke prior just over 163. Carfax info is below.

    @WCC1993 thank you.

  • WCC1993 2 years, 10 monthsago

I have seen this car in person at the launch party at Car week in Monterey, it is perfect. What a build that Porsche classic alongside PORSCHE did to build a car that was never imported to the US using what 97% parts from the Porsche factory. So cool to see a 4RS available as a reimagined build by Porsche and not a builder. Good luck to anyone that bids on this one, it is truly special!!
