We are pleased to present this incredibly rare 1998 Bentley Continental R Special Edition. Marking #8 out of 10 examples produced in total, this Special Edition 1998 Continental R is said to have been purchased new at an original MSRP of over $338k from the authorized Bentley dealership EuroMotorcars of Bethesda, Maryland. Specific to this example is the “flying-B” grille ornament which is said to have been custom ordered from the factory as a personal wish from the original owner prior to delivery. Reported to have been under the care of only 2 private owners from new, this highly collectible Continental R is now being offered by its seller in Florida while showing approximately 59k miles, accompanied by original books, a copy of the original window sticker, and a clean title.
Having recently undergone a professional full detail and paint correction, the Black finish on this Bentley is said to be in very nice overall condition except for a couple of minor touchups located on the passenger mirror cover (detailed images are provided in the photo gallery). The front bumper was recently refinished for cosmetic purposes and the seller notes that some other panels had been previously refinished including the driver’s side door. The original purchaser of the car is said to have contacted Bentley in England to commission the creation and installation of the raised “flying-B” grille ornament, a feature unseen on any other Special Edition Continental R. Characteristic details of this example include its stainless-steel oval tailpipes, body-colored headlight surrounds and bumpers, front wing vents, and 18” Continental T wheels.
Inside, the cabin is appointed in fine Connolly leather, wool carpeting, and dark wood trim. The interior is described by the seller to be in immaculate condition while retaining full functionality of all gauges and accessories including the upgraded Kenwood audio system. The Continental R Special Edition is designated as such on the original window sticker by having the $19,556 Mulliner Park Ward option, which adds the following details:

This Continental R is equipped with a 6.75 L turbocharged V8 engine rated at 384 HP and 553 lb.-ft of torque. A 4-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels providing for effortless cruising and a 0-60 time of approximately 6 seconds. This example is reported to have been thoroughly gone through in recent years including the complete refurbishment of the electrical system and the freshening of the suspension with new rear gas springs and lower front bushings. All routine maintenance is said to have been addressed and all fluids and filters were recently changed to ensure excellent running order for its next owner.
This sale will include 1 key and remote fob, original manuals, a copy of the original window sticker, and a clean title (lien). Rarely ever seen on the market, this 1/10 Special Edition Bentley represents a very unique opportunity for any car collector.

Seller: Thank you for providing all available information for this car. I would think that Lauderdale Imports may have copies of some service records that would at least corroborate what work CarFax indicates has been completed.
However, it would appear that the car has not been driven very frequently nor has it been serviced during the last 3 years of ownership, per CarFax. It is entirely possible that the owner (or a smaller shop) has a competency in servicing Bentleys and performed their own maintenance. GLWA
Seller: I am totally unfamiliar with PCARMARKET's auction rules. Since the bidding has been very light, perhaps you can ask for an extension of time for the auction so Owner #2 can hopefully find those critical service records. I think many more and higher bids would come with those service records.
@BarryLe when we sold the car to owner#2 it included with it a 2+inch binder with all service records from new.... Until owner 2 locates them and provides them to me I cannot in good faith claim or state that they are available... He is aware of the need for them and the value they bring to a vehicle in this category and has promised to look for them when he returns from his holiday....
@BarryLe It The seller has done a nice job of providing all the information that he has available to the potential buyers for the vehicle. While we understand some potential buyers may want more, it is completely within their right to request a pre-purchase inspection at their expense.
Seller: Bentleys are complicated cars and incredibly expensive to repair. Your inability to provide any service records is having a chilling affect on the bidding. In the absence of a service history, I think most bidders would be extremely reluctant to bid on such a complicated and expensive car without the benefit of a PPI. I would Ike to bid to win but not without a thorough PPI.

I think you should take it to Lauderdale Imports where the car has been frequently serviced and have them do the PPI which you could then post for the benefit of the bidders. I am not bidding without the benefit of an independent PPI and Lauderdale Imports is just a short drive from you.
