We are pleased to present this 1998 Porsche 993 Carrera S finished Ocean Blue Metallic over a Cashmere Beige partial leather interior. Marking the final production year for the air-cooled 911, this 1998 Carrera S is among the most collectible vintage Porsche’s on the market.  The C2S is especially sought after for its low production numbers and combination of wide bodywork with rear-wheel-drive, naturally aspirated performance. This 1998 example was originally sold by Porsche of Eastchester, New York, and features a desirable factory limited-slip differential. It has recently undergone over $16k worth of service and upgrades including a refresh of the braking system, sway bars, belts, and fluids as well as the installation of a new Fister Stage 2 exhaust system, 18” Fuchs wheels, new speakers, and a Porsche Classic radio.  Accompanied by the factory Cup 2 wheels, original window sticker, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and an extensive collection of records dating back to new, this remarkable 1998 C2S is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Massachusetts with just over 20k miles showing on the odometer.

This Carrera S is finished in the rare factory color of Ocean Blue Metallic, a desirable shade introduced for the 993 generation.  The C2S is characterized by its wide Turbo-style bodywork and distinctive split-grille rear decklid.  The seller reports some light scuffs on the underside of the front bumper, additional photos are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings and a clean CARFAX report.  A rear wiper is equipped, and the optional Technic Package includes Litronic bi-xenon headlights with washers.  This 993 rides on a set of new 18” Fuchs wheels dressed in Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tires. The original 17” Cup 2 wheels will also be included with the sale.

The Cashmere Beige and black partial leather interior features a power-operated driver’s seat, cruise control, an electric sunroof, and a Carrera S logo central tachometer. A new aluminum shift knob has been recently installed along with an upgraded Porsche Classic radio and new speakers.  The seller confirms all gauges and accessories to be fully functional at this time.

This 993 is equipped with an air-cooled 3.6L flat-six Varioram engine capable of sending up to 282 HP to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission with an optional limited-slip differential.  A major service was carried out in 2020 by The Boston Sports Car Company at a cost of over $16k including new drive belts, filters, fluids, spark plugs, sway bar bushings and end links, and a refreshed braking system with all new pads, rotors, and hoses.  An upgraded Fister Stage 2 exhaust was also installed including a Sport Muffler with titanium finish and hardware.  An oil change was recently carried out in April of 2021 at 19,956 miles and corresponding invoices are provided for reference in the photo gallery.

This sale will include two sets of keys, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, the original window sticker, owner's manuals, the original 17” Cup 2 wheels, and a clean title.  Often regarded as the ultimate iteration of the air-cooled 911, this low-mile 993 C2S would make a fine selection for any discerning enthusiast.

@1985CCX You're right, I did some research and I see they were standard on the Carrera C2S in North America. The 18" Techno Wheel was an option on the Carrera S. My own C2S has these and they will stay on just like your original wheels will stay on yours.

FYI, my 1998 C2S currently with <17,000 miles also came with Cup 17"
They did come with Cup wheels... Probably a low option car like mine?
My car had sound pkg and brushed sill plates thus low optioned car.
All original with only tires and battery replaced, to which I kept the Cup wheels....

Seems the Ocean Blue Metallic color is pretty rare. I’ve seen it in person under direct sun and gives off either a purplish or greenish hue depending on the angle of which it’s viewed. It’s amazing!

This is a very special and sweet looking 993 S, it looks gorgeous. Hopefully one lucky buyer would be able to purchase and enjoy it for many years to come. I’m sure it would be a tough fight between bidders on the few last minutes of the auction. Good luck to all the bidders, you would need it. To all the spectators, have your popcorn ready.

Hi guys, its generally our policy to remove things like inspection stickers when a car is brought into inventory. It passed MA state inspection with flying colors and would do so anywhere. Adam

  • chrisg (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

    @Sunny
Picture #128 shows a $35 receipt for a Mass Inspection on 4/22/21. I don't see the sticker on the car though.

What a beautiful car and a great presentation thereof. Having owed a 78 SC and 2000 Boxster S I have had my share of issues with the Mass emission testing over the years. I did not see a Mass inspection sticker in any of the many pictures presented. I looked at the CARFAX and although the car has been registered in MA since February of 2020 the last emissions test noted was in NY prior to moving to Mass. I looked at the MA rules and it seems a car of this age is not subject to the tail pipe analysis it is subject to OB11 and visual requirements as well as the safety inspections required for all cars. I hope I am missing something please tell me what.

    8, 7.5, and a 7 = feather job.

    But where are the clowns
    Send in the clowns
    Don't bother, they're here

It would have been handy to keep the old exhaust but who cares. And the other needless nitpicking is silly. Too much service for the miles? How about an owner with a fat wallet that he opens gladly for a car he loves? A car so beautiful it makes my heartache. I already have four amazing 911's . No room.

  • Moonshot (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@copleymotorcars - You are correct on the paint meter readings holding a wider range. They didn't have the technology they do today. Additionally I just had my C2S completely sorted out and while we had panels off we confirmed originality and paint meter readings in the 8s as well...

  • copleymotorcars (seller) 2 years, 10 monthsago

There is much documented knowledge on 993 paint meter readings. Generally, 5ish to 7.5 ish will be considered original paint. In the absence of any physical evidence, as here, I think insinuating otherwise - even a "feather job" - is a stretch.

Please note the three-owner carfax is included in the gallery.

The original radio is included with the sale with the original/correct 17" Cup wheels. The shift knob and floor mats are not included.

    Thanks all,
    Adam Check / Copley Motorcars

@copleyadam I apologize if you feel like I compromised the integrity of this car. I meant nothing of the sort, just a little surprised at the personalizations to such a low mileage 993 that clearly is in short supply. I’m sure the next owner would love the original pieces. Regarding the 8, 7.5, and 7 it looks like a nice feather job and I’m sure as this auction gets closer to the end many will want more pics or an explanation. Reach out to your friend/client and see if he has the original pieces, it will result in a higher sale price IMO.

@Pump993 I have an all original 30k mile 993 S that came with the standard 17" cup 2 wheels, as described here. Sellers description is accurate.

  • copleyadam (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

Hi all, thank you for the early bids and (mostly) constructive comments. I will upload the carfax report showing unquestionable history in the coming days (it is saved as a pdf on my office machine).

With regards to the other questions, I'll answer below:

The car is as well serviced as any 24 year old car needs to be. I'm not sure how this could be construed in any other way than ultra positive.

The 17" Cup wheels are the correct factory wheels for the car (see CoA - no option code for the Technology wheels).

Air conditioning is 100% operational and working as designed.

With regards to the equipment on the car, it should be no surprise to any seasoned Porsche owner that these cars are occasionally lightly personalized. Such is the case here. If you don't agree with it, that is fine, but to insinuate that the integrity of the car is in any way compromised by something like - floor mats - is a bit silly.

We sourced this car for a very close friend/client about a year ago and his intent was to keep it forever, so dialed the car in exactly the way he wanted. I hope the new owner feels free to do the same.

Based on my extensive research and first hand experience metering dozens of 993s, paint meter readings up to approximately 8 mils are considered most likely original paint. There is zero evidence of any repainting on this car - no tape edges, no defects, no artifacts in the paint. It is exceptional.

If I can provide further detail on these or any other items please let me know. Thank you again to our bidders - it is a wonderful car and so well sorted.

@Narbeh well you know, other than that...?

  • Narbeh (registered bidder) 2 years, 10 monthsago

@Brunello clearly a fine example that’s modded with no original parts and has been painted?????

  • Brunello 2 years, 10 monthsago

When I saw this one pop up I was super excited to read the description of an all original low mile 993 C2S. I have a 21k 993 that is literally all original so wanted to compare. I must say this one is a head scratcher. After reading receipts I wondered why all the new stuff on such a low mile example? Where are the: original mats, shift knob, key fobs, instrument stickers, original radio and speakers, and mufflers? I love fister products but a 20k example the originals should be mint!! The last surprise was no mention of the 8.0 paint meter reading. That’s not Porsche original. Look forward to seller addressing. Clearly a fine example.

I agree with @Jstoll, can you please provide your reply regarding the Original wheels and CARFAX.
