A final-year air-cooled 911, this 1998 Porsche 993 Carrera 4 Cabriolet was custom ordered in the Paint to Sample color of Pearl White Metallic over a black full leather interior with exclusive carbon fiber trim pieces. The car was also optioned with the Motor Sound Package, 18” Technology wheels, Litronic headlamps, and a 6-speed manual transmission sending power to all four wheels. Acquired by an avid collector out of Scottsdale, Arizona in 2020, this outstanding 993 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York showing just over 40k miles showing on the odometer.

In contrast to the standard 993 Carrera, the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 model receives silver-painted brake calipers and matching lettering on the rear decklid. This example came factory finished in Pearl White Metallic, designated as a Paint to Sample option by custom color code “L999”.  Other equipment includes a power-operated black convertible top, Litronic xenon headlights, and optional lightweight 18” Technology hollow-spoke wheels borrowed from the 911 Turbo. The car rides on a set of Michelin tires from 2020 and is described to be in excellent overall condition, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin is appointed with black full leather upholstery including optional supple leather seats as well as a leather-trimmed dashboard and door panels. Optional carbon fiber trim pieces were selected as Exclusive factory options along with stainless-steel door entry guards and a carbon fiber steering wheel with a leather Airbag cover. The seller notes slightly sagging headliner near the rear passenger side and confirms all gauges and accessories are working properly. The factory specifications label under the bonnet shows the following original equipment codes:

  • XMC – Carbon Center Console Button Panel
  • XMD – Carbon Panel Under Handbrake Lever
  • XTA – Carbon Door Openers
  • X58 – Carbon Handbrake Lever
  • X57 – Carbon Door Panel Trim
  • X70 – Stainless Steel Door Entry Guards
  • X77 – Carbon Steering Wheel w/ Leather Airbag
  • 139 – Seat Heating, Left
  • 159 – Motor Sound Package
  • 226 – Internal Production Code
  • 329 – Porsche CR-210 Radio
  • 340 – Seat Heating, Right
  • 408 – 18” Technology Wheels (Hollow-Spoke)
  • 437 – 8-Way Electrical Seat, Left
  • 438 – 8-Way Electrical Seat, Right
  • 448 – Sports Brake Pads
  • 454 – Cruise Control
  • 490 – Sound System
  • 513 – Lumbar Support, Right Seat
  • 551 – Wind Deflector
  • 586 – Lumbar Support, Left Seat
  • 601 – Litronic Headlamps
  • 692 – 6-Disc CD Changer
  • 939 – Supple Leather Rear Seats
  • 981 – Leather Dashboard and Door Panels
  • 982 – Supple Leather Front Seats

An air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six engine provides up to 282 HP to all four wheels by way of a 6-speed manual transmission. The optional Motor Sound Package also provides a louder and more aggressive tone with a different airbox and mufflers from the factory. The seller states there are no outstanding service items, and the CARFAX report shows a history of service at Porsche of San Diego from 2004 up until 2011. The most recent service entry includes a maintenance inspection and wheel alignment completed at Prestige Audi of Colorado in 2016 at 38k miles.

The seller would like you to know: “This is hands down the sweetest 993 Cab I've come across, the combination of the PTS white over the black leather interior with carbon trim is an incredible spec. We have sold a handful of cars for this client and he is a dedicated collector, his cars are garage kept and driven very sporadically. We love working with the owner of this 993 and he is certainly the kind of owner you want to be buying a car from!”

@mr.rpm Thanks for this info! Great to hear that this paint has likely not been touched up in that case!

    Thanks,

  • mr.rpm (registered bidder) 1 year, 1 monthago

Higher paint meter readings are correct for factory PTS Pearl white from that era. This was a special mutli-layer paint process that was used in that time period by Porsche. I have read documentation from Porsche Classic regarding this and have seen 2-3 cars with this same color with similar readings that were confirmed as original factory paint.

@Valor1 It would be a safe to assume there has been paintwork considering the depth of the paint on the readouts.

We were also curious to know if PTS cars are given extra/thicker coats of paint compared to non PTS cars.

That being said, the paint shows INCREDIBLY well with no visible signs of paintwork.

    Thanks!

  • Valor1 (registered bidder) 1 year, 1 monthago

@HK_Motorcars the paint meter readings indicate paintwork? Would that be a fair assessment? If so, do you know what panels were painted and why? Thank you.

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 1 year, 1 monthago

@356rehab The paint is immaculate! We would give it a 9/10 considering that there are minor rock and bug chips on the lower front grille area.

We didn’t know about paintwork until we did the readouts, it really does present incredibly well and the metallic flake continues to pop!

    Thanks

  • 356rehab (registered bidder) 1 year, 1 monthago

@HK_Motorcars Can you comment on the condition of the paint…scale 1-10 ? Are there any nicks, scratches, dings or dents? Has there been any paint work?
    Thx in advance

@artichoke Good question, the current owner has only put 1,000~ miles on the car since he purchased it two-ish years ago.

From my test drive and from what we’ve seen, this car has been issue free. I have heard of carbon buildup issues before and believe that it is generally remedied with media blasting/walnut blasting, correct me if I’m wrong. No such history that we are aware of though.

  • HK_Motorcars (seller) 1 year, 1 monthago

@Porschephile58 Thank you very much for the history report on this car! We only knew about it post Arizona.

Thanks very much for the praise. It is a lovely piece!

  • artichoke (registered bidder) 1 year, 1 monthago

Hi, Beautiful car. Any history of check engine light issues? I have a 96 C4 Cab, and the 96-98 993’s are prone to problems with carbon build up in the vent tubes.

    Thanks!

@HK_Motorcars Nice! Can you please post paint meter readings from all the main panels. Thank you

I am familiar with this car. It was ordered new by a physician in San Diego. I believe the sticker was over $100k. He sold it to his son who relocated the car to Colorado. It popped up on Rennlist and it sold quickly at approximately $62K, (obviously a few years ago!) Then I saw it for sale at a high-end dealership in Scottsdale. I think the asking price was $129K. This car is a total unicorn; highly optioned, PTS color, and well-taken care of. I envy the new owner. GLWTS.

@Ram3k Great question, old carbon fiber does tend to delaminate so I was incredibly pleased when I saw the condition of the CF on this 993.

It is in PERFECT shape other than some hairline fractures on the steering wheel carbon, I assume because of sun exposure.

    Thanks,

Hi, sweet 993. Is all of the carbon fiber trim in good shape ? Some of the photos make it appear that there are scratches or imperfections. I’m sure it is all fine, but just wanted to confirm ? Thx, and GLWTA.
