Now available for auction is this 1999 BMW E36/7 M Roadster finished in Imola Red over a black and Imola Red Nappa leather interior. Introduced in 1998, the M Roadster was the high-performance version of the Z3 featuring the 3.2L S52 6-cylinder engine from the M3, unique styling, and a special M-tuned suspension. Sporting a very rare color combination, this 5-speed 1999 example has been upgraded with a Ground Control coilover suspension and recently serviced with a major subframe upgrade and new brakes. Showing approximately 84k miles on the odometer, this 1999 example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Texas.

This M Roadster is finished in Imola Red (405) with a black convertible soft top.  Some minor stone chips are noted on the front hood and detailed images are provided in the photo gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.  The M Roadster is based on the wide six-cylinder Z3 roadster body and features a more aggressive front fascia with brake cooling ducts in place of fog lights as well as unique side vents with M logos, aerodynamic wing mirrors, and a rear valance with quad exhaust tips. This example rides on factory forged Chromeline Style 40 wheels dressed in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires dated from 2016.

The cockpit features power-adjustable and heated sport seats which are upholstered in black Nappa leather with Imola Red accents along with the door panels, dashboard, and center console. Factory amenities include air conditioning, cruise control, and power windows, door locks, and mirrors. Model-specific “M Roadster” door sills line the entrances to the cabin.  A two-tone M-Sport perforated leather steering wheel sits ahead of VDO instrumentation including a 160 MPH “M-Roadster” speedometer and an 8k-RPM tachometer, as well as gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. Chrome-trimmed auxiliary gauges in the center stack show battery voltage and oil pressure, along with an analog clock. The seller has replaced the original BMW radio with a Clarion aftermarket Bluetooth-enabled head unit. All gauges and accessories are said to be working properly.

This E36/7 M Roadster is powered by a 3.2L inline-six engine derived from E36 M3, which was factory rated at 240 HP and 236 lb.-ft of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a 5-speed ZF manual transmission and factory limited-slip differential. The seller states that the rear subframe was professionally upgraded by Vorschlag Motorsports and reports that the brakes were just recently replaced at 77k miles.  A Mason Engineering front strut brace has been added and a Ground Control full coilover suspension has also been installed at a cost of over $1,800.  This M Roadster is reported to be up to date on all routine maintenance, and some service records are said to accompany the sale.

This sale will include a set of two keys and remote fobs, original owner's manuals, a toolkit, air compressor, and a clean title. Increasingly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts, the M Roadster has become a true modern classic. Do not miss your chance to own this well-presented 1999 example in Imola Red.

@darshansolo - Sure, no problem. The car has been well taken care of and well maintained; always covered with a Covercraft Flannel cover and garaged. The paint is in well above average condition. There are some rock chips on front and hood of the car that are commensurate with normal wear over the course of an 80k miles, but the rest of the paint is excellent. There is no sun damage, no fading, no swirls and no clear coat peeling. Thanks for your question.

@Sundaymotorco - Thanks very much. She gets compliments everywhere we go. I just sent photos of driver's seat bolster to PCAR. They are uploading now.

Hi, could you give us some info on the condition of the paint? Any chips, scratches, or swirling?

  • Sundaymotorco (registered bidder) 2 years, 8 monthsago

Hello! Beautiful car. Is there any way we can see the entire driver’s seat bolster?

Earlier today, a bidder requested info on the sub-frame work. I just sent a copy of the receipt (4 pages) for the subframe repair as well as pictures of the work to PCARMARKET and asked them to upload them to the auction site. The sub-frame work was professionally completed by Vorshlag Motorsports in Plano, Texas. In addition to the subframe work, they installed a complete set of Powerflex bushings and performed a complete brake job to include new rotors. All work was completed approximately 7,000 miles ago. Thank you for your interest in my car and please let me know if you have any other questions.
