Available for auction is this 1998 Mercedes-Benz W202 C43 AMG finished in Black over a Black Nappa leather interior. The W202 C43 was produced between 1998 and 2000, featuring an AMG-tuned version of the M113 V8, a modified 5-speed automatic transmission, upgraded brakes, and suspension. Over its production run, 1,125 U.S. specification examples were built and only 579 for the 1998 model year. This example was reportedly sold new in Texas and has had five registered owners according to CARFAX. It features an AMG body kit, 17" Monoblock wheels, heated multicontour front seats, automatic climate control, and more. Having been recently serviced, this C43 is now being offered for auction showing just over 55k miles on the odometer.
This C43 comes finished in Black and features sporty AMG-specific bumpers and side skirts. Details include factory-smoked taillights, lower front fog lights, AMG-stamped chrome exhaust finishers, and a set of 17” AMG Monoblock wheels dressed in Continental ExtremeContact tires from 2021. The seller notes that the bumpers and hood were refinished for cosmetic purposes and that oxidation is present on the roof. The CARFAX indicates that minor damage occurred to the front driver side in 2020, additional images can be found in the gallery.
The cabin is upholstered in Black AMG-Exclusive Nappa leather which is accented by burl wood trim on the dashboard, center console, and door panels. Amenities include heated power-adjustable front seats, automatic climate control, a factory cassette stereo and CD changer, a C43 AMG embroidered floor mats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a suite of white-faced AMG instrumentation. A new headliner was recently installed and the seller confirms that all gauges, electronics, and accessories remain functional.
Power comes from an AMG-tuned version of the M113 4.3L V8 which produces up to 302 HP and 302 lb-ft of torque. The rear wheels are driven by way of AMG-modified 5-speed automatic transmission sourced from the R129 SL 500. The suspension of the C43 is slightly lowered compared to the standard C-class, and the brakes are borrowed from the W210 E55 AMG. The CARFAX includes 17 service history entries dating back as far as 2010, and recent service is said to include new OEM front and rear springs, rear shocks, steering damper, and front tie rods.
This sale will include the owner’s literature, service records, and a clean title.

@ish If you are going to speak of me please have your facts straight. That prior owner decided to negotiate a price that didn’t include the records or photos of the accident and so I get them and sold him only the car. There was no extra fee for them.

I noted in the MBMarket auction for this vehicle a few months ago that a prior owner did not pay a supposed extra fee for old records. Would you mind clearing this up - Do you have full records or is there any way that full records can be made available to a new buyer (even if through contact/purchase from a PO)?

I see in the BAT comments in 202 that driver's mirror horizontal adjustment and master key didn't work. Have these issues been rectified?

Hi. Thanks for your interest I do not have any pictures. It seems it was minor. The wipers on the headlights were an option and this car did not have that option.

@Harrdware yes, I am aware and huge fan of AMG! I also have a 2003 S55 as my daily driver. Amazing cars! They're really tanks! I wish I could keep this one but I have 4 V8 MB's!!
@aaron_comstock you are welcome. I discovered this info when researching the cars after the purchase of my own 1998 C43 in the same wonderful colors as yours. The W202 AMGs were milestone cars for AMG and especially Mercedes, being the first models planned from the start to be built and offered through the Mercedes-Benz dealer network, not as post-production tuner specials. Even more so than today, these early models were hand-built, with individual master techs assigned to each engine, it's just that Marketing hadn't thought up the signature badge yet. Imagine in 1998, strolling into a USA Mercedes dealership, and looking for a high-performance AMG model. This car...was it! The only AMG model that year. With all kinds of special touches to the entire vehicle. And only approx. 750 were sold in the USA that year! A humble beginning, surely. Only in 1999 was the AMG lineup expanded, with the arrival of the E55, and then the ML55 shortly after, growing into the 14+ model AMG lineup of today, with over 45,000 AMG models being sold per year.

A quick note to correct the description regarding 1998 C43 AMGs - the brakes Mercedes used were borrowed from the SL600, not the E55. The 1998 year C43 is interesting in that it was the first V8 AMG offered for sale in the USA under Mercedes ownership, and the only AMG available at all in the USA in 1998. The E55 was not offered in the US until 1999.
