Now available is this purpose-built 1997 Porsche 986 Boxster spec race car. Representing the inaugural model year for the Porsche Boxster, this 1997 example was built by the seller as a race car to compete in NASA, SCCA, and PCA events. The interior has been stripped and a roll cage has been fitted along with a MOMO racing seat, AIM data system, Cool Suit setup, and a fire suppression system. The engine has also been fitted with an upgraded IMS bearing, and Pagid brake pads have been equipped as well as Bilstein shock absorbers and springs. Ready for the track and accompanied by an additional set of wheels, a spare motor, and transmission, this Boxster race car is now being offered by its seller out of New Mexico.
This Boxster is remains finished in its originally specified color of Black and features removable racing graphics and a custom red-painted hood, rear deck, and hardtop. The lower front and rear grilles have also been painted red along with the door handles. The 17” Twist wheels are finished in red and come dressed in used Toyo RR tires. An additional set of yellow-painted Twist wheels will also be included dressed in matching Toyo RR tires.
Inside, the cabin has been mostly stripped and converted to a lightweight racing cockpit. A roll cage has been fitted along with a MOMO racing bucket seat, a Schroth safety net, a Safecraft harness, and a quick-release Driven steering wheel. Longacre gauges and controls have been added to the center console and an AIM digital data system has been fitted in front of the original instrument cluster. Other features include a Cool Suit setup, an integrated fire supersession system, and an emergency cutoff switch.
The naturally aspirated 2.5L flat-six engine features an upgraded IMS bearing and is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission that drives the rear wheels. An auxiliary transmission cooler has been added in the rear and Pagid racing brake pads have been installed along with Bilstein springs and shock absorbers. Routine maintenance has been addressed by the seller and there are no outstanding issues reported at this time. A spare motor and transmission will also accompany the sale.
