We are pleased to present this 1997 Porsche 993 Carrera S finished in Ocean Blue Metallic over a Midnight Blue leather interior. With its low production numbers, wide Turbo body, and rear-wheel drive configuration, the 993 C2S remains one of the most highly collectible and well-regarded air-cooled Porsche 911s of all time. This particular example was recently acquired by the seller from its long-term second owner who is said to have provided the car with the utmost care and attention throughout his 21 years of ownership. It comes factory equipped with Sport Suspension, the Engine Sound Package, the Aluminum/Chrome Package, and pleated leather seats.  Currently showing just over 48k miles on the odometer, this 993 Carrera S is now being offered for auction by its owner out of Florida, accompanied by original manuals, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, tools, keys, and service records.

This 993 is finished in Ocean Blue Metallic and is reported to have been garage kept for nearly its entire life. Only minor signs of road-going wear are noted, and the headlights, fog lights, and fender stone guards are said to have been recently replaced. Detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report. The wide turbo-derived bodywork of this Carrera S is complemented by an added Turbo-style rear wing. Optional stainless steel exhaust pipes (X54) are equipped as part of the Aluminum/Chrome Package and this 993 rides on a set of 18" Speedline multi-piece wheels that come dressed in a set of Bridgestone Potenza tires.

Inside, this 993 sports an attractive Midnight Blue leather interior with supple leather seats and the Aluminum/Chrome Package which includes stainless steel door entry guards and aluminum-look instrument gauges with brushed chrome rings. Other factory features include an Exclusive shift knob and handbrake lever in aluminum, the Power Seat Package, Digital Sound Package, a sunroof, and a remote 6-disc CD changer. Some very minor signs of wear are noted and over $1800 is said to have been previously invested in the upgraded stereo system which includes an Alpine radio, subwoofer, and amplifier.  All gauges and accessories are reported to be fully functional and the original stereo components will be included in the sale.

The air-cooled 3.6L flat-six Varioram engine is capable of producing 282 HP, which is sent through a 6-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels.  Factory Sport suspension (030) is equipped as well as the Motor Sound Package which adds a more resonant airbox and muffler. The engine undertray has been removed for improved cooling and will also accompany the sale. A major recent service was carried out in 2020 which included an oil change, new valve cover and timing cover gaskets, new timing chain case ramps, new front oil lines, a new power steering pump, and a new rear bumper seal.  Extensive records kept by the previous owner detail a lifetime of proper care and maintenance, please see the images provided in the photo gallery.

The sale will include a set of two keys, books, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a toolkit, an air compressor, service records, a front bumper bra, original stereo components, and a car cover. Sporting fantastic factory options and a beautiful color combination, this 993 is sure to satisfy any air-cooled Porsche enthusiast.

Hello everyone I wanted to tell you all thank you for watching this action during past week. I will try to be available throughout the day for any last questions. I will miss this car as it is a wonderful example of a widebody Porsche and I can assure you that it will be a remarkable car to drive and enjoy.
I have several exceptional cars in my collection and I’ve just gotten to the point that I need to scale things down. It was a very difficult decision to decide which car would be the first to go. Every car i have is special and I love everyone of them. This Porsche C2S is a car I will certainly miss in my collection, good luck to all of you bidding today!

@BlueTTop I just took another look, from 2/28/03 (33,013) thru 11/20/07 (36,578) there were at total of 3,565 miles added to the odometer. This seems consistent with the history of mileage on this car. I would say based on the condition of the car the miles are very accurate. I’m pretty confident the repair was made in a timely fashion.

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@BlueTTop The odometer was repaired right away, looking at the service records there was no significant lapses in service history and from my review I calculated there were a total of 3,565 miles added to the odometer between 2/20/07 and 2/01/08. Hope this help clear up any concerns, I believe the mileage is very accurate.

  • BlueTTop 2 years, 11 monthsago

I noted that the Odometer required repair and was “sublet” out in 2005.

How many miles were driven while the odometer was broken?

    Thanks

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@jstoll Thanks for your interest, the white instrumentation is a factory option. In my opinion the Turbo Wing competes the look of the wide body 993's and I don't think the wing is as well suited for the narrow body cars.

  • jstoll (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@Tgilbert @Tgilbert. Good to know, thank you... I have those on my own '97 C2S across the state from you on the Treasure Coast, small world. You don't mention the original wing coming with the car so I presume it's a thing of the past. Was white instrumentation a factory option?

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@jstoll If you did want to change to Porsche Turbo Twist wheels there is a nice set that were refinished on eBay for $1,700 or best offer.

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@danimal10 I forgot to address the shocks, they are original to my knowledge but seem to be performing perfectly. The tires should be replaced as the date codes show 2012 and 2011.

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@danimal10 Great questions, let's start with your question regarding the paint meter readings. Please look at both rear quarter panels and you will see that where the hips transition toward the fenders the readings are 6.94, 8.45 and 7.49 on the driver's side and 6.58 and 6.96 for the same area on the passenger side. The specialist that did the metering said those numbers are normal because of the paint pattern. If there was any respray or body work the meter readings would be well over 10++
Regarding the brakes: the front pads were replaced at 33,013 and the read pads were replaced at 36,578 miles. There is a small lip on the roters but they are not expensive if you wanted to replace them.
Lastly there is some mild pitting on the Speedline right front wheel but that can be refinished by any local wheel refinisher, I also want to sure to mention that it is not corrosion, just a small area of flaking and something that I think would not need any immediate attention.

  • danimal10 2 years, 11 monthsago

Beautiful car with lots of photos. I have questions.

How old are the tires and shocks?

Photo No.41: Right front wheel shows corrosion and the rotor shows wear on the lip. Have the breaks been replaced, recently?

Photo No. 215: The left rear quarter panel has a paint meter reading of 7.49, which I am told would indicate that it has been painted.

    Look forward to your reply.
    Thank you.

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@lekrz Thank you fro your positive comments, this C2S also has cruise control and was optioned with the chrome oval exhaust tips as well. All gauges are working and as I mentioned earlier the AC can keep you cool even in this Florida heat.

  • lekrz (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Great looking car and just the way the car is kept and covered speaks volumes! I see many comments about what enthusiasts perceive as rust when what there looking at is a protective coating of cosmoline applied at the factory. This is a very well done listing , showing in detail how nice this car presents itself. Deserves strong $$.

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@jstoll Thank you for your questions, the wing is a Porsche OEM factory wing but this C2S was not optioned from the factory with one. This car is riding on the Speedline wheels with the Porsche center crests. If you want the Turbo Twists they are very inexpensive and readily available.

  • jstoll (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Nice car! About the wing: Factory or otherwise? Do the original Hollow Spoke Turbo Twist Wheels come with?

  • Berdiel (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

    Love it. !!!

  • Moonshot (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@BlueTTop Porsche re-engineered the part with better supports. I just had this replaced in my 97 C2S at a certified Porsche body shop. It was a big process cutting it out, and replacing - I think it was around 7k. Glad I did it right as the spot welds don't hold up.

@Tgilbert The video you requested has been posted.

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@Flat6Cast In addition to your concern about any rust, please look carefully at the photos taken underneath the car. I did not even pressure wash the car prior to taking pictures. I think you can see how remarkable the condition of the the underneath the car is with regards to any corrosion. I should also make mention that there are no leaks of any kind. I can leave this car parked for weeks and there is not a single drop of any fluid. Hope this helps! Thanks again!

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@Flat6Cast I have completed a video and sent it to PCARMARKET to be uploaded. Hope to have it post shortly, everything looked perfect.

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@Flat6Cast Thanks, I have become what I consider a friend now, a former Porsche trained technician and the owner operator of Height Automotive Imports in Tampa. He is an amazing Porsche specialist. He has worked on all a total of 7 Porsches I have owned and I think he is a phenomenal mechanic. He was dumbfounded by what the technician listed on the repair order. I stand firm on my comment that this car is rust free and I can't imagine any car anywhere that could be in better condition. Thank you for your supporting comment.

  • Flat6Cast (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@Tgilbert Thanks for the quick response and all the great pics. I knew the rack was replaced, but I guess it was strange to see the shop “editorializing “ on the work receipt!
Keeping a close eye on this auction !!

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@Flat6Cast Thanks for your inquiry, this car has always been a Florida car, it has never been submerged or exposed to road salts. I just talked about this with my Porsche mechanic and he questions the "assumption" on the report that there was salt/brackish water that caused the rust without some type of chemical analysis to confirm his opinion. Regardless it may have been a manufacturing defect or some other anomaly which caused this to have occurred. There is no rust or corrosion anywhere underneath the car which you can clearly see by the numerous pictures posted. I'm more than happy for you to arrange a PPI to alleviate any further speculation. I do have a lift in my garage and anyone is welcome to stop by for a look. In conclusion the affected components have been replaced and there has not been any further issue since 2000 when this was addressed. I will take a video as you requested this morning and ask PCARMARKET to post the video.

  • Flat6Cast (registered bidder) 2 years, 11 monthsago

Great looking car! Could you post pics or video of the window surrounds and front cowl where rust is common? Also curious about service record pic 181 - rack rusted and full of brackish water/salt - was the car flooded or front end submerged?
    Thanks!

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@kkon Thank you for your interest. Both seat rails are working perfectly, both are full power seats and they operating as expected. There is no loss of range going forward and back. There is also no laxity or wiggle on either seat. I did google "993 seat rails" and read about some issues that were limited to replacing screws. I have owned four 993 Porsches and never had any issues nor have I heard about issues until you asked. I would expect these seat rails should continue to function normally for the next owner.

  • kkon 2 years, 11 monthsago

Was the issue with the seat rails ever addressed?

@Tgilbert Were still very early in the auction, I just drove this C2S to have the paint metering done and I wanted to mention that this car amazes me every time I drive it. No rattles, it's so tight and smooth and the shifting is so silky smooth, I just start wondering what I'm doing letting this one go??? lol

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@codylawr1989 Just had the paint metering completed and sent the results to PCARMARKET to be uploaded. According to the technician the readings are consistent from side to side on matching panels and the hood and roof. The meter reading indicates original paint on every panel or quarter of the car. There was a range from 3.83 to 7.49 with most falling into the 4.0-6.0 range.

@Tgilbert Thank you. I think paint meter readings could help your auction. Cheers!

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@codylawr1989 I don't have a paint meter, I will see if I can get one. I'm certain that the car has not had any accidents or rust issues that would have required body work. Regardless I will make some calls this morning and see what I can do for you! Thanks for your inquiry.

I messaged the seller as I am a local interested buyer but no response?

  • Tgilbert (seller) 2 years, 11 monthsago

@BlueTTop For a car like this I agree with your opinion, that technique would be the best approach. Thanks for your comment.

  • BlueTTop 2 years, 11 monthsago

A spot weld to fix a door check-strap is not the correct way to repair this issue. A spot-weld repair will ultimately make it worse. A proper repair requires door removal and a window cut into the A-Pillar to repair and strengthen from behind.

Note additional comments: This car does have a door check strap issue with the driver's door. As noted in other 993 auctions these are common issues that seem to occur eventually with time. I have been told by Vortex Motorsports in Tampa that they would do a spot weld on the door check strap and it would be in the neighborhood of $500 to have it fixed.

Hello and thank you for taking time to look at this wonderful car. I have been fortunate to have owned four Porsche 993's, a Cabriolet, a Tiptronic Coupe, a C4S and this C2S. I met the previous 21 year owner of this car at a local Cars and Coffee two years ago while showing my C4S. We became friends and often discussed the C2S vs C4S.The previous owner now in his 80's decided I was the one he felt was best suited to take over the reins of this car.
Both wide body cars are the real deal and the most important factor between the two versions boils down to condition and options. This C2S was optioned with the full leather interior including the beautiful leather dash in perfect condition. It is original stock with the exception of the OEM Factory Areo Kit and the radio. The debate between the C4S and the C2S will always continue and for me the winner of that debate will be the decided by which car has better options and which car has been maintained to the higher standards. This C2S has been extremely well cared for, garaged kept, and has no rust...ANYWHERE.
This car drives like a dream and pulls like a train, my Porsche expert was impressed that even the courtesy illumination light over the key starter switch still works. It is also very rare to find the original under engine belly tray which is usually removed and eventually lost, many owners believed removing it allows more air flow around the engine.
I felt like the headlights and fog lights needed to be replaced due to some discoloration and also the door handle gaskets were also replaced. This C2S retains the original factory exhaust system.
If anyone is looking for a Wide Body C2S to own and enjoy driving, you found it right here!!!
I'm more than happy to try and answer any questions and share my experiences with the four 993's I have owned and driven. I'm in Tampa and more than happy to show the car.
