The R1200C was BMWs interpretation of an American-style cruiser motorcycle, first introduced in 1997. It features an upright riding position with a three-position foldable backrest, and a 1170cc boxer-twin engine producing over 60 HP and 70 lb.-ft of torque. The R1200C was also featured in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies, ridden by Pierce Brosnan in a chase scene through the streets of Saigon, Vietnam.  This example is finished in Ivory with a dark blue saddle and is said to have been delivered new in Cambridge, Massachusetts before it was acquired from the second owner in 2011. It was relocated to Houston, Texas where it was stored in a climate-controlled garage, and in February of 2022 received a major service including a cleaning and reseal of the fuel tank and fuel system, a new fuel pump motor and filter, new fuel injectors, new spark plugs, a new battery, and fluid exchange of the engine oil, final drive oil, braking system, and hydraulic clutch. Showing just over 2k miles, this R1200C is now being offered at auction by its seller out of Texas.

This R1200C is finished in Ivory (732) with a dark blue seat and adjustable backrest. Details include chrome trim, chrome high-rise handlebars with rear-view mirrors, and a Telelever front end which connects a swingarm and monoshock to the frame and front fork, and a rear monoshock mounted to a single-sided Monolever swingarm that doubles as the enclosure for the driveshaft.  The 18” front and 15” rear triple spoke wheels wear Metzler recommended for replacement due to age.

The 1,170cc opposed twin was factory-rated at 61 HP and 72 lb.ft of torque, and features electronic fuel injection, oil-cooled cylinder heads, four valves per cylinder, and mid-cam valve actuation. Equipment includes electronic fuel injection, CDI ignition, an electric starter, and a polished dual exhaust with a crossover pipe. The rear wheel is driven by a five-speed transmission and a driveshaft enclosed within the Monolever swingarm. Stopping power is derived from dual Brembo discs up front and a single in the rear. In February of 2022, the fuel tank was cleaned and resealed, the fuel system was cleaned and received new injectors, and a  new fuel pump motor and filter were installed, as well as new spark plugs and a new battery, and the engine oil, brake fluid, final drive oil, and hydraulic clutch fluid have all been replaced.

This sale will include owner's manuals, a cover, and a clean title.

@Firewood I have just uploaded the most recent service record. Please note that I purchased new fuel injectors from the BMW dealer in Chicago and had them installed by Ace Motorworks.
Service rerecords and receipts from the previous owner are also included.
I have also uploaded a picture of the manual and two keys.

Hi. Very cool bike. Do you have service records/receipts for the work you've had done and that you refernce in the description? Will those records be included with the bike? Thanks and glwta.

@Mez Thank you for the comment. The bike is attention getter whether it is moving or stand-still. I had it parked with some of my car collection and got more attention than my cars.
There is a reserve on this bike.

  • Pump993 (seller) 1 year, 11 monthsago

@Roma Thank you for the comment. The bike was driven regularly for nine years after I purchased it from the second owner. It had no issues whatsoever. It rides and handles like a brand-new bike. During the nine years, I had oil change once a year by my mechanics (I own a pump manufacturing business and very qualified mechanics). The bike only sat for the last two years due a dead battery and not having the time to get the battery replaced. In addition to a new battery, I had new injectors installed and relined fuel tank in addition to other work as described above in the beginning of this posting. Please let me know should you have additional questions.

I own a 1998. Same color. I love the bike. When I am on it I cant count the people that stop me to ask about it. I am shocked at the fact that a bike as reliable as this and beautiful to boot is not seeing higher bids. The bike listed new between 13-14k subject to the ABS option. It is only cooler now than it was then. Good luck with the sale. Do you have a reserve where you wont sell it?

  • Roma (registered bidder) 1 year, 11 monthsago

I owned one for 13 years, same colour but with police handlebars and wire wheels. I covered ~40,000km before I sold it to go the BMW enduro route. It was a very reliable bike with only a few minor issues, easily resolved. Like all mechanical things they require regular scheduled maintenance. Would the Sellar plz comment on regular scheduled maintenance, i.e. did the bike sit for most of your 11 years of ownership but receive scheduled maintenance? THX

@marshgator Thank you for the comment. I really do not know how many were produced. I just loved the bike design, the boxer engine and its ArtDeco look.

  • Pump993 (seller) 1 year, 11 monthsago

@fwdodgers0630 Yes, the bike is equipped with ABS Brakes

  • marshgator 1 year, 11 monthsago

I've never seen one of these before? Seems Harley inspired. How many were produced? A real Classic. Like you, I'm into cars but I can see why you wanted this artsy cycle.

    Hi all
Thank you for looking at my listing.
Please let me know should you have any questions.
I am not a motorcycle collector; I collect Porsches and MB. I fell in love with this bike and color combination 11 years ago and could not resist the temptation.
I rode the bike about 300 miles during my ownership. With all of the cars I collect and having to spread my time between Chicago, Houston and Orange County California in addition to my age I could not make the time to enjoy this bike more. That is the reason for the sale.
@wingd, as listed in the description the bike was featured in one of James Bonds movies
@Neugie I see this bike a cross breed of BMW and Harley.

  • WNGD 1 year, 11 monthsago

I have been riding sport bikes and then cruisers most of my life but have never seen this model

  • Neugie (registered bidder) 1 year, 11 monthsago

    Unusual bike.
