We are pleased to offer this 1998 BMW E36 M3 Convertible finished in Dakar Yellow over a black Nappa leather interior. The second generation of BMW’s legendary M3, the E36 combined race-inspired BMW Motorsport technology with everyday practicality and luxury. Introduced in 1998, the M3 Convertible saw only 2,252 manual transmission examples during a two-year production run. This particular M3 was delivered new in Texas and came equipped with a multifunction M Sport steering wheel, power-operated Sports Seats, the Hi-Fi Harman Kardon Sound System, and a limited-slip differential. Having been recently fitted with a new convertible soft top, this rare Dakar Yellow M3 is being offered for auction by its seller out of Iowa with approximately 129k miles on the odometer.
This M3 is finished in the desireable shade of Dakar Yellow (337) with a black retractable soft top. The M3 can be differentiated from a standard E36 3-Series by its revised front and rear bumpers, side skirts, wing mirrors, and M3 badging on the side moldings and trunk lid. CARFAX shows the vehicle to have had a minor collision with a fence in 2012, and the seller suspects some areas of the car to have been refinished as a result. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with the full CARFAX report. The original 17” BMW Style 39 wheels are currently mounted with Firestone tires.
The cabin is upholstered in black Nappa leather with matching door panels and carpeting featuring M3-logo floor mats. Standard features include power-adjustable and heated Sport Seats with M-stripes, dual-zone automatic climate control, an onboard computer, a Harmon-Kardon audio system, M3-logo door sills, and power windows, door locks, and mirrors. The leather-wrapped M Sport steering wheel sits ahead of a 160-MPH speedometer, an 8k-RPM tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, fuel economy, and coolant temperature. Some plastic trim pieces have begun to fade, the rear center seatbelt guide is cracked, and the stereo volume is said to be rather low. A new convertible top has been recently installed and the seller reports all gauges and accessories to be operational.
The E36 M3 is powered by an S52 3.2L inline-six engine which engine sends as much as 240 HP and 236 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. An oil and filter service was last carried out on 08/06/2021 at 129,083 miles.

@Selo Yes, mechanically turnkey. Our private collection has had it on two separate 4 hour road trips this year where the car performed without a hiccup. The original owner passed away and the maintenance records never made it over here from Seattle– I cannot comment on the condition of those items other than my personal opinion.
Is the car mechanically turnkey, or are there anticipated needs in the near future?
VANOS? Clutch? Worn suspension components?
